Chapter 668 - Chapter 668: The truth is indeed terrifying!

Once you open the door to the human imagination, it's hard to close it again.

A magical version of the internet... If the world of portraits is used as a basis, it is actually possible to achieve this.

After all, the characters in the portraits can visit each other, and they can even communicate with people outside the portraits. Not only that, but the people in the portraits also have their own memories, hobbies, and emotions.

They are comparable to artificial intelligence.

Andy was deep in thought for a while...

While Andy and Grey Lady were talking about alchemy, Hermione finally came back to her senses.

The past might have been bloody and cruel, but those dark times were over. The only thing people could do now was to prevent history from repeating itself.

Voldemort!

He not only wanted to rule the wizarding world, but he also intended to enslave the Muggles.

And those Death Eaters who followed Voldemort all shared the same thoughts as Voldemort.

At this thought, Hermione glanced at Andy.

Fortunately...

According to Andy, there is only one trigger away from Voldemort's complete defeat. Once the time comes, Dumbledore will completely end Voldemort.

Plus Andy...

Hermione felt that their hope for victory was still very high.

"Right!"

Hermione suddenly thought of something else. "Lady Grey...has there really been a god in the history of the wizarding world?"

When searching for the Deathly Hallows, Andy and Hermione discussed the question of whether or not a god existed.

According to Andy's guess, the Death may have really existed.

And even...someone may have killed the Death.

They killed Death and stripped Him of his powers, creating the three Deathly Hallows.

Power, invisibility, resurrection!

These powers are indeed very similar to those of Death.

What's more, Grey Lady's words have confirmed that history has indeed been altered.

Wizards once lived together with Muggles.

However, in the Muggle history, wizards and magic are merely myths and legends that have been made up, and there are no such beings as wizards in reality.

So...did the gods also live with the wizards?

It's just that part of history has been revised.

"Gods..."

Grey Lady spoke calmly, "Many people have looked for traces of the gods, but in the end they found nothing."

"Instead of exploring those vague legends, it's better to focus on learning practical knowledge."

Hermione's face flushed.

If she hadn't been so curious, she wouldn't have asked the question.

It was Andy's fault!

He always discussed gods and history with her, and he spoke so convincingly that he aroused her curiosity.

"We're not trying to find gods; we're just wondering if they really exist."

Andy explained. "To me, the existence of gods is an important thing because it's relevant to the truth about the world."

"What is magic?"

"What is the origin of magic?"

"We learn about magic; we learn all kinds of different knowledge, but in the end... we still know nothing about magic."

Andy said, raising his right hand.

A button on his sleeve transformed into a beetle under the influence of magic; it crawled around Andy's arm and then turned back into a button.

"I can do things like that."

Andy said solemnly, "But I don't know why I can do it."

"What's the principle behind it?"

"Transfiguration is indeed magical, but why did the button turn into a beetle?"

"Do you know, Lady Grey?"

Grey Lady looked at Andy in surprise. "What a brilliant display of Transfiguration! As far as I am aware, even the four greats of Hogwarts were probably more or less at a similar level."

"I dare not compare myself to those ancient wizards."

Andy shrugged, "They were the pioneers in the path of magic, and magic in those days was not all that perfect. I'm just standing on the shoulders of those who lived before me, learning something that is readily available."

Grey Lady nodded slightly upon hearing this, and she was quite satisfied with Andy's modesty.

"I really don't know the core reason why the button could turn into a beetle."

Grey Lady said, "You're right! Although we can use magic, we know nothing about it."

At this, Grey Lady gave Andy a deep look.

"You're currently in grave danger!" she said.

Andy: "?"

Hermione asked anxiously, "Lady Grey, what's wrong with Andy?"

"Searching for the truth is a very dangerous thing."

Grey Lady said with a complex tone, "I have lingered in this world for more than a thousand years, and I have seen many exceptionally talented wizards try to uncover the truth about magic."

"But without exception, they all ended up crazy."

Er...

Is it that serious?

Andy couldn't quite understand.

"As for the gods..."

Grey Lady hesitated for a moment but ultimately spoke up: "I heard people say when I was alive that the gods might have really existed, only that we could not find any traces of their existence."

"Just as Muggles don't know we exist."

"When a Muggle witnesses a wizard perform magic, we use Obliviate on that person."

"Gods are beings of a higher level than us; if they don't want us to discover them, we will never be able to discover them."

Andy nodded slightly.

This argument still makes a lot of sense.

As for what Grey Lady meant by 'I once heard people mention it', the Four Greats might have once discussed the topic of gods.

With this conversation, Andy had obtained the information he wanted.

"Thank you, Lady Grey."

Andy said with a smile, "It was a pleasant conversation tonight; then we won't disturb you any longer."

Grey Lady nodded curtly.

***

Back in the Ravenclaw library, Andy and Hermione found a corner seat.

"Andy!"

Hermione looked solemn. "We must stop the Dark Lord. If he succeeds, I'm afraid the wizards and muggles will go to war again."

"Do you know how many people died in mediaeval times?"

"Between 25 and 50 million!"

"I don't know if it has anything to do with wizards, but after centuries of major upheavals, there were two large-scale witch hunts."

"We can't let this tragedy happen again!"

"Of course!" Andy nodded.

Not only Voldemort, but there was also probably Grindelwald!

Dumbledore probably directed Hermione to explore history to let Andy know about these things.

After all... Andy's relationship with Grindelwald was complicated.

Of course, it cannot be said that Dumbledore was directing it entirely.

Because Andy himself is very interested in history.

Apart from that, the most important thing that came out of this conversation was two pieces of information.

The first was the relationship between alchemy and pictographic runes.

The second was that the Hogwarts Four Greats believed that gods once existed.

The second piece of information in particular had a huge impact on Andy.

Because there is a terrifying notion behind it!

Just as wizards could 'manipulate' muggles, gods could 'manipulate' wizards.
