"Yes, but I am sorry, Hazel. We just talked and got lost in time, reminiscing about the past."
There was a long silence after that. Ema thought Hazel finally got it, but the truth was: Hazel muted the phone because she was squabbling with Laurel about the cake.
This woman was out of her right mind; she was miserable, and that's why she wanted to make all of the people around her miserable too.
"Hello." Ema frowned because the silence was too long, and this confused her as well. "Are you there?"
Only then did Hazel pick up her phone again. "Yes, I am here. So, has he finished taking a bath? Tell him to come here right away."
Ema gripped the phone tightly, and she looked like she was going to explode. "Of course, I will tell him right away. He is washing his hair."
And there was another silence, but then Hazel spoke with this monotonous voice. "Are you watching him wash his hair?"
