When Jessica returned to her desk, the other secretaries looked at her inquisitively. She had calmed down and didn't look any different than she had before she went to the conference room. Instead, she looked more spirited and was even smiling widely.
"Jessica, why do you look happy?" Stella, the head of secretaries, asked, finding her expression odd. Although it wasn't weird for her to smile, it sure did look peculiar after an hour-long meeting with their Boss.
'Why would I not smile?' Jessica thought, controlling herself a little. 'My family is safe and I'm relieved.' If not that the men were still keeping an eye on her parents and her brother, she'd have shouted to the entire world and expressed her relief and joy.
"By the way, what did Miss Lawrence ask?" Sandra, the woman who was in her early twenties, asked.
"Ohh, that reminds me. Miss Lawrence asked one of you to go next," Jessica said, looking at the three women one by one.
