Chapter 15 - The Threat

"WOO! Ha, ha!" Aaron swung his spear, ripping through the monster rats with ease and laughing all the while. Monster rats ran at them from every angle, red glowing eyes and snarling in fury. Sebastion cut down one just to dodge another from behind him. He swung to the side, cutting it down. "How many of them are there?!" he shouted in pure annoyance. Alex and Jamie are tag-teaming, alternating between each other's backs. One seemed to drop from the sky, trying to ambush them, only for Jamie to send her spear through it. "Watch your heads!"

Amari jumped over a boulder, a lot of them chasing after her as she ran. "Milo! Got a vantage point?!" she shouted-asked. Milo, who stood on a large edge, readied his bow. "Got it!" Amari backflipped onto one hand and then pushed herself upwards in the air as Milo fired arrows at the monster rats. As she landed on the ground, she swung to the side, cutting one of them in half, and kicked one of them upwards, and an arrow went through it. "Ha, ha!" Aaron was blowing through most of the ones in front of him, leaving a gust of wind and laughter in his wake.

"My GOD," Sebastion said with a loud groan, "Finally! We're done!" Aamari picked up an arrow from one of the many bodies on the floor and gave it to Milo, who thanked her. "Aw," Aaron pouted almost kid-like, "I was just starting to have fun..." Jamie giggled, both at Aaron's comment and also at Alex, who was checking her over for any injuries, only to see none. "Starting to have fun? You literally were laughing the whole time." Sebastion pointed out.

Milo looked at his arrow, examining it before nodding. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw something move behind a sizeable rock. His eyebrows furrowed, and he reached out beside him to tap Amari on the shoulder. "This should be the last one—uh?" Feeling Milo tap her shoulder, she got up from her crouched position and looked at him. "I could have sworn I saw something move over there." Amari hummed before drawing a breath and yelling, "AARON!" Aaron turned his head to her. "MILO SAID HE SAW SOMETHING MOVE- where?" Amari asked Milo, pausing in her yelling. "Behind that boulder," Milo answered, pointing at it. "Oh, ok, BEHIND THAT BOULDER!" Amari finished, pointing at it.

The group walked over to the boulder, inspecting it. "I saw it move behind here," Milo said, trying to look around it. "So, we just have to move it." Sebastion said, making it sound like a question. "Guess so," Alex said, before trying to push the boulder. "What… are you doing...?" Jamie asked exasperatedly, "Trying...to...move...it," he said, gritting his teeth. Sighing, Jamie puts her hands on the boulder and pushes with him. Shrugging at each other, Milo and Amari joined in. Sebastion put down his sword and joined. Together, they were making progress slowly moving the boulder. Just then, Sebastion noticed a small hole that was starting to open up. "Hold on," Sebastion said, causing everyone to pause. "There's an opening!" "For real?" Aaron asked and Sebastion to nod. Aaron came up to them, shooing them to the side. "Alright, hold on," he said before putting both hands on the boulder and pushing it away easily and quickly. Like he did a quick push-up. Leaving Milo's jaw on the floor in shock, Sebastion's eye twitching, Alex sulking with Jamie patting his back, and all Amari could do was blink. "Why didn't you do that from the start?" Sebastion asked, eye twitching and annoyance in his voice. Aaron shrugged. "You didn't ask," he said before turning his attention to the now large opening that revealed to be a tunnel and wincing at the smell coming from it. "Hey, there are more of those footsteps," Jamie said, poking in. "Well, that settles it," Aaron said, bringing his fist to his palm. "This is where we go."

As the group exited the tunnel and entered a chamber of sorts, they sucked in a breath, horror filling their bones.

The stench...

The bones everywhere...

Dead bodies were sewn across the floor, waiting to be-

A figure sitting on a throne of human bones, apposing.

The figure had on a cloak, and its eyes were closed. The amount of maggots on the bodies makes Milo almost throw up. "Holy shit," Alex mumbled. Aaron guided them behind a boulder, hiding them. Amari lets out strangled breaths, fear encompassing Milo so much he was shaking in it. The stench was so overpowering that they had tears in their eyes. The grip Jamie and Alex had on each other tightened. Sebastion turned to Aaron, sweat beating down his face. "What do we do?" he asked in a hushed whisper. Aaron looked at the group before his eyes landed straight on Amari. "We deal with it." Amari grabbed onto her shirt in the spot where her heart is and took a deep breath before nodding. The group looked back at the figure from around the boulder. "Just to make sure we are all on the same page." Jamie started, swallowing some air in a breath, "We're jumping him, right?" She received nods from everyone. "Absolutely," "Yep," "Uuh," 100%," "No doubt." Just then the moment was broken. As they see the figure's eyes open, with the black cloak flowing around him, revealing black soulless eyes as dark as the abyss.
