"Now the thing I need to be ascertain about Is how much do the both of you really want this to be your future?" Mr Faisal is ticking his pen. We're standing infront of Mr Faisal's desk, waiting for victor to arrive, to learn about all the informative conditions we'll be needing in order to become apart. I don't know why or for what reason I just can't seem to like victor. But though when we got here I thought they'd throw us out again like they did before, but surprisingly all the macho men didn't say a word to us, infact they showed us our way here, they certainly didn't look like they enjoyed being gentle to us, so I suppose Mr Faisal had ordered them to be kind, which makes me stand even taller than before, I think he likes us, I mean why wouldn't he, I'm awesome. "We've been waiting all our lives for this moment" I say, It sounded desperate but it's true.
"Really?" Mr Faisal raised his eyebrow.
"So Eventually we ran out of patience.."
"Low patienceness leads to unsuccess, every great work needs to be taken care of patiently" He interpreted me mid sentence and laid his statement
"You know how baybasi can make people do things they're not so proud of" Ifan speaked facts.
"But I still need to test you two before accepting and hiring, am I wrong?"
"You didn't want us before, what changed? I asked my concern. He said nothing.
Ah oh my gosh–
That's because he's got nothing,
no matter how bad or good we are, He needs us for this mission.
Why else would he kick us out the first and hire us a week later. He's just as much in need as we are.
Bingo.
The door opened making a cranky sound.
"We told you to come next friday, didn't we?" Victor stepped in the office. He's always so firm and steady, even when he's threatening which obviously makes it ten times worse, I believe calm is something way stronger and wiser than anger. It just hits the nerve, as if a punch staight in my gut. Unnecessary use of power is just loud. Not sharp, to make people seem weak and scared. My father always used to say "True power is to handle situations without losing your cool." Exact description of how Victor is. But at the same time victor is just a pawn, a right hand, a servant, and he knows he doesn't hold that power.
"We had to" I say.
"We've got a situation of our own, we can no longer stay at our house so, if you just let us explain our concerns we'd be greatful" Ifan continued my sentence. That was way too straightforward. It's good.
"He would let you, although if it was up to me I wouldn't have wasted a single minute to tolerant you two, it's a shame you're wasting your time here" Victor's sight is on Ifan, he has a serious problem when it comes to Ifan.
"But its not up to you to decide that, am I right?" I push his limits.
"I want to hear them talk Victor" Mr Faisal lit up his cigar. Of course he does.
Awesome!
"Yes sir" the corners of Victor's lips raised diagonally.
"Spooky.. isn't he" Ifan muttered in my ear.
If I were to, I'd make him work for me. that ego he has on his face, making his pride go high, it will fade sooner or later. I'm talking about victor If not understood.
"We will explain our procedure of the operation, your place and duty, if you can do it, you nod and we have our agreement." Faisal took out some kind of remote from his drawer, I can never understand technology, he pressed some button and a screen popped up out of a table, I thought that was a plain table, I'm wrong. The screen is flatter than a thin paper, like what those older people used to believe earth was like, its the exact description. what the heck.
"Listen carefully" Victor sat down. As if we weren't listening before, he's stupid.
"We got a situation. Another hub's moving a shipment of rare pharmaceuticals, supposed to be split four ways. But Erdoğan, is one of those greedy hub's leaders. he's a wild card. Thinks he can play both sides. Newsflash, he ain't one of us. We're talking sanity, he's talking chaos.
The plan will be looking like we're stealing their product when in reality it's our share we'd be earning. Got it?"
Victor turned around to look at us.
What
What
What?
What did he just said?
I didn't understand a thing so I just nod.
"Erdoğan's been playing both sides for too long. Time to show him what happens when you cross the family. We take what's ours, and he'll learn to respect the hierarchy." He further explained, blah blah.
"Keep in mind that our objective is to reclaim our rightful share, creating the appearance of a strategic retrieval rather than theft. It is essential to understand that this operation aims to restore balance and ensure equitable distribution." Faisal repeated, can he see I'm not getting half of what victor is saying?
If that's the case, Faisal is officially the coolest man to exist.
Vicror then explained the whole procedure of the plan, and blah blah blah, he gave Ifan more work than me thus that is why I didn't pay much attention. I'm technically sleeping with my eyes opened. Don't get me wrong I'm so proud of Ifan and I think he can do great work, alone or not, it's not Ifan, it's victor I don't trust, I know where he's going. He'd do anything to make us fail. We won't let that happen, I can not feed his ego, He's so problematic. Victor explained more like narrated the whole mission, our roles and everything.
Got it,
its a thumps up from me.
"But under few conditions" Faisal finally speaked up after the plan's guideline was handed to us.
"The conditions are If you get caught or seen we are not responsible for it nor will we defend you, our authorities will not protect you, you're doing it all at your own risk, and when or if you succeed to do so, we'll hire you or think about hiring you after you've become our responsibility, you two will be under our protection untill you don't mess it up. Understood?" Faisal placed his statement in the air. Mr Faisal's voice is so deep, I can literally feel it go down my spine. I guess that's when we nod for the agreement to be completed. We both nod agreeingly. "Than its sealed, wish you the best" Faisal's lips curled upward.
Was that a tiny smile?
I've never seen that man smile before. Like ever!
Just before we were about to leave Mr Faisal called me.
"Sam Have we ever met before?" Where did that come from? "I'm afried we have not sir" I respond but I feel the urge to say, "But life's weird and we get the urge to say, Jaise mazi mein kuch khoya ho, jaise zindagi ne itafaq ka naam he mujhse leya ho."
I used my father's shayri.
"Right?"
Translation
"As if I have lost something in the past, as if life has taken the name of coincidence from me."
"Munfarid andaz you've got" Is that a compliment coming from Faisal? For me? Am I dreaming! this is the best thing that has ever happend to me so far. I smiled back and we left the office.
"Do you think they liked us?" Ifan looked at me. "I think so" I say. Maybe he does.
"Though we'll be adding some changes to their plan." I tell Ifan. "What? Why? Are you sure that's a good idea? What If that makes them not want us anymore?"
"Then I guess we'll see about that."
. . . . .
We're at the back side of our town, some kind of alley it is, it's not that far away so we have to be even more careful, great. Ifan and I are securing this area, making sure no one steps here, the door half way through the wall slide opened.
"There" A man handed me a huge black bag. "Thats it?" I toss it over my shoulder.
"No, there's more" the man signaled some other men to move, and a bunch of men followed his lead. "Here, you'll drive" He tossed truck keys over to Ifan.
"What? Why me?" Ifan catched the keys, losing his balance.
"Because you're supposed to. Hurry head to where you've been told, you'll find a disguised container truck, start driving, you'll stop where and when I tell you to."
"Rogar" Ifan winked at him. To tease of course, I chuckled.
I take cover after they leave, behind an ending brick wall from where I can see the container truck from afar, I tie the man laying next to me on the ground, his hands and feet together.
Now you might be wondering how did this happen uhm so long story short we basically kidnapped Erdoğan's men in the process of them fitting the bags inside, Ifan took this man's clothes, so now technically he's the personal driver they hired now, on the other hand I'm supposed to keep an eye on them while they reach their destination, subsequently they're supposed to creep up to Erdogan's truck, we know the way they'll be heading, Faisal's high tech people are behind stage, keeping an eye on us through a hidden set of eyes fixed inside their truck. If you didn't get what I'm saying, I'm talking about a camera. Then we'll hijack their truck, move to their truck after unloading and transporting the drugs to our truck, ending with some of our men who will take their truck.
Wow that's a lot of use of the word truck.
Anyway, then we leave it in the river pretending they had an accident, wink wink. Showing in which they lost all their goods, While we take their goods to our place and act all innocent. Simple as that.
I'll be there but not exactly there, my job is adjustable, to keep an eye if something goes wrong or happens to Ifan.
They didn't exactly directly told me that, this is entirely my own doings. A man can never be too sure of somebody. Anything can happen at any moment. Victor only told me to lay back, kidnap, tie and watch, But I'm not more of an 'on watch' guy, I'm more into "watch me" guy, But they don't know that.. yet, right. They only took Ifan as a driver because he knows more about cars, my suspicious is that they only took him because he's navie and would get played by them easily, where as I, won't be. Maybe it's only in my subconsciousness. But it does make sense to me and that's all that matters, As long as it makes sense to me, cause not to brag but I may happen to have a little bit of that spiderman tangling. enough about me, I fix my hair, looking at glass near me, gosh I'm handsome. God really put some extra effort in making me. Moreover, As for now, I can see Ifan getting in. "Good luck buddy." Fingers crossed though, as soon as he starts the engine, I get away to where I have to go, through the door crossing the little rusty room Where we knocked those men out, literally so proud of us.
I reached the back side where there's a dusty old garage. Don't ask me how I know about this or how I theft the keys, I just did okay! Cough cough.. 'chad'
But what can I say, Can't judge a guy who's looking out for himself. I grab the chain that pulled the door upwards as my eyes sweeped back and front, I pulled it over my head all the way up till it reached to the top, I secure it there and vollah! there's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my entire freaking life.
"Harley-Davidson V-Rod heavy bike" I remember my father having one. I fix my helmet, despite it ruining my perfectly set hair, I pull down my helmet glasses, And I'm ready to—
Wait— What the heck?
Its not electric, Mr Fasial seriously needs to upgrade, it's a damn kickstarter. I give it a few kicks to get the engin running. Way to ruin my heroic entry but. "Here goes nothing" I shift my gears and start following the container truck from afar, however they're on the main highway, I move around the half made path that is almost cracked and super bumpy, I slow my speed, keeping a stealthy and slow foxy eye on em, everything's seem to be working fine for now, after some while that felt a lot more, they finally reached Erdoğan's container truck, and according to plan, they blocked, hijacked, knocked of their men and switched the goods.
I can't see Ifan anywhere, Good thing They're careful but where is my brother? Anxiety curling up my sleeve, deep breaths in, deep breaths out.
I see, They're heading out.
I stay where I am, I think I'm overreacting, maybe things won't go south, it should occur to me that maybe for once I don't have to have a backup plan ready to go.
I need a cigarette,
I pull one out of my pocket, as my lips parted, a flash hits the corner of my eye, Red singal.
Dammit
Dammit
Ifan's giving me the signal, the signal we planned he'd give via breaklight if he thinks something's off. dammit Ifan. Dammit my gut. I make an unqualified, sudden move to get on main highway, changing my gears as I speed up to cross them behind, in conclusion, once I left them behind I turned around back to their direction again, facing upstraight right at them, as we gott closer I can see the look on Ifan's face more clearly, trust me buddy I know what I'm doing, they might lose their Shit. The truck tried to slow down and their sudden break made their truck jerk making the whole truck rotate, in the wrong freaking direction, move! move! move! I try to escape, my wheels get twisted and in an instant I'm on the ground. Ifan tried to balance the truck, it's a rear bumper dangling precautionsly, but it still clashed onto the sideway while as I, as predicted am stuck under my heavy bike, never thought I'd say this but I think my leg is screwed, my whole bike scratched and dropped down, the container truck's front tires are bumped inside the sand, I can smell the burning rubber and oil, and the back wheels are still rotating. "move the fuck out of that truck" I yell.
Ifan got out injured, there's a few, Not that I'm comparing. "What the fuck was that Sam?" Ifan yelled, "I'm bleeding" I groan.
"Don't play the victim card with— ew what the! you are bleeding!"
"Shocker right" my words came out all burnt, everything's a blur— w..what is happening to m..me.
"Remember sam, it's always the foe who acts nice"
"Why's that baba?"
"Baba?"
"Baba?"
Someone splashed water on my face, I gasped
"Sam wake up!" Ifan's voice is echoing.
My head is spinning, what the hell happend..
accident, truck, Faisal, drugs, Ifan gave me signal, smell of rubber..
No
No no no!
Ifan has blocked my bleeding with his torn out sleeves.
"How long have I been out?"
"About 10 to 15 minutes max"
Oh no no no! it can't be!
"What?" I saw a suspicious—
"The truck's smoking up Ifan" I got closer.
"That's what I was gonna say, It shouldn't be, it didn't hit anything, and the break wasn't that hard either" Ifan examined the truck, he sat next to the left tire. "Tire seems fine, the accident wasn't that bad"
"Are those men still unconscious?" I checked through the windows. The Back door unlocked. "Are you okay?" A man walks out, He's struggling to stand on his feet, his head's bleeding. "You fucking piece of shit" the man attacked me out of nowhere grabbing me by my collars, I expected that. the other man punched Ifan when he tried to help me. "Let go of me" I struggle, I swing my feet, but they bearly touched him because of the injury I got, he's too huge, Threw me on the ground, and I hit the back of my head. Should've left the helmet on—I groaned in pain, I'm trying to get back up when we all hear another truck stopping near us.
Whenever I think it can't go any wrong, oh they do.
We all peaked at them, the other man is scowling, still on Ifan, having him stuck beneath his elbow, so that he doesn't run away, I mean how can we? Have they seen themselves? literal definition of macho nacho. The symbol on that truck that arrived, is quite literally the same symbol that's on the truck we came in. I knew something was off, Ifan knew something was off. Indeed someone really was off.
I've seen this symbol before. They think we'd come on a mission without doing our studying. It's Erdogan's men. This couldn't possibly mean Faisal played us? Could it? A man got out and stood over me, he'll beat me too, isn't he, I'm coughing blood man just have some mercy for a second. The man covered a bag on my head and threw us in the back of their container truck.
We're being kidnapped?!
Talking about things can't go south.
Is it the kidnapping or global warming that is making me mad cause I can literally rip open this cage. I literally can't see anything. I kicked the door to bang it open.
OUCH! dumb move—leg was already screwed, I think I might've accidently broken it, too.
Fuck.
