Jessica sat in the back of the cab, absently tapping her foot as the city rolled past the window.
The music from the cab's stereo did little to ease the unease swirling inside her.
Her phone vibrated in her handbag. She pulled it out and saw Lilian's name flashing on the screen.
"Hey, Lilian," she answered, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.
"Hey, Damon's girlfriend," Lilian teased.
"I'm not Damon's girlfriend," Jessica said, amused.
"Yes you're. I hope you're having a good day. I wanted to let you know you don't have to pick Emily up from school today. I'm nearby, so I'll take her home. I want to hang out with her a little."
Jessica smiled. "Oh. That's… okay. Thank you."
"Of course," Lilian said warmly. "I already informed Dame. I'll see you at home later."
"Alright. Thanks."
