Chapter 14 - Fortress Complete & New Recruits

The fifth month had arrived.

I had been preparing for months, laying the groundwork for survival when the inevitable chaos broke loose. Now, I wasn't just preparing myself—I was ensuring that everyone who mattered would have a safe haven.

My home? It wasn't just a house anymore.

It was a fortress.

I stood outside, taking a long look at what my once-not-so-average Japanese residence had become. Anyone looking at it from a distance would see nothing more than a quiet, well-maintained home tucked away in the city. But the moment someone tried something? They'd realize this wasn't just any house.

Exterior Security:

Perimeter Walls: Reinforced concrete, 4.5 meters high, topped with smooth steel plating to prevent climbing. The gates were electrically controlled (could be opened and closed manually, but just I now how), reinforced, and could withstand a battering ram.Windows & Doors: Bulletproof, shatter-resistant, and designed to be sealed from the inside in a full lockdown mode.Camera Surveillance & Motion Sensors: 24/7 monitoring around the property. If someone moved outside the designated safe zones, I'd know instantly.Underground Escape Routes: A tunnel leading to a secondary exit four blocks away. If things went south, we wouldn't be trapped.

Interior Upgrades:

Bunker: Hidden beneath the house, a reinforced safe room capable of housing everyone comfortably for at least a year. Stocked with food, medical supplies, and weapons.Water & Energy Supply:Underground water reservoirs collecting rainwater, with an advanced filtration system.Solar panels installed across the roof, paired with a backup generator running on biofuel.Garage & Workshop:A five-vehicle garage, complete with a mechanic's workshop.Custom vehicle modifications available: armor plating, tire reinforcements, and hidden compartments.

Stockpiles & Arsenal:

Food Storage: Enough non-perishable supplies to last over two years.Weapons & Ammunition:Firearms: Multiple rifles, handguns, shotguns, and high-caliber sniper rifles.Explosives: Flashbangs, smoke grenades, and some improvised explosives.Close Combat Weapons: Katanas, machetes, combat knives, and batons with spikes at the top.

Communications System:

Satellite Link & Encrypted Radios: With the internet and phone lines destined to fail, I had secured a private satellite communication network. No government interference. No shutdowns. Just pure, reliable contact with the people who mattered.

I had finished the last phase of reinforcement that morning. Everything was ready.

Now, it was time to expand the team.

That evening, I met with Izana Kuroinu—my most useful Yakuza contact. The man had grown more interested in my activities lately, but he also knew better than to ask questions.

We met at an underground private club, a place where gangsters and politicians rubbed shoulders in secret.

He grinned as I approached the table. "Marco, my favorite crazy foreigner. What's the occasion?"

I smirked. "I need more supplies. High-grade ammunition, specialty weapons, and if possible… an armored vehicle to carry supplies."

Izana raised an eyebrow. "Planning to start a war?"

"Something like that," I said casually, sipping my whiskey.

He chuckled, lighting a cigarette. "Alright. I can get you most of what you want. But it won't be cheap."

I slid an envelope across the table. Inside was a ridiculous amount of cash—thanks to my well-placed investments.

Izana whistled. "You're serious about this."

"Dead serious."

He nodded, pocketing the envelope. "Alright, I'll make some calls. You'll have your shipment in two weeks. But... just what the hell are you getting ready for, Marco?"

I smirked. "Just making sure I'm prepared and you should too."

Takashi Komuro was a wildcard.

Loyal, brave, and stubborn as hell. He was a natural leader, but he lacked direction and atittude. If he wasn't guided correctly, he'd either break under the pressure or become something he hated.

So I decided to recruit him early.

I found him near the school gates after classes, staring at his phone like something was bothering him.

"Yo, Komuro," I called, walking up.

He looked up, surprised. "Di Balla-san? What's up?"

"I want you on my team."

He blinked. "Your what?"

I leaned against the gate. "I'm building something. A group of people who'll survive when things eventually go to hell."

Takashi scoffed. "Sounds dramatic."

I shrugged. "Maybe. But you know it too. Things aren't normal anymore. Your instincts tell you something's coming, don't they?"

He frowned, looking away. "… Maybe."

"Then prepare for it. Train with me. Fight with me. I don't need you to follow orders—I need you to be strong enough to fight when it matters."

He stared at me for a moment before sighing. "… Fine. But don't expect me to take orders like a soldier."

I grinned. "Good. I wouldn't want it any other way, just don't shit with me."

I returned home later that night, mentally drained but satisfied with the progress made. As I walked through the halls, I found Rei waiting in the living room, arms crossed.

She raised an eyebrow. "Busy day?"

"You have no idea."

She studied me for a moment, then walked up, standing closer than usual.

"You're always so damn mysterious," she muttered. "Always planning something, always keeping things just out of reach."

I smirked. "Wouldn't be fun if I gave away everything at once."

She rolled her eyes but… she didn't step back. Instead, she reached up, brushing a hand against my jawline, her fingers lingering just slightly.

"You're infuriating," she murmured.

"Yeah," I said, my voice lower. "But you like that, don't you?"

She exhaled a small laugh, shaking her head. "Shut up."

And then she kissed me.

It was unexpected, but I wasn't about to complain. Her lips were firm, yet soft, pressing against mine with a heat that had been building up between us for weeks. My hands instinctively found her waist, pulling her closer.

When we pulled back, she gave me a look—one that wasn't just affection but something deeper.

"… Come with me," she whispered.

A challenge.

A dare.

I smirked. "Lead the way."
