Chapter 15 - Whiplash

Light. Bright

I look to my left and find myself in the dirt. I push myself up from the floor and wobble to my feet, a faint ringing in my ears. I raise my hand above my eyes to see nothing but dirt and stone. I appear to be in a crater.

Where am I? Why? How?

"He's still alive?" A distant voice cries out.

Who-

Bzzzzzz.

I'm unable to finish my thought before a buzz hits my ears. Why is it familiar?

I instinctively turn to my left and slam my body to the side as a burst of energy slams into the earth where I was standing. CRACK

I look up to see a woman dressed in golden armor, her similarly colored hair floating behind her as she descends from above. She floats with such grace on her dove-like wings but the irradiated bow in her hand keeps me from admiring her any further.

"Stand down traitor!" The woman yells as she prepares to fire again. Her bow sparking with gold as she pulls an arrow out of presumably nowhere.

I have no time to speak. I have to move.

Instinctively, I move forward, blasts of orange propelling my feet across the crater and upward. I'd wonder how I'm doing this, but it doesn't matter now. In an instant, an arrow bursting with light barely misses me. Several more arrows follow, I seemingly dodge them. She goes to back up, but her eyes widen as we are suddenly face to face. I'm faster than her.

I slam my arm forward, but my shoulder is suddenly pushed back. I glimpse at my arm to see a spear wedged inside. I don't have a chance to think before the woman follows the blow up with a kick sending me crashing down into the dirt.

Who am I fighting? I think when suddenly, I feel the pain of the spear in my skin rush through me and something else. I look down and see another wound on my leg, one of the arrows caught me. I move to my feet only to hear a familiar crackling, the spear in my side glows blue for a mere second before-

"AHHHHHH!" I scream in agony as my arm is suddenly separated from my torso and I have fallen to the floor again. That's when I stop thinking.

I quickly move to my feet and rush forward again. I catch a blue glimpse of the one who threw the spear before I'm in his face. It doesn't matter who he is as I slam my fist into his shoulder. However, my hand is met with steel, my hand echoes with pain but nonetheless, I still leave a dent in his armor.

I go to swing again but this time, I'm met with a blade against my skin and a swift bash of iron against my chest, pushing me back.

"You need to work on your form Daena!" The man shouts as he raises his shield and holds his sword at his side, both coated in a cerulean glow.

An arrow seemingly follows his orders and hits me square in the shoulder. "Yes sir!" Daena says from behind me. I don't feel the pain this time as I slam my suddenly heavy arm down onto the man in blue. My arms crack his shield, he doesn't seem surprised like Daena however as his shield fades into mist and he pushes his sword into my ribs.

I roar like a wounded animal, but I don't let up. My arm swings again despite the injury and cracks into his shoulder again, this time feeling flesh instead of armor. A whistle suddenly pierces the air as the man moves back. A volley of blazing arrows suddenly crashes down from the sky and sends me plummeting down onto the ground once more.

"Took you long enough. This cretin doesn't deserve a chance to fight." The man barks as I push myself up. "Understood Tabus- I mean sir!" Daena says quickly. I stand wobblily and rip the sword out of my gut. Then, I quickly throw the sword toward Tabus sloppily, He moves a finger however and it bursts into a blue cloud. "How dare you try to use a holy weapon against me, you disgrace!" Tabus yells as a blue outline of a sword forms in his hand before forming into steel.

I don't respond as orange light pushes my feet off the floor and into the sky, orange blood still flowing from where my arm used to be. Tabus doesn't wait for me to come to him this time and flies to meet me. He slashes into my already bleeding shoulder and I take the blow as an opportunity to ram my one arm into his armor, pushing my fist into his armor but also past it into his skin. He grunts but doesn't hesitate to stab a newly formed dagger into my back. I can't react before another arrow crashes into me, pushing me through the air away from striking distance.

I turn to face them both only to see a golden portal above Daena. Arrows then immediately fly from it, buzzing with energy on their way into my skin. The impact sending me into the rough surface of the crater's wall. I cough up blood and more follows from the new holes forced into my grey skin. I however don't make a sound in response to the wounds. This causes Daena's eyes to widen once again and say, "He's a monster."

"That he is, as all who dare to betray the will of the divine." Tabus says lowly as a long intricately designed blade forms in his hand. "All monsters that reek of evil. It is our job to rid the world of their filth Daena." He continues as he points the godly blade toward my form and its sharpness glows with an otherworldly might.

"Prepare to be vanquished, you devil."
