Chapter 239 - Chapter 239: I'll Help You Get It Back

Chapter 239: I'll Help You Get It Back

Deputy Steward?

Hearing Gomez's words, Wu Heng's heart stirred.

After so many days, there was finally a result, and he was appointed as a Deputy Steward.

Seeing his calm expression, Gomez curiously said, "You're not excited at all about becoming a Deputy Steward? At your age, there aren't many who can become Deputy Stewards based on merits."

Wu Heng showed an appropriate smile and said, "I'm still quite excited."

"Congratulations!" Gomez added.

Looking at the appointment letter in his hand, Gomez felt a bit emotional.

He had read Wu Heng's resume.

From an ordinary field agent in Blackstone Town to a squad captain in Rentam City, now, in just over a month, he was appointed as a Deputy Steward.

The speed of his growth was truly too fast.

If he hadn't been working under him and witnessed the amazing things he did, he might have thought there was some trick involved.

Astonishing!

"Thank you, and thanks to Steward's guidance," Wu Heng politely said.

"Your growth is so fast that I don't have time to guide you." Gomez handed over the appointment letter and continued, "Here's your appointment letter. Keep it safe. When you arrive at your post, hand it over to the new Steward. You can also receive your merit rewards there."

Place of appointment? New Steward?

Wasn't he staying in Rentam City?

"Place of appointment?"

"Yes, it's written here—the location is called Silver and Gold Island," Gomez said.

Wu Heng took the appointment letter and looked at it.

The upper part was the Steward's official appointment of the Deputy Steward; below was the place of appointment.

"Brilliant Sea—Silver and Gold Island."

Position: Deputy Steward, to assume office within 30 days.

They arranged for him to go somewhere so far away; he even had to go overseas.

Suddenly, Wu Heng felt that this appointment had become a burden.

Even though he only had half of Rentam City, it was enough for his stable development.

Plus, he was exchanging resources with the base in the zombie world.

His original plans were all set; suddenly being transferred elsewhere was hard to accept.

"Steward, can I apply to stay here?"

Gomez glanced at him and said, "Deputy Steward appointments aren't as simple as squad captain positions. Finding an available spot is already not easy; there's no room for picking and choosing."

Seeing Wu Heng's somewhat displeased expression, he continued to comfort him, "What's there to worry about? Just go out and explore first. When there's a chance, you can apply to transfer back."

Hearing this, Wu Heng felt a bit better.

He absolutely couldn't give up his identity with the guild.

It could save his life at critical moments.

According to Gomez, after a couple of years, he could apply to transfer back, or to a nearby city, so he could still take care of Rentam City.

Wu Heng nodded, put away the appointment letter, and continued to ask, "Steward, what about the others?"

"Duke will take over your position as squad captain. Marta and Gaul Bory didn't receive appointment letters, but their merits are recorded in their files. They'll have opportunities in the future." Gomez took out another appointment letter, "You can give this directly to Duke. From now on, you're no longer a member of Squad 12; the guild will announce it."

Duke became the captain.

He's only 14 years old—wow.

Marta and Gaul Bory didn't receive appointment letters; the guild probably had its own considerations.

Especially Gaul Bory—he had just joined the squad for two days and already had one second-level merit and two third-level merits. It might be seen as a deliberate arrangement.

Wu Heng took the appointment letter, "Then I'll be heading back."

Gomez nodded, "Go back and prepare. Let me know when you're leaving; I'll see you off then."

"Alright!" Wu Heng replied, opened the door, and left.

On his way back to the lounge,

He called over two staff members to gather the other squad members.

...

City Lord's Mansion.

In the hall, two figures sat.

One was the City Lord, 'Elno'.

The other was a burly man with brown hair and a beard, wearing a blue suit that bulged as if armor was underneath.

A maid poured wine for the two and was about to leave.

The burly man grabbed her, sliding his hand under her skirt.

The maid was startled but didn't dare to resist.

She looked pleadingly at the nearby City Lord, but Elno only glanced over and said nothing.

The burly man said directly, "So you're saying you gave up half the city because of a newly transferred squad captain?"

Elno sighed, his tone helpless, "What else could I do? Either give up the whole city or half of it. Doing this minimizes the loss."

"Ha! So, what are you planning next?"

"Help me get it back."

"You signed an agreement, and he's a guild captain. Do you expect me to kill him? Without a legitimate reason, how can I get it back?"

Elno opened his mouth but didn't know what to say.

In the current situation, there really wasn't a good solution.

Just as the two were silent,

Tap tap tap~!

Urgent footsteps sounded; a servant quickly walked in.

Elno's displeased expression became even uglier; he scolded angrily, "Why are you rushing? No manners at all."

The servant was frightened, immediately knelt, and said softly, "Sir, there's news from the guild."

"Oh? What news?"

The servant stood up, quickly stepped forward, and whispered a few words.

Elno's stern face instantly showed joy; he asked, "Really?"

"Yes, from the guild's news. Squad 12 is now led by that orc boy."

Elno immediately said, "Keep monitoring him closely. As soon as he plans to leave Rentam City, notify me immediately."

"Yes, sir." The servant quickly left.

The burly man opposite pulled the maid into his arms and gave an inquiring look, "What's up?"

"That Wu Heng has been transferred by the guild; he'll be leaving in a few days."

The man's eyes lit up, "Oh? Really?"

"Definitely true. Once he leaves, everything will be easy."

The man pondered for a moment and said, "Alright, arrange for my troops to enter the city. If he leaves, I'll help you reclaim half the city."

"If successful, I'll give you twenty percent of the annual profits."

"Deal!" The man stood up, patted the maid, "Come to my room."

...

Guild, squad lounge.

The three team members had returned.

Wu Heng first explained that he was being transferred.

Before he could say more, Duke shouted, "What? Captain, you're not becoming the Deputy Steward here? What about us?"

"From now on, you're the captain of Squad 12."

"Huh? I'm the captain? I can't do it!" Duke exclaimed again.

Gaul Bory sat beside him, covering his ears, and told him to sit down first, "Captain, where are you being transferred to?"

Wu Heng said, "Silver and Gold Island, over in the Brilliant Sea."

The three looked at each other; it seemed none of them had heard of that place.

In this world, transportation wasn't as developed as in modern times. Most places they hadn't heard of, let alone visited.

"Are you planning to go?" Gaul Bory continued to ask.

"Yes, the appointment letter has been issued; there's no choice."

Duke scratched his head, "Why not skip being a Deputy Steward and keep being our captain?"

Gaul Bory retorted, "Everyone wants to move up; who would step back?"

"Captain, I can't bear to see you go," Duke said.

"I'm being transferred, not dead. What's there to be reluctant about? You'll be the captain now. Lead everyone safely, and be careful during missions," Wu Heng advised.

Duke scratched his head again, "I can't do it. How about letting Marta be the captain?"

Wu Heng said, "Both of them have enough merits. After some time, they'll also become captains. No need for you to give up the position."

"Captain, do you have any secrets or insights? Can you write them down for me to memorize?"

"There's no secret; just improve your strength and don't take on tasks beyond your ability."

"But it's different when you're leading us."

They sat together and chatted for a while.

Wu Heng continued to remind them, "In the next few days, the guild's item rewards will arrive. Duke, don't forget to take everyone to collect them."

"Oh, okay."

Wu Heng stood up again and said, "Don't be so down. After all, it's a good thing. I'll treat everyone to a nice meal."

They nodded and followed him out.

The atmosphere was still a bit low.

...

When he returned home, it was near dusk.

He sat in the living room for a while.

The three maids returned one after another.

Seeing Wu Heng at home, they all smiled.

"Master!"

Wu Heng nodded. Seeing Minnie tying on an apron to cook, he said directly, "Minnie, wait a moment. I have something to discuss with you all."

"Oh."

Minnie went to pour water for everyone.

Andviel and Wen Mansa also sat down beside him.

Wu Heng said directly, "The guild's appointment letter has arrived; I'm now a Deputy Steward."

"Really? That's great."

"Master finally became a Deputy Steward."

"Congratulations, Master."

The three girls were delighted and didn't hold back their praise.

A Deputy Steward's position in the guild's hierarchy already held a certain status.

More power, and more attention from the guild.

Immediately, seeing Wu Heng's serious expression, they realized something was off and quieted down.

Wu Heng took out the appointment letter and continued, "But there's a change in location; it's not here. It's in a place called Silver and Gold Island."

Minnie and Andviel didn't show any change in expression; they didn't realize what it meant for a moment.

Wen Mansa's expression changed, and she said, "Master is leaving here?"

Hearing this, Minnie and Andviel realized that the appointment wasn't in Rentam City, meaning he was being transferred.

Then here...

Wu Heng nodded, "Yes, I have to assume office within a month."

This...

The three girls all frowned.

"What are your plans, Master?" Wen Mansa continued to ask.

Wu Heng took a deep breath and said, "What are your thoughts?"

There were only two choices.

One was to become a Deputy Steward, but he wouldn't be able to take care of Rentam City. Once he left, he probably couldn't keep half the city.

The other was to stay and be the city lord. Half the city was enough to maintain future life.

Plus, with the complement of the zombie world, he could be a local king. But without his guild identity, he'd be no different from the current city lord, 'Elno'.

Someday, if a more powerful force discovered this place, they might just take over.

The three girls frowned and pondered.

Wen Mansa spoke, "You can't give up the Deputy Steward identity. This identity allows you to gain more information and privileges, which a city lord can't compare with."

"Then what about Rentam City?" Andviel asked.

"That depends on Master!" Wen Mansa looked up.

Wu Heng leaned back on the sofa, met her gaze, and said, "Wen Mansa, you become the city lord."

"I want to go with you!"

"We don't know the situation on Silver and Gold Island yet. Maybe it's not a good place. I might apply to transfer back in two years. We can't abandon this place," Wu Heng explained.

"I'm not sure I can do it."

"I don't trust others; only leaving it to you makes me feel at ease."

Wen Mansa blushed, "I can only manage a gang; I might not handle such a big city well."

"It's okay; we'll plan before I leave."

"What if... what if I don't do well?" Wen Mansa asked anxiously.

"Then I'll come to get you, and we'll go to Silver and Gold Island together."

Wen Mansa lowered her head and thought silently for a while, finally agreeing, "Alright, I'll try my best."

"Wen Mansa is the most capable woman I've ever seen; you can definitely do it," Minnie said at this time.

"I'm also a bit envious of you, being able to go with him."

After discussing,

Minnie got up to make dinner.

Wu Heng said, "You all eat dinner; I ate with Duke and the others outside. I'm going out tonight; lock the door."

"Alright!"

After explaining, Wu Heng left directly.

...

Wu Heng walked out of the building.

Driving a tricycle, he left Rentam City.

After reaching a deserted place,

He took out the [Conductor's Hat] and put it on his head.

Woo~!

The whistle sounded, and the army-green train arrived.

With a clang, the train door opened.

Wu Heng walked in directly, picked up the itinerary sheet beside the door, and wrote 'Blackstone Town'.

The train door closed, and the train disappeared.
