Chapter 149 Distraction
As Kailey gently traced the marks on Aleshia's arm, she silently mouthed something while reading each one closely.
Aleshia noticed this but decided to let Kailey stay focused, remaining quiet, allowing the distraction to keep Kailey from dwelling on the earlier news and potentially breaking down. Aleshia watched as Kailey's eyes flitted from one mark to another. After a few moments, Kailey asked, "Are there any more marks on you that are covered by your clothes?"
"No," Aleshia replied. "I currently have only three marks on me, as you can see: on my arms and shoulder." She gestured to the areas as she spoke. With a curious expression, she asked, "Do you know what these characters mean, Kailey?"
"I have an idea, but as it stands, they are like some random sentences scattered throughout a book. I think I would need a few more to figure out the order in which they should be read to make sense." Kailey responded.
Hearing this made Aleshia feel disheartened, but knowing there were still options eased her disappointment. "Oh, that reminds me. Follow me," she said, getting up and heading toward the console, with Kailey following closely behind.
Upon seeing what Aleshia had brought her to, Kailey recalled a faint memory of the device. "Isn't this the device the witch hat used to control the tube I was in?" she asked. Remembering the witch hat, she added, "By the way, earlier you mentioned Lucia. Is that the witch hat's name? I don't remember hearing it before, not even when I accidentally entered that contract."
"Yes, that's the name of the witch hat. After we left the ruins, I decided to name the witch hat Lucia. Once we get out of here, I'll need to reintroduce you two," Aleshia replied.
"Sure, I'd be up for that. By the way, where is Lucia? Did you two part ways after leaving the ruin?" Kailey asked while trying out the witch hat's new name.
"No, we're still together, but I'm in a sort of soul space, so I doubt she can interact with us here," Aleshia explained. "I came into this space to seek knowledge about curses since we figured you have extensive experience with them, having searched far and wide for a cure for your own." Upon saying that, Aleshia suddenly realized there was no need to continue the search anymore. "Since you're here... Kailey, could you help us with some curses?" she asked.
