Chapter 65 - Chapter 64: An Advancement in the Shadows

Another month passed in an isolated location, deep within an impenetrable jungle. A manor stood there, surrounded by a large electric fence, symbolizing enhanced security. Inside, beneath the metal floor, footsteps echoed in a corridor, catching the attention of Stella, with her green hair, and Gaïus, with his purple hair.

Gaïus and Stella bowed in respect to Doctor Grijan, who had just returned. Their gesture was tinged with reserve, as if they sensed something was amiss.

"Where are we?" Gaïus asked, his tone laced with concern. "It's been over four months since we've been waiting, hoping for good results, especially since we've let another month pass."

Doctor Grijan furrowed his brows and replied nervously, his face tense with irritation:

"How? It's been several years since we've been preparing for this, and you dare say that? What's wrong with you, Gaïus?"

Gaïus sighed and spoke more sincerely, his gaze lowered:

"I want to abandon this project; I'm no longer fully invested."

Doctor Grijan stroked his beard and replied firmly, his tone icy:

"Pffft, what a fool you are! We're closer than ever to the project's finality, and you dare say that? Anyway, I knew you would abandon it eventually."

Doctor Grijan snapped his fingers, and two terrifying creatures appeared behind Gaïus, who was terrified along with Stella. The muscular and imposing creatures, powerful mutants, immobilized Gaïus with ease.

"What are you going to do to me?" Gaïus asked, his voice trembling with fear.

Doctor Grijan smiled ominously, his gaze icy:

"You will be our greatest creation after me. Unfortunately, your consciousness will be inhabited by a creature straight from hell. I'm willing to ally even with the devil to kill the Satsujin Otoko."

Stella, intrigued and terrified, asked Doctor Grijan, her voice barely audible:

"I'd like to know why you want so much to eradicate the Satsujin Otoko to the point of wanting to decimate the last survivors entirely."

Doctor Grijan chuckled, his laughter icy:

"Hahahaha... Listen well, little Stella. You know the saying: killing someone makes you a criminal, but killing an enemy in everyone's eyes..."

Grijan clenched his fist and said with determination, his gaze burning:

"...will make me a hero."

Stella swallowed, her face pale with fear.

"So, it's to be perceived as a hero in everyone's eyes that you decided to eradicate an entire clan?"

Gaïus responded in turn, his tone filled with anger:

"The Satsujin Otoko aren't bad, at least not the current ones. They're just victims of a judgmental error. Killing them will indeed make you a criminal."

Doctor Grijan let out a sarcastic laugh, his face twisted in contempt:

"Hahahahaha... Haaaahahahaha!"

Then he looked at Gaïus and replied, his tone icy:

"I knew it; it's when you met that little bastard Sakolomé Satsujin Otoko..."

Grijan recalled the day he interrogated Salomé and wanted to break her psychologically, but Sakolomé intervened.

"That little scoundrel won't lose anything by waiting. Apparently, he corrupted you, Gaïus, and you corrupted Stella."

The doctor's gaze turned to Stella:

"This slut only follows your orders. She quickly gave in."

Gaïus:

"You're truly vile. How could I have been stupid enough to believe you were a great man? You're just a mentally ill person who only needs to satisfy your interests and elevate your legend in the eyes of the world."

Doctor Grijan turned around and said, his tone icy:

"Am I really evil? No, I don't think so. I'm just human. Why do I say that? Because evil depends on each person's perception."

He looked at Gaïus with an amused gaze:

"The eradication project is so close. You will be the first to kill them."

Gaïus's eyes widened in terror.

Stella (trembling): What are you going to do to him?

Grijan: You'll see. Besides, it's going to happen now. I hope you enjoyed living, because it's over now. Bring them!

Ordered Doctor Grijan to the mutants, who suddenly lifted Gaïus and Stella and took them down a corridor. Terrified, they screamed, intrigued about what could happen to them, their cries echoing in a dark and terrifying corridor.

Meanwhile, Doctor Grijan walked to a room, pressed some buttons, and entered. It was a closed, empty, and cramped room where the air was heavy with secrets.

Doctor Grijan stood upright, closed his eyes, and concentrated:

"You can come to me now."

A mass of smoke accumulated around him, almost suffocating Doctor Grijan. Then a smoky silhouette of a strange creature with red eyes appeared, its malicious smile suggesting its danger.

"Why did you summon me this time? You know our contract is nearing its end," said the creature, still with its malicious smile.

Doctor Grijan sighed and replied, his tone tinged with resignation:

"Indeed, and I intend to use the time I have left. How much time do I really have with you?"

"I thought you knew. We have twelve years left, but it's nothing. I won't miss you much. I've been with you for almost your entire life. Look at yourself now; you're just an old man."

Grijan (smiling): No matter. I've used you intelligently all this time. I saved the best for the end anyway.

"I wonder why it took so long to eliminate the Satsujin Otoko when, with you, I only needed to say a word!"

Grijan: Because I want to do it myself. And I've noticed that the more important the wish, the faster our time together decreases. If I asked you to kill people, I believe one life would cost more than ten years of our contract. Given the number of Satsujin Otoko remaining, you wouldn't even be able to finish the task, and all our time would be wasted.

The ghostly creature chuckled:

"Hahahaha, you're indeed very intelligent. Even my manipulation hasn't had much effect on you. I'd love to spend all my time watching you and participating. Too bad."

Grijan: Listen, Lucifer, I have a big request for you.

The ghostly silhouette looked at Doctor Grijan, still as terrifying:

"I want you to infuse the blood and consciousness of the demon into Gaïus and me. As a sacrifice, we offer you Stella. Devour her as you please; I couldn't care less!"

The silhouette smiled and said:

"Agreed!"

Outside, atrocious screams echoed in that abandoned place, Stella's cry and the sound of flesh being torn apart by a creature devouring her. Doctor Grijan smiled at the spectacle, his face distorted by macabre joy.

Lucifer returned to him with the same smile:

"It's done!"

Grijan: Did she taste good?

"It was a bit bitter, but not bad. I gave Gaïus the demon's consciousness and blood. He's in a deep sleep right now, and when he wakes up, he'll be someone else. Now, it's your turn to have the demon's blood and consciousness. But to please you, I won't make the demon's consciousness fully control you. You will still be in control of your body and can use demonic supernatural powers by your own will. Isn't that fabulous?"

Doctor Grijan watched as his body transformed under the sound of cracking bones. His eyes turned red, his skin pale, his hair changed from white to a light blue, and his teeth became long and sharp. He completed his transformation, wiping his mouth.

He wiped it and let out a malicious smile, feeling his power multiplied:

"It's clear I won't be perceived as the old Grijan with this new body, but so be it. I'm ready to get serious."

Grijan looked at Lucifer and said with determination:

"I think our contract will end here. I want you to eliminate Niyus Satsujin Otoko!"

The ghostly silhouette replied:

"Hahahahaha, for someone of his level, that must be worth thirty years of life. But you only have ten years left in our contract. I'm not in a position to take life from you now, as you've become immortal. However, you should give me another gift, and then even our contract will last eternally as long as your life does."

Doctor Grijan, surprised by this potential offer, replied hastily:

"What is the gift?"

The silhouette smiled mischievously:

"Your being. If you give me your being, we will be bound until the end of time. Thanks to me, you have a life extending to your soul, which will allow you to change your soul and no longer be affected by inferior states. You can even solidify it so that even if your soul is attacked, you won't feel anything. As a result, your soul has become too small, because you are your soul yourself now. Your soul no longer matters. Only your being can make me envious, and then I will serve you for eternity."

Grijan: It's true that, currently, I see things differently. What will happen to me if I give you my being?

"There will be practically no change. I can assure you."

Doctor Grijan reflected for a moment and said:

"If I can have you for eternity, I would become a god. It's a deal."

The silhouette chuckled again:

"Hahaha... Given that we've already signed a pact, I'll just need to extend it and serve you."

A reddish aura appeared around Doctor Grijan, then suddenly disappeared. He collapsed on the floor, completely exhausted and sweating profusely.

Grijan (breathless): What's happening to me?

Lucifer tried to reassure him:

"I've taken your being. It's just fatigue from that. A little rest and everything will be fine."

Doctor Grijan sat on the floor, still breathless, under Lucifer's gaze.

"Alright. Now, consider Niyus Satsujin Otoko as dead. He's living his final moments before his death!"

The ghostly silhouette disappeared, leaving Doctor Grijan on the floor, laughing.

Grijan: Hahahahaha!!!
