"Anyway, enough about that," I said, my tone shifting to something more playful. "Let's start our date. I promise you, this will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience."
Grayfia arched an eyebrow, her usual composed expression barely changing. Yet, I could see the glint of curiosity in her silver eyes. "A once-in-a-lifetime experience, hmm? Quite a bold statement."
"You'll see," I said confidently as I led her toward our first destination—the dining area on the 9th floor.
Nazarick was known for its overwhelming strength, but few knew just how lavish and refined it could be. When we entered the dining hall, the grandeur was impossible to ignore. Elegant chandeliers cast a soft golden glow across the room, and the tables were draped with fine silk cloths. Plates of various foods, expertly prepared, were already set.
I pulled out a chair for Grayfia, and she sat down, ever so composed, her movements graceful yet precise. I could see she was trying to maintain her professional demeanour, but I caught the briefest flicker of surprise in her eyes as she glanced at the feast laid out before her.
"I've had some of the finest chefs in Nazarick prepare a selection of dishes from different worlds," I said, gesturing toward the food. "I thought you might enjoy trying a few things."
Grayfia's cool gaze flicked over the assortment of dishes. There were delicacies from various realms—foods that weren't even known in the Underworld. Despite her composed exterior, I could tell she was intrigued. She picked up a delicate fork and sampled the first dish, a beautifully roasted piece of meat that melted in her mouth.
"This is... exquisite," she said, her tone neutral, though there was a slight softening in her eyes.
I smiled, watching her. "I'm glad you think so. Each dish has a unique flavour profile. Try the soup next; it's made with ingredients harvested from the 6th floor's Great Forest."
Grayfia took a sip, and for a moment, I saw her usual stoic expression falter. The rich, earthy flavours of the soup seemed to take her by surprise. She set the spoon down with a subtle nod of approval, but I could tell she was holding back more praise.
"You know," I said, leaning back in my chair, "you don't always have to keep that professional facade. It's okay to relax and enjoy yourself."
Grayfia's gaze met mine, her silver eyes softening slightly as she considered my words. "I am here as a guest, and it is my duty to represent the Underworld with dignity and grace."
"Of course," I replied with a playful smirk. "But this is a date, not a diplomatic mission. I want you to enjoy it—not just as a formality, but genuinely."
For a moment, she hesitated, her usual calm composure wavering. Then, to my surprise, she let out a small, almost imperceptible chuckle. "You are persistent, aren't you?"
"I prefer to think of it as being attentive," I teased.
The rest of the meal continued, and Grayfia slowly allowed herself to enjoy the various dishes. Though she remained poised, I could see her eyes light up slightly whenever she tasted something she truly enjoyed. She was trying to maintain her professional exterior, but I could tell she was letting her guard down little by little.
After the meal, I stood and extended my hand to her. "Now, for the next part of our date. I have something special to show you."
Grayfia glanced at my hand, then back at me, her usual unreadable expression in place. But after a brief moment, she accepted, allowing me to lead her out of the dining hall.
We arrived at the 6th floor—the Great Forest of Nazarick. The vast expanse of towering trees, dense foliage, and vibrant wildlife greeted us as we stepped into the open air.
The air was fresh, filled with the scent of pine and wildflowers, and the sky was painted in warm hues of orange and pink, signalling the nearing sunset. The towering trees, ancient and majestic, surrounded us, and the entire area felt alive, a stark contrast to the enclosed halls of Nazarick.
Grayfia's eyes widened slightly as she took in the sight. It was a rare display of emotion from her, and I couldn't help but smile at her reaction.
"I thought you might appreciate something a little different," I said, leading her deeper into the forest. "This is one of my favourite places in Nazarick. The sunset here is breathtaking."
Grayfia remained quiet, her eyes scanning the landscape. As we walked, I could see her tension gradually ease. The natural beauty of the forest was hard to resist, and even she couldn't completely hide her appreciation for it.
We reached a small clearing overlooking a serene lake, where the sunset was at its most vivid. The sky was painted in brilliant shades of pink, purple, and gold, and the water reflected the colours like a mirror.
Grayfia stood still, her silver hair catching the fading sunlight as she gazed out over the scene. For a moment, she seemed to forget her usual strict demeanour, her face softening as she absorbed the beauty around her.
"It's... stunning," she admitted quietly, her voice barely above a whisper.
I stepped up beside her, watching the same sunset, though my eyes were more focused on her. Seeing Grayfia, the usually stoic and composed maid of Sirzechs, captivated by the simple beauty of nature, was a sight in itself.
"I'm glad you like it," I said softly.
For the first time since we started our date, Grayfia let a genuine smile cross her lips. It was small, barely noticeable, but it was there—a rare, precious moment of vulnerability from her.
"This truly is a once-in-a-lifetime experience," she said, her voice carrying a hint of warmth.
