Once he dropped Ray off at home and found out what Isa wanted from the store, Arthur met Edgar back at the park.
Edgar was sitting on a bench and reading a newspaper when he arrived. "Did you run into trouble on your way out?"
"Not too much," Arthur replied. "I had to drop Ray off at home first."
"Your son?"
Arthur nodded. "I don't want him to get mixed up in this."
The puppy barked at a bird who flew by.
Ed smiled and petted it.
Arthur sat down next to Edgar and let out a slow breath, watching the puppy settle down at his feet. The little thing sniffed at the ground, its tail wagging lazily as it lost interest in the bird.
"I get it," Edgar said, folding the newspaper and setting it aside. "He's young. You want to protect him."
Arthur nodded, rubbing his hands together. "He's been through enough already. I don't want him tangled in things he doesn't need to be."
Edgar smiled. "I can respect that." He set his newspaper aside. "What kind of work are you willing to do?"
