The next night, I peep out of the curtain in the ritual/performance space.
Jocelyn, my parents, Fuxi, Mithra, Pazuzu, Demeter, Hades, and Persephone sit in the audience along with Persephone's and Hades' attendants from the Underworld. Fauns flit here and there, refilling drinks and asking if the audience needs anything.
The atmosphere is electric.
Since our return from the Underworld yesterday evening, we've thrown ourselves into preparing for this play. In-between catching up with her mother after so many years, Tina has worked her butt off to make this production a success. She would probably build Hades and Persephone an old-style Ancient Greek theater for the play if they asked her.
I step away from the black curtain and turn to the cast gathered around me. Everyone is adjusting costumes and checking each other's makeup and making sure we all have our props. Aristophanes has taken up a spot near one of the columns, and gestures frantically for us all to start the show.
