After a long journey and changing two buses, Xia Lu finally arrived home. As she pushed open the front door, she was greeted by Zhang Ma.
"Madam, have you had dinner yet?"
Xia Lu glanced up at the clock on the wall—it was already eight o'clock. The evening rush hour today coincided with a spell of rain that was neither too heavy nor too light. Various minor accidents on the road kept happening, and several sections were jammed up, bringing traffic to a standstill. With the constant starts and stops, it had taken her almost two hours to finally get home, and she was famished.
"Not yet... please prepare something for me," Xia Lu said as she removed her slightly wet coat from the rain.
"I'll get started right away, it will be ready soon," Zhang Ma said before hurrying off to the kitchen.
Meanwhile, Zhou Mingchen was leisurely sitting on the sofa, engrossed in a book, looking quite content after having had his dinner.
Xia Lu changed her shoes and sat down opposite him.
