As the trio approached the client's location, a quiet alley on the outskirts of Vale, the air grew tense with anticipation. The only light came from flickering neon signs above nearby shops, casting long shadows. The client was supposed to meet them here at midnight, but something was unsettling about the silence.
Oscar led the group forward, keeping an eye out for any signs of trouble. He glanced at Blake, who was already on high alert, her sharp eyes scanning the area. Melanie walked slightly ahead, her confidence radiating in her stride, though there was a clear wariness in her posture.
Oscar couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. The last few days had been a blur of strange encounters, new alliances, and personal moments he wasn't sure how to handle. Weiss's kiss, which had caught him completely off guard, played on his mind more than he wanted to admit.
"Melanie, where exactly are we meeting this guy?" Oscar asked, trying to focus on the job.
Melanie didn't answer right away. Instead, she paused and gestured for them to stop. "The client should be here by now," she murmured, scanning the alley ahead. "Something feels wrong."
Blake's hand moved instinctively to her weapon, her ears twitching slightly. "Oscar, you might want to be ready for anything."
Before Oscar could respond, they heard footsteps approaching from behind them. All three turned in unison, preparing for what might be a surprise attack. But it wasn't an enemy—just a man in a long coat, holding a briefcase.
"Are you the team I'm supposed to meet?" the man asked, his voice calm but with an undertone of something unsettling.
Oscar's eyes narrowed. The man's face was hidden beneath the hood of his coat, but the faint glint of his eyes made it clear he wasn't an ordinary client.
"Yeah, that's us," Oscar replied, though he didn't trust the situation. "What's the deal? You don't exactly look like someone who needs an escort."
The man chuckled softly. "I'm not the one in need of help. You are."
Before Oscar could respond, the man's aura flared up, a dark and menacing presence engulfing the alley. Blake tensed, but it was Melanie who acted first. She leapt into the air, launching herself toward the man with incredible speed.
"Get down!" she yelled, her weapon appearing in her hands, ready for a fight.
The man raised a hand, and in an instant, Blake was caught in an invisible force, her body slammed against the wall with brutal force.
Oscar's heart raced. He didn't have time to think, only to react. He used [Shadow Travel], vanishing in an instant and reappearing behind the man, attempting to land a blow.
But the man smirked a twisted grin that sent a chill down Oscar's spine. "You're too slow, kid."
Oscar tried to strike again, but the man simply twisted his wrist, sending Oscar flying into the wall with a burst of dark energy. He groaned, struggling to regain his footing.
"Why fight when you can simply bend to my will?" the man's voice echoed through the alley.
Blake, recovering quickly, drew her weapon and fired, but the shots were deflected as if the bullets had no impact.
Oscar stood, his thoughts racing. "Who are you?"
The man's grin widened. "I'm the one who's going to bring everything you're trying to protect to its knees."
Oscar then grabbed the man's face and smacked him to a wall as he spoke. "So wanna continue".
The client spoke, and his head spinning. "I give up".
Oscar tightened his grip on the man's head, slamming him into the wall again to emphasize his point. His sharp eyes were locked onto the man's face, unyielding and unwavering.
"Tell your boss," Oscar said coolly, his voice cold as ice, "that Pleiades doesn't take things easy. You're lucky you didn't get worse."
The man, disoriented and terrified, muttered through gritted teeth. "Okay, okay... Mr. White. I'll tell him. Just... just don't hurt me anymore."
Oscar released him, letting the man slump to the ground, his face pale and his body trembling. Blake and Melanie, still on guard, watched carefully as Oscar took a step back.
"You're lucky we don't make a habit of roughing up our clients," Blake said, her voice laced with irritation, "but you're pushing it."
Melanie, who had remained unusually quiet during the exchange, finally spoke up. "We'll give you one chance to leave without further incident. Any more games, and we won't hesitate."
The man nodded frantically, scrambling to his feet. "I understand, I understand! I'll tell him everything... just please, don't hurt me anymore!" He staggered backwards, eyes wide, hands raised in surrender.
Oscar straightened, his stance still tense. "Get out of here. And tell your boss that next time, we won't be so lenient."
Without another word, the man turned and ran, disappearing into the shadows of Vale's dark alleyways.
Oscar exhaled slowly, his mind racing. "This wasn't supposed to happen like this," he muttered.
Blake shot him a knowing glance. "Well, it's never easy. But at least we got what we needed. Whatever it is that's going on, this is just the beginning."
Melanie nodded. "We've got a lead. But that man was hiding something. And I don't think we've seen the last of him."
Oscar clenched his fists, his mind already working through the next steps. "We'll keep looking, then. But we need to stay alert. Whoever's pulling the strings behind this... they're dangerous."
Blake looked over at him with a raised brow. "And you're ready for that, right? We're in this together."
Oscar smirked, his confidence returning. "Of course. Let's get moving. The night's still young, and we've got work to do."
With that, the trio melted back into the shadows of Vale, their mission far from over. The danger was only just beginning, and they were ready for whatever came next.
Blake then spoke. "You know that was weird, what was all that about".
Melanie chuckled as she spoke. "As someone who has been in the underworld since I was a little girl, there are a lot of people with their own group, thinking they are the biggest fish".
Oscar glanced at Blake and Melanie, his expression thoughtful. "Yeah, that was... strange. I'm not sure if it was just a power play or if they were trying to test us."
Blake tilted her head. "Power play makes sense. But if they were trying to test us, they failed miserably. The guy was terrified the moment you put your hands on him."
Melanie's chuckle faded into a smirk. "Exactly. It's all about posturing. In the underworld, most of these groups think they're untouchable because they can hide behind their connections. But one slip-up, one miscalculation, and they're nothing more than easy pickings."
Oscar's eyes narrowed slightly. "The guy's boss must be someone big. I mean, they wouldn't send some random lackey to us unless they felt confident."
Blake nodded. "Agreed. Whoever it is, they're playing a dangerous game."
Melanie stepped forward, her eyes scanning the dimly lit street ahead of them. "We'll be ready for whatever they throw at us. But don't get cocky, either. This kind of game is full of surprises."
Oscar nodded, tightening his grip on his gear. "I'm not looking for trouble, but I'll finish it if it comes my way. Let's head to the next location. We still have some work to do."
Blake walked in step with Oscar, her expression serious. "Right. The sooner we deal with this, the better."
Melanie was already a few steps ahead, her eyes sharp. "Stay alert, both of you. There's more to this than we're seeing."
Oscar's gaze shifted to the darkness around them, his mind replaying the encounter. "Yeah, and we need to figure out just who's really pulling the strings."
With a shared understanding, the trio continued down the alleyways of Vale, knowing that this was far from over. The game was far from finished, and the underworld had many secrets left to uncover.
Meanwhile in a different place.
A wolf-like Faunus with black hair, wearing a business suit, was sitting on the chair as he sighed. "You have to be kidding me; you pissed off Mr White; I told you just to do Business, no intimidation, and look at you, got your head smacked into a wall".
The man sitting across from the wolf Faunus winced, still rubbing the bruise on his forehead. "Boss, I-I didn't mean to. I thought showing a little dominance would—"
CRACK!
The wolf Faunus slammed his fist onto the desk, his sharp claws slightly extending as his golden eyes glowed with irritation. "You thought?" His voice was eerily calm, making the room feel colder. "Let me make one thing clear—you don't think when I give an order. You follow it."
The lackey swallowed hard, nodding quickly.
The Faunus sighed, leaning back in his chair. "Mr. White isn't just some street thug you can push around. He has power, connections, and a reputation that you just threw into question. Now, instead of a smooth deal, I have to clean up your mess."
A woman in a crimson dress sitting on the couch nearby chuckled. "Honestly, I'm surprised Mr. White didn't just break your jaw. You're lucky he's patient."
The lackey frowned, confused. "Wait… you were the one who told me to be more aggressive."
The woman's smirk widened. "Oh? And you actually listened? That's adorable."
The Faunus growled, rubbing his temples. "Enough. Damage control time. We need to fix this before Mr. White decides we're more trouble than we're worth."
The lackey hesitated. "Boss… do you think he'll retaliate?"
The Faunus narrowed his eyes. "If he does, we won't see it coming."
Silence filled the room as the weight of those words settled. Mr. White wasn't someone they wanted as an enemy.
The Faunus stood up, straightening his suit. "Prepare another offer. A better one. We need to make amends before this spirals into something we can't control."
The lackey nodded quickly, scrambling out of the room.
The woman in the crimson dress swirled a glass of wine in her hand, smirking. "So… are you scared of Mr. White?"
The Faunus shot her a sharp look. "I'm not scared of him… but I respect him. And in this business, respect is the difference between survival and extinction."
She chuckled again, raising her glass. "Well, let's see if he's the forgiving type."
The Wolf Faunus spoke. "Look, he came out of nowhere, and in one night he shook everyone in the underworld with his Fusion dust, he already has so many people working with him, and Junior working with him, he has made a deal with Roman, and the White Fang, it has been 1 month and every big player already knows about him, and even that Local Vigilante of Vale, White Mask, he is ignoring him, more Immorality he is using a loophole, in the eyes of the law he has done nothing wrong".
The woman in crimson leaned back, swirling her glass, her amusement turning into something darker. "So what? You think that means he's invincible?"
The Wolf Faunus stared at her, his sharp gaze piercing. "I'm not saying he's invincible, but the man is playing the game differently than anyone else. He's not just intimidating people; he's offering them something—a way to make money, stay out of prison, or even come out on top. And he's good at it. He's cornered the market on Fusion Dust. Hell, even the White Fang is playing nice with him, and that's not something you see every day."
The woman smirked, swirling her wine again. "And you think that makes him untouchable?"
The Wolf Faunus leaned forward, his voice dropping low. "No, it makes him dangerous. We've seen people rise quickly in this underworld before, but no one has moved with this much speed. He doesn't even seem to care about keeping a low profile. He's out there, in the open, making deals, making moves, and yet… no one can touch him. Not even the law. Especially not the law. The man's got something, and it's not just his money or his alliances. It's the way he's playing everyone's game better than anyone else."
A pause hung in the air before the woman in crimson spoke again, her tone less teasing now. "And you think we're going to just sit back and let him keep winning?"
The Wolf Faunus' eyes narrowed. "No, of course not. We fight back, but we do it smart. We can't just rush in blindly, hoping to take him down. If anything, we need to find out what he's truly after. What's his end game?"
The woman grinned, her eyes glinting. "And if we can figure that out... then we can turn the tables on him."
The Faunus nodded. "Exactly. We need information, leverage. We need to get inside his head, see what makes him tick. And then, we strike."
The woman set her glass down and stood up. "Let's get to work then. You've got your people. I've got mine. We'll start gathering intel. It's time to level the playing field."
The Wolf Faunus stood as well, straightening his suit once more. "This won't be easy. But if anyone can figure him out, it's us."
With that, they both left the room, their minds already working on the next steps of their plans. The underworld was about to get a lot more interesting—and dangerous.
