Chapter 238: Promoted to Deputy Steward
Andviel's cheeks turned even redder. She carefully glanced at the door, then stood up and sat on his lap.
Her fluffy tail stiffened.
Wu Heng felt enveloped by softness. He hadn't expected that despite Andviel's slim appearance, she was so curvy. He gently touched her fluffy tail.
Andviel's body became even more tense.
She leaned into his embrace, hugging Wu Heng's neck, her chin resting on his shoulder, and whispered breathlessly, "Master, stop teasing me."
Wu Heng raised his hand to hold Andviel's waist and lightly nibbled her earlobe.
He picked her up and placed her on the bed nearby, beginning to undo his belt.
Andviel covered her face with both hands. In the blink of an eye, she found herself undressed. Her large tail covered her important areas in front.
With no movement from him for a while, she peeked through her fingers.
She saw him sitting opposite, admiring her.
"Master, don't look."
"Alright." Wu Heng got up and embraced her as they lay down on the bed.
......
The next morning.
Wu Heng went directly to the guild.
Finding no one in the lounge, he sat in the guild hall for a while.
The matter of half the city's nobles dying hadn't spread in the city.
No one discussed it, and the Iron Guard Knights didn't come to investigate.
It was as if the event hadn't happened at all.
It seemed that the gathering those people held in the manor was also kept secret from outsiders.
It would be some time before their families started investigating.
This was good; the longer it took, the less likely anything would be found.
Seeing that none of his team members had come by,
Wu Heng got up and walked out of the guild.
Just as he was about to check on the renovation of the "Golden Cat" building, someone hurriedly approached from behind.
Keeping a respectful distance, they called out, "Captain Wu Heng, Miss Lecia invites you over."
People from the Snake Emblem Consortium.
Wu Heng nodded, "Alright."
Saying this, he walked towards the consortium's building.
In the consortium's lounge.
Lecia crossed her arms over her chest, frowning slightly as she stared at Wu Heng for two or three minutes.
Then she said directly, "Did you have something to do with the collective disappearance of the city's nobles? Even if they supported 'Elno', it wouldn't warrant implicating all of them, right?"
Wu Heng's eyes narrowed; he hadn't expected the consortium's information network to be so well-informed.
But their intelligence was clearly misdirected.
Lecia didn't know they were members of the 'Secret Cult'; she thought Wu Heng had killed them because of matters in Rentam City.
Wu Heng decisively shook his head, "It wasn't me. I'm a guild captain with moral boundaries; why would I kill them for no reason?"
Lecia continued to stare at him seriously, as if trying to determine whether he was lying by observing details.
The two stared at each other, eyes locked.
After a moment, Lecia continued, "Are you sure it wasn't you?"
"What are you saying? I don't even know who the city's nobles are, let alone who supports whom," Wu Heng replied.
Lecia glanced at him again, feeling that what he said made sense, but still said skeptically, "Hmph, your words can't be fully trusted."
Wu Heng retorted, "Did someone ask you to inquire?"
"No, it's just that the city's nobles are either gone or missing. My work is becoming increasingly difficult," Lecia leaned back in her chair and sighed.
"I thought something serious happened; you're just worried about business declining."
"Just casually asking," Lecia clapped her hands lightly. A staff member walked in, holding two skill books, and respectfully placed them on the table.
Lecia introduced, "I acquired two skill books for you."
Wu Heng nodded and looked down.
[Withering Spell][Feign Death]
Both were Necromancy skills.
Wu Heng glanced through them and put them away.
These skills weren't particularly useful.
He said directly, "Help me find [Pestilence Insects Spell] and [Corpse Explosion]."
Lecia called the staff again to fill out a commission form.
She then asked, "Has the guild appointment been issued?"
"No, the process seems complicated."
"You won't be transferred away, will you?" Lecia looked at him again.
Wu Heng raised an eyebrow and teased, "You can't bear to see me go?"
"Of course. With few nobles left in the city, who would I rely on for business if you leave?"
"Hmph, women."
They chatted for a while, and the commission form was completed.
Wu Heng bid farewell and left the consortium.
......
Returning home.
Wu Heng went straight to the study and began reviewing the two new skill books he had obtained.
In the afternoon, the skills were unlocked one after another.
[Skill Unlocked: Withering Spell]
[Skill Unlocked: Feign Death]
......
He went to the zombie world, appearing in his room.
It must have rained last night; the air was filled with a damp, foul smell.
A bit of a wash was good; otherwise, the streets would be covered in blood and rotting flesh left from battles.
Just as he was about to take out the walkie-talkie to call Li Yanhong,
He paused, opened the window, and listened carefully.
With his enhanced perception, his hearing and vision far surpassed ordinary people. Amid the chaotic sounds, he caught faint gunshots.
And they were very intense.
Gunshots?
The auto repair shop didn't have guns, and the gunshots were coming from quite a distance.
Could it be the Flame God Shelter clearing zombies?
It shouldn't be; they had safe routes through here and wouldn't engage with zombies.
Firing guns here was suicidal!
He pressed the walkie-talkie again to call Li Yanhong.
As he opened the door to go downstairs, Li Yanhong was coming up.
"Heading out?" Li Yanhong asked.
Wu Heng didn't answer but instead asked, "Did you hear gunshots nearby?"
"Not sure; I didn't notice any," Li Yanhong shook her head.
"Get the convoy ready; we're going out."
"Alright!"
......
The convoy moved in the direction of the gunshots.
By now, Li Yanhong and the others could hear the sharp gunfire.
Along the way, zombies were also drawn away by the gunshots.
Wu Heng didn't let the convoy get too close and stopped at a distance.
Soon, the ghost 'Xiaoxiao' flew back from the sky, and the distant gunfire abruptly stopped.
Xiaoxiao entered the car, gesturing as she said, "There are some bad guys over there; they should be dead now."
"Bad guys? How does Xiaoxiao know they're bad?" Li Yanhong asked.
"They were arguing just now, insisting on blocking the road to rob people. They attracted a horde of zombies, and then two of them started fighting, shooting wildly."
Wu Heng and Li Yanhong exchanged glances.
Both were somewhat surprised.
Well, someone was blocking the road here to rob shelters coming to trade.
It was actually a clever idea.
"Let me take a look," Wu Heng said.
"Okay!" Xiaoxiao agreed, circling once before entering Wu Heng's body.
An image immediately appeared in his mind.
Xiaoxiao had followed the gunshots and easily found the combat location.
In a roadside noodle shop, bullets were being fired continuously, taking down zombies outside.
Xiaoxiao flew into the shop, where there were six people. Only two held rifles; the rest had spears made from iron pipes.
Someone was cursing loudly, "Damn it, insisted on robbing, and now we're all going to die here."
"Screw you! I did it for everyone. You enjoyed the women we captured and ate the food, and now you're scared when facing danger," another retorted.
"To hell with you! I deserved that. If it weren't for..." The man who was cursing didn't pay attention and got bitten on the back of his hand by a zombie.
The others were shocked to see him bitten.
The other gunman pointed his weapon at the bitten man.
The bitten man also looked terrified and shouted, "If I die, none of you will live!"
Bang bang bang~!
Gunfire erupted again, but not towards the zombies.
They shot at each other, bullets hitting walls and kicking up dust.
Meanwhile, the horde outside rushed in, killing the remaining survivors.
Devoured completely.
......
"How is it?" Li Yanhong asked.
"They're all dead," Wu Heng replied, then instructed the big-headed skeleton behind him, "Have all the skeletons get out of the vehicles and prepare for battle."
Clatter~!
A swarm of skeletons jumped off the trucks, forming tight formations ahead.
"Advance."
Clatter~!
The skeletons pointed their spears forward and began marching.
As they emerged onto the street, the dispersing zombies noticed the approaching skeletons.
Letting out heart-wrenching howls, they swarmed towards them.
Wu Heng observed the distance, "Throw spears! Release!"
Whoosh whoosh whoosh~!
Waves of throwing spears fell from the sky.
Large numbers of zombies were pierced and fell backward.
After the volley, Wu Heng ordered the attack to continue. Big Guy and other mutated zombie-turned skeletons led the ordinary skeletons in a charge.
They knocked down swaths of zombies, engaging in close combat.
The skeleton spear phalanx advanced, battling the zombies head-on.
For a time, the sounds of battle filled the air.
......
Night fell.
Scattered, mutilated zombies continued crawling forward.
They were crushed into pulp by Big Guy.
Wu Heng walked over to inspect the survivors' vehicles.
There were four vehicles in total. Two contained white flour and solar panels, likely what they'd intercepted.
The other two held these people's supplies.
Unfortunately, they were no longer needed.
Wu Heng entered the shop and collected two rifles and ammunition.
Thinking for a moment, he decided to use [Speak with Dead] on one of the corpses that had turned into a zombie.
This was the ruthless one who was bitten first and shot at his companions.
The corpse opened its eyes, unintentionally letting out hoarse groans.
"Where did you get the guns?" Wu Heng asked.
"From a military camp up ahead; we got them there," the corpse replied.
"What's a landmark building near there?"
"'Bifeng Shopping Plaza.'"
"Are there any supplies or weapons left there?" Wu Heng continued.
"Lots of military vehicles and weapons."
After answering, the corpse lay back down.
Zombies could only answer three questions, and only about things they saw before being infected.
These guys were quite lucky to have gotten two guns.
Exiting the shop, Wu Heng said, "Have Qiangzi and the others drive these vehicles back."
"Okay." Li Yanhong took out the walkie-talkie, and the convoy in the distance turned on their headlights, driving over.
Wu Heng then had the skeletons clean the battlefield, collecting all the corpses.
He cast [Battlefield of the Dead], and a large number of skeletons stood up.
They worked until late at night before returning to the passenger station.
Li Yanhong followed him back to the room.
......
The next morning.
Wu Heng returned to Rentam City, first going to the guild to take a look.
He had just sat in the lounge for a short while.
Knock knock~!
There was a knock on the door.
"Come in!"
The door opened a crack, and a staff member peeked in.
Respectfully, they said, "Captain, the Steward requests your presence."
Wu Heng squinted his eyes, having some guesses in his heart.
It seemed the results were out.
"Alright."
He left the lounge and headed straight to the Steward's study.
Pushing the door open, Steward Gomez revealed a gentle smile.
"Steward, you wanted to see me?"
"Yes, the appointment from headquarters has arrived. You're now a Deputy Steward."
