Once the house fell quiet, Jessica sneaked into Damon's bedroom, and she grinned when she saw him lounging on the couch in the room, staring at the door as thought he had been waiting for her.
The moment he saw her, he grinned as he leaned back on the couch, motioning for her to join him. "I was beginning to think you dozed off or changed your mind."
Jessica walked over and plopped down beside him. "I didn't. I was on the phone with my best friend. I was also trying to be careful. You won't believe your Mom tricked me earlier today into admitting you were in my room last night."
"So I heard. I fell for it too. It would have helped if you gave me a heads up," Damon said, and Jessica laughed.
"I'm sorry. I didn't want to call you over something like that. You could have been in the middle of something important and I'd interrupt with something that silly and unnecessary," she said, and her smile faltered when Damon stared at her for a moment without saying anything.
