Chapter 21 - 21. Training

After walking around for a bit over 7 minutes I hide behind a tree. Around 7 meters in front of me there is a rabbit. I lock my eyes on it and form an ice spike. After a bit over a second it formed. I will the spike forward and it slices through the air. At the sound of its approach the rabbit looks up. Before it can even try to run, the spike embeds itself into the rabbit's head.

The rabbit's body goes limp instantly and it falls to the ground. I walk over and pick it up. I go around and kill another rabbit and a fox. The fox is small and it also has a white coat. Although it's small it's around 3 times the size of the rabbit. Which makes it not very small.

With food secured I go back to my home and store the corpses nearby. I swing my spear around a bit to get used to it. Slashing certainly isn't something spears are great at. However you can still do it to inflict a good amount of damage. A problem with the spear is the fact that when stabbing something you need to pull the spear back afterwards before attacking again.

That makes it hard to fight multiple opponents at once if they all attack together. Of course, simply swinging the spear will solve that problem. Constantly backing up to keep distance is good.

'Using a spear isn't that difficult. I'm sure there are many things I need to learn though. For now, my goal is to simply get used to swinging and stabbing. I need to figure out a proper stance as well.'

At first I was simply doing normal stabs and swings. After a couple minutes I started incorporating spins, jumps, and other things. Not because they were practical, but simply because it was fun. I end up imagining myself fighting wolves, bears, tigers, and other things. I roll, sidestep, spin my spear around, and much more.

After about an hour of doing this non-stop I fall onto the snow with heavy breaths. I'm sweating and my body feels rather hot. To fix this I invite some of the Lower Winter Sprites into my body which quickly cools my body down. I sigh in content as I lay there with my eyes closer for a couple minutes.

I open my eyes and stand up. I pass my spear hand to hand for a couple seconds before holding it firmly in my right hand. I look at a tree and bring the spear over my head. I twist my body a bit and bring my arm back before launching the spear at the tree. Unfortunately the spear only made it a bit over 4 meters before falling to the ground. The tree is 9 meters away. I look at the spear while contemplating.

'Well, it seems I'm not strong enough to throw the spear very far. Perhaps I can change how I throw it so it can go farther as well. I know I'm not weak, but I feel like I'm not strong. Considering the spear weighs around 6 pounds I'm not sure how good that is. Should be enough to to deal a good amount of damage. Assuming the target isn't a bear.'

At this point I'm getting concerned about my strength. Weapons can help make up for my lack of strength, but being stronger will make me feel more secure. The only problem is that there is no way to increase my strength in a short amount of time. Well, there are ways, but those ways require certain herbs and other things.

Now that I think about it, eating the meat of certain animals can increase strength. Only problem is that the animal needs to be strong. Like a bear. Are there Leopards in this forest?'

The Lower Winter Sprites give me confirmation that there are Leopards in this forest. Not that I've seen any. Well I'm getting off track. Forgetting about getting stronger right now. Throwing probably won't help very much when fighting the bear. Unless I use something like a small throwing knife.

Either way something I want to focus more on is walking on the snow. If I can somehow manage to not sink into the snow when walking or moving, I'll be able to move faster and use less energy. So what I'm going to do for the next week is simple. hunt, eat, sleep, train with my spear, improve my walking ability, and that's it for now.

I pick my spear up and begin training with it again. After around 2 hours and training with a bit of rest I'm exhausted. At first my body just felt tired, but after laying down inside my home turned into a piece of bread. I basically can't move because of how much I trained.

I close my eyes and as a result I end up going to sleep. I wake up around 3 hours later with a grumbling stomach. I go out on shaky legs and skin the animals I caught earlier. I store the hide elsewhere before eating the meat. The bones I clean a bit before placing them with the bones of the elk I have. I need to use all these bones and horns.

After eating my fill with a minimal amount of blood splattering I turn my attention to other things. I don't want to push my body too hard or I won't be able to defend myself when I need to. Now I decide iIt's time to do what I want with the bones. After cleaning them of course. When entails a journey back to the river.

So I can carry all the bones. I form a bag of ice with some straps. I put all the bones and fur into it before putting it on. Only to find that it's very uncomfortable a couple minutes into the walk. So I end up forming snow around the straps for cushion. Due to magic the snow doesn't fall off. After a bit over an hour and 15 minutes I reach the river.
