Chapter 240: Who Is Better
Upon arriving at Blackstone Town, it was already dusk.
What would have been a four-day journey took only half an hour.
This ghost train is indeed a very handy artifact.
Gazing at the distant Blackstone Town.
Compared to Rentam City, it's truly much smaller.
As he approached the city walls, the guards cast scrutinizing glances.
Showing his guild credentials, the guards did not obstruct him and let him pass directly.
......
Guild, Steward's Study.
Knock knock knock~!
Gently knocking on the door, Slater's voice came from inside, "Come in!"
He opened the door and walked straight in.
Slater looked up and saw that it was Wu Heng entering. She was momentarily surprised, then delighted.
She quickly restrained her smile and said, "What brings you here?"
Wu Heng walked in, sat on the sofa beside her, poured himself a cup of tea, and said, "I missed you."
"Don't say such things." Slater quickly glanced at the door and then asked, "Is the 'Golden Cat' establishment completed? Didn't you say you could just write me a letter?"
As she spoke, Slater suddenly realized something and asked uncertainly, "Did your appointment come through? Otherwise, how do you have time to come over?"
This woman is really quick-witted.
Wu Heng took a sip of tea, smiled, and nodded, "Yes, the appointment letter has come; I'm now a Deputy Steward."
"Here to show off?" Slater raised an eyebrow.
"Not at all! The appointed location is called Silver and Gold Island; have you heard of it?"
Slater frowned slightly, pondering the location of Silver and Gold Island.
She took out a map from the drawer and carefully examined it, her expression growing increasingly grim.
Looking up at him, she asked as if to confirm, "Silver and Gold Island in the Glorious Sea?"
"Yes, sounds like it's an island somewhere in the sea."
Slater beckoned him over; Wu Heng stood up, walked over, and stood beside her.
Slater pointed to an island in the vast sea. "Silver and Gold Island."
The map was old-fashioned but clearly marked.
Surrounding Silver and Gold Island were many small, isolated islands, likely part of an archipelago.
"It's absurd to establish a branch in such a place," Wu Heng muttered.
Ignoring him, Slater continued, "Silver and Gold Island, a wealthy place at sea, located along major shipping routes, abundant in riches."
Standing beside her, Wu Heng placed his hand on her shoulder and asked, "Which country's territory is it? Do they reject necromancers?"
Slater picked up her teacup and then set it down, lightly swatting away his arm as she said, "They probably don't reject necromancers. As for the country... well, it's pirate territory."
Wu Heng was taken aback. "The guild is establishing branches on pirate territory?"
"Normally, they wouldn't, but since you're being transferred there, it means there's a branch."
"Unbelievable!"
Slater took a deep breath, her chest rising as she did. "What's with you? Why is every place you're transferred to so chaotic?"
Wu Heng defended himself, "I wanted to stay in Rentam City as a Deputy Steward; I don't know how I got assigned over there."
Slater sighed, frowned thoughtfully, and said, "A Steward's evaluation has a significant impact on subordinate transfers. Given the strength you've shown in Rentam City, if I were in charge, I'd also transfer you elsewhere—the farther, the better."
Wu Heng frowned, immediately understanding her point.
His abilities made Gomez feel pressured; keeping him in Rentam City as a Deputy Steward would be hard to manage.
Moreover, the Warhammer Party incident impacted Gomez even more.
The Steward had quietly left, and it was Wu Heng who returned to the guild to maintain order during that period.
Within the guild, staff members were noticeably more trusting and enthusiastic toward Wu Heng.
How could they possibly allow him to stay?
Even though Wu Heng hinted in his application that he wanted to remain in Rentam City, Gomez still decided to transfer him far away.
Even if there was no hostility toward Wu Heng, it reduced the perceived threat and pressure.
"Now that the appointment has been made, there's no other way," Wu Heng said.
Slater leaned against him and said softly, "It's okay. Since the guild has established a branch there and is transferring people, they must ensure personnel safety."
Wu Heng's hand around her shoulder naturally slid down. "Hearing you say that puts me at ease; it's just that leaving Rentam City, I'm still a bit worried about things there."
"Hmm~!" Slater let out a soft hum, looked down at his hand, and grabbed it. "Don't overdo it; you're wrinkling my clothes. So, what are your plans for Rentam City?"
"I'm going to support a subordinate to manage it for me. I'll need you to take extra care of the 'Golden Cat' as well."
Slater glanced up at him. "A woman?"
"Yes! Back when I was cleaning up the gang members, I signed a contract with a maid; she's completely trustworthy."
Slater sneered slightly and shook off his hand.
Wu Heng leaned closer and whispered in her ear, "What? Jealous? You're still the one I care about most."
Slater's face flushed even more.
Just as she was about to speak, they heard bouncy footsteps approaching the door.
Slater's expression changed; she quickly pushed him under the desk.
At that moment, the door swung open, and Yuli bounced in, plopping down on the sofa. "Auntie, when are we going home? Huh~? Is it hot today? Your face is so red."
Slater tugged at her collar. "I don't know why; I feel quite warm today."
"Auntie, when are we going back to Rentam City? There's nothing interesting here."
Slater raised an eyebrow. "All you think about is having fun. Wu Heng has become a Deputy Steward, and you're still a team member without a single merit."
"What? His appointment came through? When did you get the news?" Yuli leaned forward curiously.
"Given the timing, it should have come by now," Slater said, subconsciously pressing her legs together.
"Oh!" Yuli took a candy from her small bag, unwrapped it, and popped it into her mouth. "Are we going home together?"
Slater lifted her gaze from under the desk and said, "You go back first; I'll return after I'm done here."
"Can't you finish tomorrow?"
"Off you go! Stop bothering me here."
Yuli pouted, put her hands behind her back, and left the study.
"Close the door."
"Okay!" Yuli turned back and closed the door.
......
After Yuli left, Wu Heng emerged from under the desk.
He wrapped his arm around Slater's waist, pulled her up from the seat, and kissed her passionately.
Slater resisted slightly but soon reciprocated.
After kissing for a while and noticing that their clothing was becoming disheveled, she turned her head and said, "Here again? There are people on duty tonight; let's go somewhere else."
Wu Heng didn't want to damage Slater's reputation in the city.
"Then where should we go?"
"Put your clothes on and follow me!"
As dusk settled, the two left the guild and headed directly to a mansion.
Slater took out a key, opened the door, and walked in.
Wu Heng followed behind. "Is this your house?"
"It's yours; Yazd left it for you. You're such a fool."
As the door closed, Wu Heng picked her up. "Who's the fool now?"
"The bedroom is over there."
Slater wrapped herself around him, kissing as they stumbled into the bedroom.
They fell onto the bed together.
Using her strength, Slater pressed him onto the bedding, picked up a ribbon nearby, and covered his eyes. "Don't move."
She then slowly began to remove her own clothes and his armored robe.
Wearing a black corset, she climbed onto the bed.
The ribbon wasn't entirely opaque; he could faintly see her fair, smooth curves, undulating as she moved.
Her leaning movements put pressure on the corset; the laces at the front grew increasingly tight.
She playfully asked a couple of questions, pretending to be unaware of what was happening.
Wu Heng felt a gentle weight as she sat on his waist.
Until late into the night, the two leaned against each other.
Slater looked up and said, "Tell me, whom are you planning to entrust the city to? How did you meet her?"
Wu Heng was momentarily taken aback. She still remembered that.
After a brief thought, he recounted how they met and the process of signing the contract.
"Who's better, me or her?"
Even if his emotional intelligence was low, Wu Heng knew how to answer. "You're better—in looks, figure, and your status. Why ask? Don't you know how charming you are?"
"At least you have some sense."
Wu Heng smiled. "Don't compare yourself to others; you're unique."
Slightly embarrassed, Slater playfully hit him and continued, "I'll make preparations. In the next couple of days, I'll bring people over. Before you leave, we'll settle everything."
"Alright."
They chatted for a while and, under each other's tender touches, embraced again.
......
The next morning.
Both of them rose early.
After getting ready, Slater headed directly to the guild.
Wu Heng also left the town, used the train, and returned to Rentam City.
Back at his residence, the maids were not home.
Wu Heng summoned the skeletons 'Skull -Crusher,' 'Blood Axe,' and a few others who were on standby the previous night. Opening the realm gate, they entered together.
Zombie World.
As he descended the stairs, Li Yanhong approached from a distance.
Wu Heng asked, "Did you check over at Bifeng Shopping Plaza?"
"I had people survey along the way. The closer we get, the more zombies there are. We can't confirm the situation on-site yet," Li Yanhong replied.
"Have the convoy get ready; we'll head over today."
Given his impending transfer, he needed to expedite certain plans.
"Understood!"
Li Yanhong agreed and quickly went to make preparations.
