Chapter 2 - 2. Who are you?

I woke up in the middle of the night, and it felt so good and relaxing that I couldn't even recall the last time I had slept like that.

The room where my baby bed stood was illuminated by moonlight streaming through the window. Laying in my bed, I gazed at the sky; the stars were shining and twinkling. It was so clear and beautiful—unlike anything I had ever seen before, even in my previous life.

Gazing at the starry sky, I remembered the voice I had heard in the void and felt extremely grateful to it. All of these unbelievable events that had happened to me were most probably the work of whoever that voice belonged to.

As I was sending my gratitude to the voice for giving me a second life and a family, suddenly a voice popped into my head that sounded like the one I had heard in the void, but not quite the same.

[Congratulations, Host. The Reincarnation process has been successful.]

I was surprised by the sudden words inside my head, but this time I did not get startled. I tried to raise my voice to ask something, but all that came out was a baby's giggle.

"Shit, I forgot I was in the body of a baby," I cursed myself for forgetting that, and now I felt embarrassed.

[...]

[If the host wants to have a communication, the host just needs to think inside your mind.]

"Oh!" I was genuinely surprised and terrified at the same time by the statement that the voice had just dropped out of nowhere—and I mean, who wouldn't be if someone casually said, "Hey, you know what, I can hear your thoughts!"

Anyway, I tried to think in my mind about what I wanted to ask, following the voice's words.

"Are you the one that reincarnated me?"

[No. The host was reincarnated by the God of Life and Death, as the host's soul was special and selected for reincarnation among billions and billions of other souls.]

I was flabbergasted by this new information that the voice casually provided. I mean, my soul is so special that it was selected by a literal "GOD" among billions of others. How crazy is that?

"S-so why did the 'God of Life and Death' choose my soul among billions of others? Am I so special?" I managed to ask, slightly stuttering, as I was still trying to wrap my head around the bomb of information the voice had dropped on me.

[I have no information regarding that, host.]

Hmm, it seems even the voice does not have all the answers. I concluded from its response, and then a different question crossed my mind that I don't know how I had forgotten to ask until now.

"Who are you? And why can you talk inside my head?"

[Now, that should be the first question that the host should be asking!]

I don't know why, but it seemed as if the voice was proud and excited to finally have a chance to speak about itself—or maybe it was just my imagination.

[There are systems inscribed in the soul of every person in this world to help them get stronger and make their life easier. I am also one such system, but more special than all the others, as I am specifically designed by the God of Life and Death himself to fully support the host in the host's second life.]

[The reason why I can telepathically talk to the host is because I am inscribed into the host's soul, or simply, a part of the host.]

So, there are systems inscribed in every single person in this world? Why do I feel like I have heard or read about this type of thing somewhere before? Hmmm, eh... that's not important right now. The important thing is that it said, "I am more special than all the other systems out there," so...

"What is different between you and the other systems?"

[Ahem!]

Did it really just say "Ahem!"? I mean, who says "Ahem!"—wasn't it supposed to be a part of my soul? Why did it feel like an entirely different entity from me?

[The other systems show the status of their respective hosts by providing necessary details wherever needed. But I am not like those common systems that everyone has. I can provide the same things for the host, but with extra detail and even some extra features, which the host will have to wait to access as the host is just a baby right now.]

"Ohhhh, aren't you too much overpowered?" I subconsciously thought after hearing its explanation, even though I didn't understand ninety percent of what it said.

[That I am!]

It sounded proud and happy after hearing praise from me, and this time it was not my imagination—it definitely wasn't.

But still, I had the feeling I had heard something similar to this somewhere before. Hmmm... but where? I just couldn't put my finger on it. Or maybe it was just my hallucination? Oh well, maybe it wasn't that important if I don't remember it. But wait a second—didn't it say something about status...

"Show me my status," I thought, barely able to contain my curiosity.

[The host cannot see his status at the current moment because the host does not possess a name right now. The host will be able to see his status after getting a name.]

"Ah! Right, I don't have a name." I seemed to have forgotten about it because I still thought my name was... huh? What was my name? Did I even have a name? I tried to think about it further, but then a sudden pain struck me.

"Argh!" I groaned, a cry of a baby escaping my mouth.

What was I thinking again? Right—Name. I was trying to get the voice's name, so I would know how to call it.

"Hey, what is your name? How should I call y—" My thoughts were interrupted by the sun's rays shining through the window. The sun had come up while I was talking (or thinking) with it, and then I heard the sound of the gate opening and footsteps of some people coming in.
