Chapter 154 Breakthrough
Kailey shrank back in remorse upon hearing Aleshia's cold tone. Realizing she had gone too far, she quickly apologized, "I'm sorry! I won't do it again!"
Accepting Kailey's apology, Aleshia softened her gaze and helped her to her feet. Still remorseful, Kailey asked, "Aleshia, can I see the new mark?"
Aleshia replied, "Sure, you may."
With her approval, Kailey quickly changed from her demure, apologetic demeanor to a diligent, serious one. She began searching for the new mark, eventually finding it on Aleshia's palm after checking several other areas she suspected.
Together, Kailey and Aleshia examined the mark and quickly realized that it had transformed into a small string of characters, unlike the mark they had previously seen on the wall. "So strange," they both said in unison.
Aleshia tried to decipher the mark on her own but had no luck. She turned to Kailey and asked, "What have you figured out about the mark, Kailey?"
"I think we've misunderstood these marks," Kailey said. "They aren't just words on a page like I initially thought. Instead, they are a magical script used for diagrams. This newest mark seems to serve as a foundation for the other marks. Since it ignored me, I would think that your body is special, acting as a conduit or incomplete magic circle." As she concluded, her voice grew faster and more excited.
"That's crazy," Aleshia blurted out. However, as she considered this new perspective, she began to make sense of it. She changed her tone and added, "But you might be onto something here."
Reflecting on Kailey's explanation about the mark and the possibility that her body could act as a conduit for a magic circle, Aleshia tried to visualize herself as a circle. As she envisioned the circle, Aleshia wanted to draw the circle on the ground but had nothing to sketch with. "Kailey, do you have anything I can use to draw with?" she asked urgently.
"I don't," Kailey replied, puzzled.
Disappointed, Aleshia rummaged through her pockets, hoping to find something useful. To her surprise, her hand brushed against an object. When she pulled it out, she discovered it was a piece of chalk. Confused, she tried to remember when she might have gotten the chalk and recalled the last time she and Kailey had been in that white space. Suddenly, it made sense. "This is a stroke of good fortune," she said with a smile.
