In a luxurious and well-kept room—a rare sight in the Sendai Colony, which had been devastated by battles—Maki sat silently in an armchair, watching the peaceful Itadori in deep sleep.
Lying on a large bed in the center of the room, Itadori's body was wrapped in bandages, some of them still stained with fresh blood, indicating how recent his injuries were. His breathing was soft, his sleep clearly pleasant.
Maki sighed and ran a hand over her face in mild frustration.
After having his wounds treated and his body bandaged, Itadori had fallen into a peaceful sleep, completely unconcerned about his situation. Maki felt satisfied knowing he trusted her that much, but it still annoyed her that he could sleep so carelessly.
Especially when there was a stranger around them...
"So this is what this generation considers fun these days?" With a portable console in hand, Uro floated near the balcony of the room, looking bored. "What a drag!"
Maki narrowed her eyes at the woman. Takako Uro, a reincarnated sorcerer. Someone Itadori seemed to have formed some sort of friendship with—enough that she hadn't opposed helping him upon seeing his wounded state.
With her help, Maki had treated Yuji's injuries and bandaged him.
Yet, a strange feeling prickled at the back of her neck. Looking at this woman, who exuded an odd sort of charm through her peculiar appearance, Maki felt… threatened.
But not in a literal sense—she doubted Uro had any hostile intentions toward them.
Perhaps it was just a lack of trust. After all, Uro was a reincarnated sorcerer, so it wouldn't be strange to think she was simply taking advantage of the situation to deceive them and steal their points… Or maybe Maki was just trying to find a simple explanation for this feeling.
Either way, Uro was an enigma to her. So, even if she seemed friendly, Maki wasn't comfortable leaving Itadori alone with her...
"I'm going to grab something to eat..." But as if sensing the gaze fixed on the back of her head, Uro turned slightly to glance at Maki. "Do you want anything, girl?"
"I'm fine." Unintimidated by the eye contact, Maki replied indifferently, watching as Uro floated out of the room through the balcony. "But thanks..."
"..."
With the ancient sorcerer disappearing outside, silence settled over the room, broken only by the soft breathing of a sleeping Itadori. Maki turned toward him with an indifferent expression.
Her gaze wandered over his peaceful face, and she couldn't stop the small smile that crept onto her lips.
"I still haven't thanked him…" she murmured, her mind drifting to her conversation with her mother.
Itadori had, without a doubt, been the catalyst that allowed her to have a proper talk with the woman she had misjudged for so many years… Maki hadn't completely forgiven Mio yet, but thanks to Yuji, she had begun the process.
Her mother's embrace… Maki hadn't realized how much she missed it until she received it once again after so long.
She was grateful.
Thanks to Itadori, she wasn't just free from the chains of the Zenin Clan—she had also received a gift: the ability to become the person she had trained so hard to be.
Freed from her mediocre fate, with her sister and mother by her side, and a powerful body… At this moment, Maki truly felt blessed.
And it was all thanks to him.
The one who made her heart flutter and her stomach fill with butterflies. The focus of her feelings and gratitude.
Yuji Itadori.
A boy who had appeared out of nowhere, someone she initially thought was just a poor soul destined for execution for being in the wrong place at the wrong time…
But he had proven to be much more than that—a rough diamond with a talent that rivaled the strongest sorcerers.
The only one to steal her heart… No matter how cliché that sounded.
At first, she thought it was just a fleeting crush, but over time—with their training together, their brief conversations, and his actions that had changed her life so much—Maki found herself unable to deny her feelings.
She really liked Yuji, and… it felt right.
Standing up from the armchair, she moved silently toward the bed, her gaze resting on the sleeping boy's face.
But despite that, she couldn't ignore how strange this situation was. She clearly remembered Yuji's words, having taken time to think about them on her way to the colonies.
And no matter how much she tried to find a different answer, her thoughts always led her to one single conclusion...
That guy wanted both Zenin sisters for himself!
For her, who had come from a traditional clan, this wasn't entirely uncommon. It was quite normal for high-ranking members to have wives and mistresses… In fact, Maki had been surprised to learn that she and Mai were the only children of Ogi Zenin.
But even if this wasn't completely foreign to her, it was still a bit unsettling to imagine herself in such a relationship… Itadori had said he liked both her and her sister, which had made her momentarily happy. She wouldn't deny that.
"..."
Calmly resting her hand on the bed, Maki let her body lower slowly, closing the distance between their faces until she stopped at a safe range from the sleeping Itadori, her lips pressing together as she seemed undecided about what to do.
But still, was it really that hard to choose just one of them? Maki loved Mai and wanted the best for her sister, but she'd be lying if she said she could easily set these feelings aside.
She was a girl, after all!
Moistening her dry lips with a hint of nervousness in her eyes, Maki moved her hand toward Yuji's face, her fingers brushing softly against his skin.
The idea of sharing a man with her sister was strange—even absurd—but… she wanted to at least try. And if it didn't work out, she wouldn't have any regrets about not trying.
A sorcerer, with their short life expectancy, was advised against falling in love, knowing they could die at any moment… But Maki wanted to experience this feeling. After all, in their situation, death could indeed come at any time.
"..."
With a nervous breath and flushed cheeks—a rare sight for someone with Maki's personality—she closed her eyes and pursed her lips slightly, leaning in closer to Itadori.
"..."
But as the inexperienced Maki approached to give her first kiss, Itadori, who had been peacefully asleep until moments ago, watched her approach in silence, his face devoid of emotion as he processed what was happening.
'This… again?' He resisted the urge to sigh, his gaze settling on Maki's lips as they neared his. 'Harassing someone while they sleep… Is this a sister thing?'
Blinking as he felt his body heat up at the sight of a nervous Maki, Itadori allowed a small smile to form. 'But I can't say I dislike the initiative.'
Seeing her take the lead was a great green light for him, so at this moment, he felt quite satisfied. If she was the one making a move, then that meant he had every right to return the favor, didn't it?
As her lips drew closer, Itadori prepared himself, his eyes shifting to the ceiling as he gave a quick thanks.
If Maki wanted a kiss, he would make sure to give her an unforgettable experience.
