[ SHOHEI NARA ]
The sudden, synchronized shattering of every crystal chandelier in the ballroom threw the room into pitch-black darkness. Shouts of panic and the chaotic shuffling of hundreds of terrified nobles instantly drowned out the elegant music of the string quartet.
Through the dense gloom, my trained eyes locked instantly onto our client. A massive, scar-faced ninja materialized out of thin air, violently striking Tenka into unconsciousness before tossing her limp body over his broad shoulder.
"Not on my watch," I muttered to myself, dropping into a low crouch. I quickly formed the signature hand seal of my clan, sending my shadow surging across the polished marble floor toward the fleeing abductor.
Before my shadow could make contact with his boots, a sudden, freezing spike of killing intent flared directly behind my neck. An unseen blade whistled through the darkness, aimed perfectly to decapitate me from behind.
Sensing the lethal danger at the absolute last microsecond, I aborted my shadow technique and spun on my heel. I raised my chakra-infused trench knives, catching the incoming blade with a shower of brilliant, white-hot sparks.
The sheer force of the ambush vibrated violently up my arms, but I didn't give my assailant a chance to adjust his grip. Channelling raw physical power into my right leg, I delivered a brutal, snap kick straight into his sternum.
Bam!
The heavy blow connected cleanly, forcing a muffled grunt from the attacker and pushing him back a fraction of an inch. I didn't waste the opening. Silently executing the Body Flicker Jutsu, I vanished from his sight.
Fwoosh!
I reappeared instantly behind him, grabbing the collar of his tactical vest before he could regain his footing. With a powerful surge of chakra, I dragged him along with me through a nearby window, utilizing a sequence of rapid Shunshin bursts to displace us to a completely separate, isolated location to fight.
We crashed down onto a wide, deserted stone terrace overlooking the dark sea, far away from the panicking crowds of the main gala. The cool coastal breeze whipped against my face as we both skidded backward to create distance.
As we stood our ground, the strain of the sudden movement caused our respective Transformation Jutsu to completely dissolve.

The heavy samurai armour I had been wearing melted away into a cloud of white smoke, revealing my standard Leaf flak jacket.
Across from me, the smoke cleared around my assailant to reveal a towering, imposing figure clutching a massive, heavy sword. It was exactly who I feared.
"Takezo.." I said, my voice dropping into its usual lazy drone, though my muscles were wound tighter than a coiled spring.
"I figured you wouldn't stay away for long."
"You Nara men are always so troublesome. " Takezo replied coldly, adjusting his grip on the hilt of his legendary blade.
"But your clever tricks won't save the girl tonight."
Without another word, Takezo initiated his assault, closing the distance between us so fast he seemed to skip the physical space entirely. He went on the offensive with terrifying aggression, unleashing a relentless torrent of heavy, blinding slashes.
I was immediately forced onto the absolute defensive. The sheer weight of his attacks was staggering; every time my trench knives blocked his sword, the shockwave rattled the bones in my forearms. I ducked, weaved, and parried frantically, completely unable to find a single opening to counterattack.
He swung a vicious horizontal arc aimed at my midsection. I leaped backward, the tip of his steel cleanly slicing through the front of my vest but thankfully missing my flesh.
Realizing I couldn't sustain this purely defensive dance for long, I decided to play a high-stakes psychological game. I deliberately overextended my posture, dropping into a deep stance and flaring my chakra aggressively as I brought my hands together into a familiar seal.
"Shadow Possession Jutsu!" I roared, pushing a wave of deceptive chakra along the stone tiles.
The pump fake worked flawlessly. Recognizing the lethal threat of my clan's binding technique, Takezo violently halted his forward momentum, leaping high into the air and backward to entirely evade the trajectory of my non-existent shadow.
"Got you," I whispered, a smirk breaking across my face.
The moment his feet left the ground, he lost his mobility. I instantly broke the fake seal, my fingers blurring into a completely different, rapid sequence of hand signs required for a summoning contract.
Takezo noticed the sudden shift in my hand seals while suspended mid-air, his eyes narrowing sharply in genuine alarm. Realizing he had been completely outplayed, he aggressively threw his weight forward, desperately driving his sword toward me in a falling plunge to disrupt my jutsu.
But he was too late. I slammed my open palm against the stone terrace just as a massive, towering shadow expanded beneath me.
"Summoning Jutsu!" I yelled.
Right from the depths of my undulating shadow, a massive, muscular form erupted with a deafening, earth-shaking roar. Kuro, my giant defense bear, materialized directly in front of me, his thick black fur absorbing the moonlight.
Kuro didn't hesitate for a single second. He raised a massive, armoured paw and swiped violently at the descending swordsman, the sheer kinetic force of the strike cutting through the air like a cannonball.
Faced with a massive apex predator blocking his path, Takezo was forced to abandon his lethal plunge. He crossed his heavy blade in front of his chest to absorb the impact, the brute force of Kuro's swipe blasting him backward across the terrace.
Takezo skidded to a halt near the edge of the stone balcony, panting slightly as he kept his distance, his cold eyes calculating the new two-on-one dynamic of the battlefield.
"Kuro, keep him busy!" I commanded, reaching into my tactical pouch and pulling out a handful of shuriken.
I launched a rapid volley of the spinning projectiles directly at his torso, scattering them in a wide, unpredictable pattern to restrict his movement.
Takezo scoffed at the basic projectile attack, tilting his head and shifting his torso by mere inches to let the sharp steel whistle harmlessly past his skin.
However, he failed to notice that one specific "shuriken" in the center of the volley was slightly thicker, carrying a tightly rolled ball of highly explosive paper bombs in disguise.
The moment the disguised projectile reached his blind spot, I snapped my fingers, igniting the primary tag. A massive, fiery explosion ripped through the stone terrace, engulfing Takizo in a blinding flash of smoke and debris.
But an underground legend doesn't fall for a basic explosive trap. Before the smoke could even begin to clear, Takezo utilized a brilliant burst of the Body Flicker Jutsu, completely bypassing the blast zone to blitz straight toward my position.
He materialized directly in front of me, his sword raised high to split me in two. But I wasn't standing alone. Kuro was already moving, dropping his massive weight from above like an avalanche.
As Takezo swung his blade downward at me, Kuro pounced from his flank, his razor-sharp claws tearing ruthlessly across the swordsman's exposed back.
A sickening tear of flesh echoed over the balcony as Kuro's massive claws left a deep, bleeding gash completely across Takezo's muscular back.
Yet, to my absolute horror, the monster didn't even flinch. Driven by pure, unadulterated willpower and battle hardening, Takezo completely endured the agonizing pain of the mauling, refusing to let it halt his own swing.
"Die, Nara!" he roared, adjusting his angle mid-swing.
The heavy steel of his sword came crashing down, slicing diagonally across my chest with terrifying precision.
Swish!
Rip!
The blade tore through my flak jacket, carving a deep, ragged gash straight across my torso down to the top of my stomach.
Splat!
A heavy spray of crimson painted the stone tiles as a sharp, blinding agony erupted across my entire chest, the sheer force of the cut nearly driving me to my knees.
Knowing a follow-up strike would be completely fatal, I forced my failing legs to move, instantly executing a frantic Shunshin to escape his immediate reach.
Simultaneously, Takezo used his own remaining momentum to flicker backward, his boots skidding across the stone as his deep back wound began to heavily pour blood onto the terrace.
We both stood ten paces apart, heavily panting as the cool night breeze washed over our fresh, severe injuries. Blood dripped rapidly from my chest, pooling at my feet, while Takezo gripped his sword tightly, his breath ragged as he stared me down.
