Chapter 367 - Chapter 135

The little man also tried to cheat. And so did the third convict, a petty thief who had stolen a purse from the wrong maiden at the market, and so ended up in the northern mines. And here, too, he lacked the brains to realize, even as the third in line, that it was not worth lying to the knight. He lied. And at Alexander's feet lay three bodies, alive but unconscious.

- Since there are no loyal servants of the king here, but only rebels, take me to the next barracks.

As he walked outside, the vampire noticed a middle-aged convict scrutinizing him. As soon as Alexander was on the street, he immediately stopped and pretended that something was stuck to his boot.

- Hey! Scum! Someone come here quickly, I need to clean my boots!

The first to jump out was the convict who was scrutinizing the knight with his eyes. Immediately realizing what the matter was, he began to diligently clean the boot of the noble.

- Your Grace, I'll tell you everything, - the convict whispered quietly, continuing to clean the already clean shoes with the hollow of his jacket.

- Come with me! - The vampire didn't plan to set the man up, and so the man was grabbed by the scruff of the neck and lifted to his feet. "You clean your boots well, let's see how you lick them!

A convict on the outside kept a den of thieves. Having been caught during one of the raids, he could not prove his non-involvement in the crimes of his colleagues and went to penal servitude with them as a hardened thief. Naturally, he was not innocent. He stole, robbed, and raped. But he wasn't caught for it all.

Sometimes it happens, people call it karma or higher justice. Given a chance to get out of prison, the bandit intended to take it. Of course, he wasn't going to serve the knight, but he was going to report to the noble about the affairs of the mine staff to the fullest extent - honestly and without secrecy.

Of course, he was not what Alexander expected to get, but he was a fish out of water. And so, sitting in the office of the mine manager and sorting through the papers, the vampire listened to the convict's detailed report about the local employees. And then they began to bring the leaders to him...

Having found Baron Ridil not far from the descent into the bowels of the mine, the vampire approached him and stood silently beside him.

- Are you finished, my good man? - The man asked irritably.

- Yes. All the rebel sympathizers have been identified. If you will provide me with the necessary escort, I am ready to leave the fort tomorrow morning.

- I have no additional soldiers for you!

- Baron, you've been joined by almost 200 soldiers from the garrison. They'll suit me perfectly well as guards for the identified rebels.

- Do you not fear for your life? These soldiers can be unreliable!

The vampire laughed cheerfully and instead of answering, he took out the mage's badge he had taken off not so long ago and put it ostentatiously on his chest. The Baron grimaced in response.

- I will order fifty soldiers to be assigned to you. Will that be enough?

- Yes, Your Grace. I'll be sure to inform the archmage of your cooperation.

Leaving the disgruntled commander, Alexander quickly returned back to his office. For the rest of the evening he had to remove the stashed silver from the hiding places, organizing everything so that the archmage would get it and not to offend himself. This silver, from the empty fort, was to be taken by Leonid's gendarmes, so that everything would be useful for the household.

Money is never too much, especially if it is not lying around, but "working". All this had to be done in a hurry and quickly return back to the camp. It was pointless to wait until all the convicts had been brought to the surface and Baron Ridil could organize their convoy to Zalon.
