Now that it was the morning, and we were able to head home and relax, I wanted nothing more than to see Jared. I wanted to be with him, to know that he was safe, and to hold him in my arms. I needed to reassure myself that he was still there, that this hadn't all been some sort of nightmare that lasted far too long.
Not only did I need to have him with me because I wanted to reassure myself, but I also wanted to be there to let him know that he had nothing else to fear, that he was safe now, and that he could return to the campus without worry. He was no longer in any danger.
Of course, now that the campus was safe for him again, that meant that he was going to go back to his dorm room. And that was heartbreaking. He had basically been living with me since the incident, and now that it was all over, he wouldn't need me there to protect him anymore. He would be able to do what he wanted, when he wanted, and he didn't have to worry about coming home to me anymore.
