When Sophia came out of the shower, she saw Capone sitting on the edge of her bed, gazing down at the chain in his palm, lost in thought.
She walked over and said, "What are you thinking about? It's rare that you don't have to work overtime—get some rest early."
Capone looked up and smiled at her, then lifted the chain in his hand and dangled it in front of her. "Look at this."
The diamond ring that had been hidden inside the mint tin was now threaded onto the pocket watch chain. Now, it really did look like a necklace.
He looped the chain around her neck and stepped back to admire it. "Hmm, looks pretty good."
"It's a pity it's not on my finger though. Rings always look best on the hand," she said.
Capone reached for her hand and gently stroked the rose-gold ring on her pinky. "This one was from me too. It looks just as beautiful."
Their little token of love—it looked perfect, no matter how you looked at it.
