At the hospital entrance, the sound of sirens blared constantly.
As police cars arrived at the scene, officers with good eyesight immediately noticed the red and blue figure on the streetlight.
"Oh, it's Spider-Man! He finally showed up!"
"It's him!"
"Thank goodness, it'll be a lot easier for us this time."
The officers were greatly encouraged, and George even refrained from his usual look of disdain toward Spider-Man.
Because his daughter, Gwen, was in this hospital and had been infected by the Spider Virus.
In other words, Gwen was also a Spider-Man.
Although she had lost her powers, the fact that she had once been a Spider-Man remained true.
It was difficult for George to speak ill of Spider-Man.
But that didn't mean he had suddenly taken a liking to the guy.
"What are you all standing around for? Get in there and rescue those people."
He snorted, and the officers immediately adjusted their attitudes, grabbing their weapons and rushing into the chaotic hospital.
"Ah! Help me!!"
"Run!"
"A monster! A monster!!"
In the chaos, George led a group of officers against the flow of people and headed upstairs, while other officers focused on evacuating the citizens.
"Hurry, get out of here."
"This way, quickly."
"Boom!!"
In the next moment, the ceiling above everyone's heads shattered with a loud crash, and debris rained down from above, causing even more terrified screams.
"Ah!"
"It's coming!"
"Screech!!"
A hideous humanoid spider monster crashed down among the people, followed by a green lizard pouncing down.
"Gotcha! Hahaha."
Dr. Curt Connors' voice was chilling as he grinned evilly and raised his claws, ripping the spider monster's head off.
Under the terrified gaze of the people, he leaned over and started tearing into the monster's body, chewing on the flesh with sickening sounds that made everyone's scalp go numb.
"Oh, shit! This monster is eating another monster!"
"Ugh!"
"Run!!"
The black blood of the spider monster splattered everywhere as Dr. Connors stood up, licking his lips with a satisfied, twisted grin.
Having eaten the monster's flesh, the pain in his body finally subsided.
"Shhh!"
Suddenly, an explosion of webbing descended from above, enveloping him, startling Dr. Connors.
"Spider-Man!"
"Hey, it's me, your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. I can be your friendly neighbor too."
Hearing the voice, Dr. Connors looked up at the ceiling hole, where a pair of pale blue eyes glowed slightly.
"Don't mess with me, or I'll tear you apart!" Dr. Connors threatened, tearing the webbing from his body as he spoke.
Charlie shrugged, "I could stay out of it, but you need to tell me why you're eating something so disgusting."
"This has nothing to do with you!"
Dr. Connors snorted, throwing the mangled corpse at Charlie.
"Bang!"
The black blood splattered across the ceiling, and, taking advantage of Spider-Man's obstructed view, Dr. Connors crawled out of the hospital on all fours.
"Stop right there, you monster!"
The officers at the entrance screamed in panic and fired their guns.
"Bang bang bang!"
Gunfire erupted, but Dr. Connors was unfazed by the bullets. The bullets embedded themselves in his muscles, stopped by his tough skin that healed almost immediately.
"Get out of my way!"
As the gunfire grew more intense, Dr. Connors became more irritable. He turned around, whipping his long tail, and lifted a motorcycle to throw at the officers.
"Shhh!"
Just then, a web that glowed in red and blue shot out from the bushes by the entrance, landing directly on Dr. Connors' back.
"Boom!!"
In an instant, a burst of magical energy exploded, propelling Dr. Connors' body straight back into the wall.
"What the hell?!"
The fearsome Lizard Man slid to the corner, enveloped in energy, only to see a strange spider leap out of the bushes.
"Shhh~~"
The next moment, a red and blue figure swung on the web and landed on the ground, with the small spider landing on Charlie's shoulder.
"It's Spider-Man!"
The onlookers gasped, and the officers quickly put away their weapons and started evacuating the surrounding citizens.
They instinctively left the dangerous enemy to Spider-Man.
Charlie patted the little spider on his shoulder and addressed Dr. Connors.
"Sorry, I actually have a pet I hadn't gotten the chance to tell you about."
"Chirp chirp chirp."
The little spider seemed eager to prove its existence and turned, shaking its abdomen and taunting Dr. Connors.
Seeing this, Dr. Connors stood up, brushing the rubble off his chest, his sinister face darkening.
"Damned Spider-Man, if you're going to make trouble, congratulations, you've got more trouble now."
Charlie spread his hands, "I just want to find you a nice retirement home. All you need to do is come with me."
"Should I thank you for that?"
Dr. Connors glanced upstairs, baring his fangs in a sinister grin.
"You should be more worried about the others."
"What?"
Charlie looked up instinctively, just as another humanoid spider monster smashed through the window, scaling the exterior wall.
"Hmm?"
He frowned slightly and shook his shoulder. The little spider immediately fired a web and swung towards the high-rise.
"Shhh~"
"Boom!!"
The magical web exploded, and the spider monster climbing the wall screamed, falling to the ground as the magic-infused skin quickly dissolved, leaving a gruesome mess.
Seeing this, Charlie became pensive.
The little spider had been summoned using explosive machinery as the primary material, giving it extra damage against regular mutants with mutated cells.
However, when it came to a Lizard-like mutation like Dr. Connors, the little spider's magical energy didn't do much damage.
Dr. Connors noticed how easily the spider monsters were defeated by the little spider, and his face changed slightly.
But his goal wasn't to fight Spider-Man to the death this time.
He sneered, "The mutated cells left in those fake Spider-Men are starting to take effect. Spider-Man, you'll be busy next."
With that, he leapt onto the wall, and more humanoid spider monsters appeared in Charlie's line of sight.
"Alright, I guess I am busy, so I have no time for you."
Charlie shook his head and gave up the chase, shooting webs to latch onto empty space.
"Boom!!"
Like a slingshot, Charlie's body shot forward like a missile, accurately striking one of the spider monsters.
"Screech!"
"Bang!"
As the spider monster let out a shrill cry, black blood splattered down, and the monster plummeted to the ground.
"Chirp chirp chirp."
The little spider on the ground quickly leaped onto the injured spider monster, sinking its small fangs into the monster's skin.
"Ah!!"
"Chirp chirp chirp."
As the spider monster's screams weakened, the magical glow on the little spider grew brighter. Within seconds, the spider monster had reverted to its human form.
Soon, Charlie was throwing down more spider monsters, and the little spider repeated its process of extracting the mutated cells.
Seeing this, Charlie gave his pet a thumbs-up.
With a pet that could counteract the mutated spiders, his job got a lot easier.
Especially since the little spider had the ability to absorb mutated cells—an unexpected bonus.
"Boom~"
Suddenly, there was a roar of fire in the sky, and Harry arrived on his flying glider.
"Hey, my friend, there's a big lizard over there for me to handle."
"Wait, don't go after him just yet."
Charlie stopped Harry from approaching Dr. Connors without hesitation.
Harry hadn't injected the gene serum yet; he was still physically just a normal human.
Dr. Connors, on the other hand, was tough-skinned, and pumpkin bombs wouldn't do much damage.
If Dr. Connors got the upper hand, the next time Charlie saw Harry might be in the resurrection match.
"There should be more monsters around here; let's take care of them first," Charlie said.
Harry nodded and agreed, "Got it."
With that, he flew into the hospital.
"Harry, we're here!"
At the hospital room door, a weakened Mary Jane supported Gwen as they squeezed through the crowd.
Seeing the green figure flying by, she called out loudly.
"Hmm?"
The glider circled around a concrete pillar and came to a stop in front of Mary Jane. "I almost forgot about you two. Don't worry, everything's okay."
Harry reassured them, but a chilling roar erupted from the room next door.
"Boom!"
The door shattered, and a terrifying monster lunged at a passing patient.
"Screech!!"
"Ah! Help..."
"Splurt!!"
Blood splattered as the spider monster eagerly devoured flesh.
The sight left Mary Jane pale, and Gwen was struggling to suppress her urge to vomit.
Seeing that the monster hadn't noticed them, Harry signaled with his eyes for the three to back away slowly.
Just as they were about to move out of sight, a scream erupted from behind them.
"Ah! What a terrifying monster!"
"Shhh!"
They all turned around, motioning for Ned, who had suddenly appeared, to shut up.
But it was too late.
"Screech!!"
The spider monster turned its head, staring straight at the four with eerie eyes.
"Why are you standing there?! Run!!" Ned's scream nearly pierced their eardrums.
His scream also drew the nearby spider monsters.
"Screech!"
Shadows flickered, and several spider monsters blocked their paths.
"Damned big mouth," Harry glared at Ned.
Ned looked innocent, "Sorry, I was too scared."
With the spider monsters lunging at them, Harry no longer had time to blame Ned.
"Get down!"
"Boom!!"
Several pumpkin bombs flew out, firelight erupting, and the heatwave knocked down the attacking spider monsters. Ned, who had fallen to the ground, screamed again.
"Oh, my butt!!"
A piece of debris had lodged in his backside, reopening an old wound and causing it to bleed.
"Sorry, you were kind of close, but hey, we're alright."
Harry took the opportunity to lead Mary Jane and Gwen away from the scene.
Behind them, Ned hobbled along, clutching his rear.
"Wait for me—ouch—hurts... hurts..."
"Look out!"
Another spider monster attacked, but Charlie swung down, delivering a flying kick to Ned's rear end, preventing him from being torn apart by the monster.
"Oh!!! I'm dying!!!"
Ned slid across the ground to Harry and the others, his face acting as brakes as he lost the will to live.
Harry, hearing Spider-Man's voice, was overjoyed.
"We're saved."
In narrow spaces, he could hardly make use of his advantages.
It was good that Spider-Man had arrived.
"Oh, my hero," Mary Jane cupped her face in her hands, her eyes filled with admiration.
Gwen was puzzled at the sight, "Wasn't your hero Charlie?"
Mary Jane pouted, "Don't mention that guy. He hasn't even come to see me yet.
And the worst part is, he sent you flowers. I'm never talking to him again."
Hearing this, Harry turned his head away guiltily, avoiding comment.
Nearby, the sound of punches echoed as Spider-Man tore through the wall, sending spider monsters crashing into it, their screams ringing out.
"Chirp chirp chirp."
As the little spider hopped onto each downed monster, draining the mutated cells, they soon reverted to their human forms.
After finishing, Charlie dusted off his hands.
He looked at Harry and the others, "You all okay? Alright, I see you're alive."
"No, I'm about to die," Ned groaned from the ground, raising his hand.
"Almost dying is not the same as dying," Charlie said, before shooting a colorful web over Ned's wound, "There, the bleeding's stopped."
"Thank you, Spider-Man," Ned said gratefully, while Harry and the others, seeing the vividly colorful web plastered to Ned's backside, turned away in silence.
They wanted to laugh, but that seemed rude.
"How are you all doing?"
Soon, Carter and others arrived, with black splatters on their clothes—they had obviously taken down many spider monsters.
Natasha touched her earpiece, "Coulson reports there shouldn't be any more monsters nearby."
"Who said that?"
Without looking back, Clint fired an arrow into the ceiling, striking a spider monster.
"Screech~"
The monster fell, howling, and the little spider quickly leapt over to absorb its mutated cells.
Seeing the monster revert to human form before their eyes, Carter and the others were surprised but didn't ask questions.
Soon, Charlie motioned to the little spider.
"Chirp chirp chirp."
He walked over to Mary Jane, holding the little spider in his hand. "Hand out."
"What?" Mary Jane looked confused.
Charlie explained, "These monsters mutated from people like you. I suspect you could transform into one soon."
"What?" Mary Jane's face turned pale. Before she could ask more, the little spider climbed onto her shoulder.
"Chomp!"
Its small fangs broke through her skin, and Mary Jane struggled.
"No..."
"Take a deep breath. Pain is normal."
Charlie held her steady.
Mary Jane blinked, "It actually doesn't hurt that much."
"Then why scream?"
"Instinct."
After three seconds, the little spider hopped onto Gwen's palm.
Gwen didn't resist, letting the little spider bite her finger.
"Buzz~"
Magical energy pulsed from the little spider, and Gwen felt something being pulled from her body, though otherwise felt no major discomfort.
"Alright, all done."
Charlie put the little spider back on his head.
Seeing this, Carter stepped forward, "If your suspicion is right, then the other infected must also be about to turn."
Charlie nodded, handing the little spider to Harry. "The rest of the infected are yours."
"No problem."
Harry wiped his hands, eagerly cupping the little spider in both hands.
"Little cutie, be good now. I'm your master's best friend, so don't bite me."
Mary Jane commented from the side, "I thought Charlie was your best friend?"
Harry waved it off, "Just a figure of speech, don't mind it."
Mary Jane: "..."
As Harry took the little spider away, Carter frowned.
"Who knew those people still had mutant cells in them? If they're lucky and don't transform, they might regain their powers soon."
"Or it could be because they had fewer mutant cells left, and that's why they transformed," Charlie speculated.
Everyone was stunned by this.
What kind of anti-climax is that?
