Charlotte sat on the living room couch, her face buried in her hands as tears slipped through her fingers. The television was off, and the only light came from a dim lamp in the corner of the room.
She sobbed quietly, almost as if trying not to make a sound, but the pain inside her was impossible to contain. Her chest tightened, and she couldn't stop the tears that kept rolling down her face.
In that vast and dark room, she felt alone, crushed by the overwhelming worry she felt for Eric. She had just found out that he had been hospitalized and had no idea how to react.
Furthermore, since she didn't have a driver's license, she would have to wait for her husband to return with the driver if she wanted to visit Eric.
Then, the abrupt sound of a door slamming open echoed through the house, interrupting her thoughts.
