The dry rasp of scales sliding across the stone announced the Basilisk's awakening, and a second later a pair of glowing yellow eyes with slitted pupils appeared floating within the dark shadows of the cave. The ocular orbs were the size of beach balls alluding to the true size of the full creature.
The moment the Basilisk opened its eyes Ron and Harry flinched tearing their gazes away and clenching their eyes shut. But Thane didn't move a muscle instead meeting the ancient serpent's gaze as his own eyes gained reptilian slits.
A deep rumbling hiss echoed through the Chamber as the Basilisk sensed the arrogance and challenge in Thane's eyes. For as long as the creature could remember no being had willingly met its gaze and survive. Thane felt the Basilisk's aura flare and a second later its yellow eyes shone.
Thane's entire body stiffened as he felt the serpent's magic penetrate through his very being to aim directly at his soul.
"AHAHA, you arrogant fool!" Voldemort cackled as Thane stared into the eyes of a monster famous for its ability to kill with only a glance, "For a moment I believed you may have been a true threat to my plans. But you've signed your own death warrant!"
"T-Thane w-what's h-he talking about?" Ron stammered his eyes still sealed shut as panic quickly seeped into his voice, "Y-you looked away r-right?"
"Thane, what's going on? Talk to us!" Harry pleaded still blinded as well though he seemed seconds away from opening his eyes to check on the state of his unlikely ally.
Voldemort grinned his features contouring inhumanly, "I'm afraid your friend, is no longer with us. Now to deal with the two of you!!"
"W-what do you have against us?!" Ron asked trying to keep the tremble out of his speech.
"I couldn't care less about you, but Potter on the other hand...he and I have a score to settle," Voldemort hissed his voice growing crueler by the second, "Imagine my surprise to find that my glorious and rightful reign was brought to an unjust end, by a mere babe. Oh how badly I wanted to possess that useless girl and compel her to drive a dagger between your ribs. Unfortunately, she worships you Potter, and forcing her to raise a hand against you would have undone all my hard work slowly corrupting her soul for her to do my bidding!"
"Don't you talk about my little sister!" Ron roared as he reached into his robes and pulled out his wand pointing it blindly in the direction of Voldemort's voice, "I don't care if you're a dark lord I'll kill you all over again if you even think about touching a hair on my sister's head!"
Voldemort grinned as he listened to Ron's blind bravado, "I'm afraid you're a little late for that, I had to take a significant amount of your sister's soul in order to create this vessel. Even If she somehow manages to survive, she'll most likely be in a coma for the rest of her life."
All the color drained from Ron's face and his wand trembled in his grasp, "W-what?"
"Don't believe him Ron he's just trying to demoralize us so we don't fight back!" Harry called out.
"Fight back? FIGHT BACK?!" Voldemort broke out into a wild bout of laughter, "There is nothing the two of you can possibly accomplish that could ever defeat me! Now enough of this foolishness, prepare to meet your end at the jaws of my-"
Before Voldemort could finish his sentence a roar of pain echoed through the air as the glowing eyes staring out from the cave burst like grapes with fountains of blood.
The chamber shook as the basilisk thrashed around in its cave suddenly blinded, an outcome it couldn't even fathom ever occurring.
Voldemort spun to stare into the cave with wide eyes, "No!!! What is this?! How is this happening?!"
Before anyone could react Thane who had been stood still as a statue dashed forward reaching Ginny's still form in an instant. Thane then retreated just as quickly returning to his previous position, "Harry, Ron you can open your eyes now."
After a moment's hesitation, the two opened their eyes and found Thane kneeling next to Ginny his hand placed in the middle of her chest.
"Ginny!!" Ron exclaimed and shot over to his sister's side grabbing her hand and pressing it to his lips, "Come on Ginny you got to wake up! If you don't Mom will never let me hear the end of it!"
Thane frowned pulling his hand off Ginny's chest and reaching into his robe to pull out a small vial filled with a neon-green liquid, "Open her mouth."
Ron looked from his sister to Thane to the green potion in his hand, "W-what's that?"
"The only chance your sister has to wake up again," Thane replied sternly, "She's been possessed for so long that her soul core is having trouble remembering the imprint of her horizon. Without that, any healing magic won't be of any use. So open her mouth!"
Ron flinched at Thane's order but quickly moved to follow directions opening his sister's mouth and tilting back her head to open her throat.
Thane quickly uncorked the bottle unleashing a heavy medicinal scent but only for a split second before pouring the contents of the vial into Ginny's mouth.
Thane then massaged her neck making her swallow before quickly standing back up, "It's time for both of you to go."
"B-but she's not waking up!" Ron exclaimed staring at Ginny's lifeless face, "I-I thought you said that potion would heal her!?"
"The potion will shock her soul back into functioning, but it's still very weak. I'll need to heal her afterward," Thane replied curtly before his gaze turned almost hostile, "Now you must leave."
Ron opened his mouth to refuse only for Harry to put a hand on his shoulder, "Come on Ron, let's get Ginny to safety."
Ron shut his mouth after a second before rising to his feet with Ginny in his arms, "You better not die before you can heal her."
Thane stared at Ron for a moment before turning away, "That is the first and last time you make demands of me Weasley, but very well you have my word."
Ron nodded once before turning around and heading for the tunnel with Harry leading the way.
"NOO!!!" Voldemort roared as he reached into his robes and pulled out a wand, "None of you shall escape my wrath!"
Voldemort thrust his wand forward sending out a bolt of red lightning aiming for Harry and Ron's fleeing forms. Faster than the eye could track Thane appeared in the lightning bolt path and with a swipe of his staff he deflected the spell to the ground.
Voldermort scowled as he stared at Thane, "YOU!"
"I," Thane answered with a grin.
"How did you survive?!" Voldemort demanded with bulging eyes.
"And why would you ever believe I would answer such a question?" Thane replied with a chuckle as he started to lazily spin his staff, "Now enough conversation, call on your pet. I've been looking forward to a worthwhile challenge!"
Voldemort's eyes were nearly out of their sockets and his chest heaved with ragged heavy breaths, "Very well then, I can't wait to see you get eaten alive!"
The moment Voldemort finished his sentence the Basilisk surged forth finally revealing itself in all of its horrific glory.
Covered in dark thick moldy green scales the basilisk was easily over thirty feet in diameter, with a long muscular body capable of propelling its massive bulk at blinding speeds.
It's horned face featured two ruined eyes now sealed shit with dried blood, a pair of nostrils, and a frill of spikes that lay flattened around its neck.
Despite its lack of vision the Basilisk seemed to have no problems spotting Thane and it rosed its upper half into the air towering over the relatively tiny human before opening its massive jaws to hiss revealing its forked tongue and two gleaming fangs.
Staring at the fearsome visage, Thane's heart pounded and his fists clenched tight around his staff, 'Finally!'
