Chapter 198 - Chapter 198: Second Date with Akeno

The afternoon sun hung high in the sky, casting warm golden rays over the bustling city below. Akeno had insisted on meeting in town, claiming it would be "a more fun experience" than staying within the confines of the Underworld.

I had no objections. Honestly, I was curious to see how a date with Akeno would unfold.

I found myself waiting outside a charming café at the edge of the city, a cozy spot she had suggested. It was the kind of place you could easily overlook—small tables scattered beneath the shade of flowering trees, with soft music playing in the background. It was peaceful, a nice change from the usual intensity of my daily life.

As I checked the time, I heard a soft voice from behind me. "Alex-kun, you're not the type to keep a girl waiting, are you?"

I turned around, and there she was. Akeno walked towards me with an elegance that seemed almost supernatural. She wore a simple, yet beautiful, summer dress that hugged her form in all the right places, the fabric swaying slightly in the breeze. Her long, dark hair cascaded down her back, and that familiar teasing smile was already in place.

"Of course not," I said, smirking. "I just got here."

Akeno raised an eyebrow, clearly amused but not entirely convinced. "Mm-hmm. I believe you." She stepped closer, her presence immediately commanding attention, even in this laid-back setting. "Shall we?"

We sat at one of the outdoor tables, and a waiter quickly came over to take our order. Akeno opted for tea, unsurprisingly, while I ordered a coffee. As we waited, I couldn't help but admire how effortlessly she seemed to fit in here. She always had this uncanny ability to blend her more playful side with a composed grace that made her intriguing.

"So," Akeno began, leaning forward with her chin resting on her hand, "I have to admit, Alex-kun, I'm surprised you agreed to this date so easily. I thought Serafall would have kept you busy."

I chuckled. "Serafall's not the jealous type. Well, not too jealous, anyway. She knows I keep my promises."

Akeno's smile widened. "And what promises are those?"

"That I'd take you out today, for starters," I replied smoothly. "Though I'm still not entirely sure what you have planned."

Her eyes sparkled with amusement. "Oh, Alex-kun, the fun of a date is in the surprises. Just trust me."

I wasn't sure if I should be worried or excited by that. Knowing Akeno, it could go either way. But before I could dwell on it too much, our drinks arrived, and we settled into easy conversation.

Despite Akeno's usual playful attitude, our conversation felt natural, relaxed even. We talked about everything from her duties as Rias's Queen to her fascination with human culture. I found myself genuinely enjoying the banter, her sharp wit always keeping me on my toes.

After we finished our drinks, Akeno stood up with a mischievous glint in her eye. "Come on, there's something I want to show you."

Curious, I followed her as we walked through the streets. She led me through a park, where families were out enjoying the warm afternoon, and eventually, we reached the edge of a lake. The water sparkled under the sunlight, casting a serene atmosphere around us. A small rowboat was docked at the shore, and it didn't take long to figure out what she had in mind.

"Really?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

Akeno just smiled, already stepping into the boat with a grace that seemed effortless. "Of course. I thought it would be fun. Unless you're afraid of getting wet, Alex-kun?"

I chuckled and followed her into the boat. "You're really going all out for this, huh?"

She shrugged, still smiling. "Well, it's not every day I get to go on a date with someone like you. Might as well make it memorable."

As I rowed us out onto the lake, Akeno leaned back, letting her fingers trail in the cool water. She looked so peaceful, and for a moment, I wondered if she was enjoying this as much as I was.

"You know, Alex-kun," Akeno said after a while, her voice softer now, "I don't usually do this."

I glanced at her, curious. "Do what?"

"This." She gestured around us, her eyes fixed on the rippling water. "Go out of my way for a date. I like to tease and flirt, but actually... spending time like this with someone? It's different."

I paused, the rhythm of rowing slowing down. "You mean you're not just doing this to get under Serafall's skin?"

I teased, though I knew there was more to it.

Akeno liked to put on a playful front, but I had a feeling today was different. She'd chosen a quiet, intimate café for a reason, and I could tell she wanted a more normal, human-like date. Something outside the chaos of our usual lives.

She let out a soft laugh. "No, not this time. Though that would've been a nice bonus." And tugged some of her long beautiful hair behind her ears.

Her playful tone didn't surprise me, but the way she looked in that moment—calm, almost serene—did something to me. That small, genuine smile she gave me felt different. Before I even realized it, I found myself speaking without thinking.

"You look beautiful, Akeno," I said softly. "Just like an angel."

The words hung in the air between us, and for a moment, Akeno's playful demeanor faltered. Her eyes widened slightly, and I could see a faint blush dust her cheeks.

"I am fallen angel, you do remember that, Right."

"But you are angelic enough for me."
