Gu Mingzhu stood to the side, watching as the Li family patriarch continued to beat Yan Luoxi with his walking stick. Although Luoxi stood with her back straight and didn't even try to dodge, Mingzhu hurried over to embrace her, shielding her from the blows of the cane.
"Grandfather, please stop hitting her. Sister-in-law is Brother's beloved treasure. If you hurt her, Brother will blame you." The force of the cane was heavy, and Mingzhu took several hits, feeling as if her bones would break under the impact.
The Li patriarch was fuming, "Mingzhu, step aside, I need to properly discipline this disrespectful girl."
Mingzhu, in considerable pain, grabbed the cane, gently persuading, "Grandfather, let's talk this out. Sister-in-law didn't mean to talk back to you intentionally. Please, don't be angry."
