Chapter One
As Sofia Hamilton's eyes curved with a light and carefree smile on her face, Ryan Gregory couldn't help but tug the corners of his mouth into a faint smile as well.
The atmosphere instantly softened, shedding its tension and restraint.
But in the next second, she came to her senses—what connected them now was nothing more than the most ordinary relationship.
Not even close friends, perhaps.
Yet his actions and tone just now had been intimate, like that of lovers.
As if nothing had ever happened between them, as if they were merely a couple making up after a fleeting argument.
Sofia awkwardly chuckled, rubbing her temple with slight unease. "Really, it's nothing."
Ryan's smile gradually faded, his tone calm. "Good, as long as it's nothing."
With that, he started the engine.
The car smoothly merged into traffic, and neither spoke much on the way.
Occasionally, there'd be a brief exchange—a question, an answer—then silence once more.
