The father and son really did speak in the same way.
Amanda Smith watched Donald Johnson hold Lily Smith in his arms, playing with her, and it was clear he was very fond of his only granddaughter.
And with the head of the Johnson family's affection, Lily Smith would surely have a smooth sailing life there.
"Lily likes to buy her own things," she explained.
"So Lily is quite independent," Donald Johnson said looking at Lily Smith, his face full of affection. "Come on, tell Grandpa what else Lily likes. This afternoon, Grandpa will take you to the mall, okay? Just say whatever you like!"
Along with Donald Johnson's words was the tinkling laughter of Lily Smith, "Grandpa, can Lily have anything she wants?"
Amanda Smith, fearing Lily Smith would say something outrageous, hastily tried to pick her up, but it was too late. Amid Lily Smith's giggling laughter, she clung to Donald Johnson's neck and declared loudly, "Lily wants that building. Can Grandpa give it to Lily?"
