Su Jiyai gave Mei a dry look. "Dream on."
Mei huffed but didn't argue back this time. Probably knew she wasn't gonna win.
The little wolf cub tugged at Su Jiyai's cloak again, looking all anxious. "Hurry, hurry!" it whined.
Su Jiyai sighed. "Yeah, yeah, I'm coming."
She followed the cub deeper into the cave. The further in they went, the colder it got. The crystals inlaid in the walls were more prominent and bigger.
Even without touching them, Su Jiyai could feel the strong energy contained within them.
After walking for a bit, Su Jiyai noticed a weird smell, kinda like old blood mixed with something rotten. The little cub whimpered.
They turned a corner, and there—
Su Jiyai stopped.
A giant wolf lay on the ground, its black fur all matted and dull. It was bigger than the others, way bigger.
Probably the pack leader. But its breathing was slow, and its sides barely moved.
The other Darkfang Wolves stood around it, their red eyes sad and worried.
