In the restaurant downstairs, one could encounter many family members of patients buying food for their loved ones. Some faces were brimming with smiles while others were clouded with worry. Amanda Smith didn't know why she felt compelled to observe their expressions, but she felt an unprecedented sense of well-being.
It was as though she had come back to life.
She deliberately ordered a little extra food, packed it up, and then returned to the hospital. By the time she walked in, Lily Smith had already woken up and was in the bathroom brushing her teeth and washing her face.
"Lily, it's time to eat," she called out.
Lily sweetly responded, "I'll be right there!"
That morning, the mother and daughter devoured the food meant for three. After Lily finished the last bowl of porridge, she wistfully licked the bottom of the bowl and remarked with deep emotion, "Mommy, Lily feels like she's come back to life."
