The bright sky was suddenly engulf in darkness as people ran into their homes because of the darkness. Some people.who were selling suddenly locked themselves inside their shops to avoid the dangers of the night. A land filled with vampires and humans living together wasn't a good one at all.
It was ruled by a vampire king who made a law for every humans living in the land of valtenia. The vampire king had laid rule for every humans not to be seen outside their houses once the sun is gone. It's a crucial time for vampires to have the freedom to do as they please till dawn. The reason being is that, they are still looking for a way to let vampires walk in the sun so they could blend with the humans.
As the humans locked themselves inside their houses, they could hear growls and snarling outside.
In a small apartment,
Evelyn was peeping through the window, her black silky hair dancing softly with the breeze, watching how vampires leaped and growl. But what she couldn't see was their fangs and their red eyes due to the darkness.
"Evelyn , what are you doing ?!" A stern cold voice called out. It was her father. He was gazing at her with cold eyes.
Evelyn jolted out in fear, her heart almost jumped out of her chest.
She gulped hard before exhaling softly.
D-dad? She muttered.
This will be the first and the last time you look outside at night. Don't you know it's dangerous? Why are you trying to risk your life and that of our family? He said in a bit cold tone so as not too attract the vampires.
"I'm sorry papa." She said bowing her head. She couldn't count how many times her parents have warned her not to look at vampires at night. They are deadly creatures, they drink blood, snap neck and kill merciless and their main meal is humans. They believe that humans have a unique taste of blood. Just a taste of a human blood, they go craving for it as they drink and suck the blood of the humans dry till their death.
You are no more a child that needs to be cautioned. The next time I see you watching vampires at night again, I won't hesitate to hand you over to the king. Her father threatened coldly before stomping out of the living room.
Tch. A female voice spoke it was Lila, Evelyn's sister. Lila had a brown hair with a sapphire blue eyes. Unlike her sister who has black eyes and black silky hair that reached her back.
Evelyn turned to look at her sister.
Did you just arrive? She asked.
Lila rolled her eyes. You shouldn't get mum and dad pissed. She said calmly.
What do you mean? Evelyn asked confused and a raised eye brow at her sister question.
What I mean is stop doing something that will make mum and dad angry. Lila said coldly.
Are you still upset with me? Evelyn asked carefully. She remembered last night when their parents didn't come home on time, Lila had snuck out of the house late at night and was almost bitten by a vampire.
When their parents had come back in the morning, She has told her parents what nearly happened to her sister and because of that, Mr Fraser had banned Lila from stepping out of the house an hour before the cloak hit night. This got Lila angry and pissed to the extent she decided to teach Evelyn a lesson.
I'm glad you remembered. Well, I forgive you. Lila said and Evelyn smiled.
Thank you sis. Evelyn thanked her.
Lila rolled her eyes. Well, I have something to show you. Lila said and Evelyn's eyes sparked.
What is it you want to show me? She asked smiling and happy that her sister was no longer angry with her.
"Come with me!" Lila said and walked past Evelyn to their room while Evelyn followed behind her. The two girls entered the room and Lila locked the door.
Before I show you the thing, promise me you won't tell dad? Lila said stretching her pinky finger.
Evelyn nodded.
No, say it with your mouth and promise me. Lila said with a probing gaze.
"I promise you Lila, I won't tell mum and dad". Evelyn said entwining her pinky finger with her sister's own.
Lila smiled and bent down to pick a wooden box from under the bed.
She stood up and show the wooden box to Evelyn.
What's this? Evelyn asked as she gaze were on the wooden box.
"Shh!" Lila said and slowly placed the box on the bed.
"What's..."
"Shh!" Lila cut her off.
She opened the box slowly and carefully and a snake like head came out. Evelyn eyes almost bulge out of their sockets as she almost screamed from horror but Lila was quick to cover her mouth.
Evelyn don't make noise. You will alert mum and dad. Lila said frustratedly.
She slowly let go of Evelyn as Evelyn eyes fell on the snake.
The snake began to slid out of the box and crawled on the bed moving in slow motion.
"Where did....." Evelyn paused trying to calm her nerves and her heart that was pounding violently in her chest.
Lila patiently waited for her naive sister calm down before she start talking,
"Well, last night when I was almost bitten by a vampire , I saw this snake on the floor at the entrance of our house, so I decided to take it and shelter it. "
What? You want to shelter a snake? What if it bite us? What are we going to do then? Evelyn asked confused and at the same time suspicious of Lila. Why will she bring a snake home? She thought.
Nothing will happen as far as I kept the snake inside the wooden box. Lila reasoned. She doesn't seem to understand her sister. Sometimes her sister acts foolish and at the same time naive.
Nope, you won't keep this snake and that's final. Evelyn said in a serious tone.
I will keep it and there is nothing you will do about it. Lila said coldly and walked towards the bed post and carried the snake and put it back inside the wooden box. After putting it, she carried the wooden box and left the room.
