[ SHOHEI POV ]
The clash of our blades echoed through the roof of the terrace, a relentless rhythm of steel ringing out in the night. Every strike I threw was met with a perfect parry, and every counterattack Takezo launched, I barely managed to deflect.
We were locked in a deadly dance, moving across the roof in a blur of sparks and shadows.
It was an entirely even match, a true test of endurance and skill that pushed my body to its absolute limits.
I gritted my teeth, pushing a surge of chakra into my legs just to match his blistering speed.
Takezo was incredibly fast, his movements perfectly calculated and devoid of any wasted energy.
"You fight well." Takezo said.
His voice was terrifyingly calm, there was no hint of heavy exertion that I expected him to have from our violent clashes.
"Most opponents would have lost their heads within the first three seconds" he added, a dark amusement threading through his words.
"I could say the same for you." I replied, twisting my wrist sharply to deflect a lethal thrust aimed directly at my throat.
"But I'm not planning on losing my head today."
Our weapons locked again, the screeching of metal echoing into the night as we pushed against each other in a test of pure strength.
For a brief second, I looked into his eyes, searching for a tell, a weakness, or even a flicker of humanity.
Instead, I saw nothing but cold determination.
He shoved me back with a sudden, burst of raw power that sent a shockwave up my arms.
I slid across the dirt, digging my heels in to stabilize myself, only to watch his demeanour shift entirely.
"This warmup is over." Takezo declared.
The relaxed, almost casual way he had held his sword vanished in an instant, replaced by a suffocating, heavy bloodlust that made the air feel thick.
He shifted his footing, lowering his center of gravity into a highly unorthodox stance.
The blade of his katana was held perfectly parallel to the ground, steady as a rock, not wavering by even a fraction of an inch.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I felt a cold sweat break out on the back of my neck.
I had heard the dark rumours circulating in the underworld about his terrifying swordsmanship.
Takezo the Unrivaled, they called him.
It wasn't just a title born of arrogance or exaggeration; it was a moniker earned through a mountain of corpses, built upon a technique no one else in the shinobi world knew. And a testament to the sheer absurdity of this technique.
[ TAKEZO ASAUCHI]
"Harusumi-ryū (Clear Spring Style)" I whispered into the quiet night.
My voice carried clearly across the battlefield, a death knell for the man who had managed to entertain me thus far.
He was a talented lad, but talent meant absolutely nothing in the face of my unyielding mastery.
Before he could even brace himself, I vanished from his line of sight, pushing my speed to its absolute peak.
Fwoosh!
The air itself seemed to slice open as I closed the distance instantly to begin my true offensive.
I initiated the dreaded Harumi Katas, the foundational pillars of the style I had forged in blood.
First came Shoyo.
It was a blistering flurry of pinpoint strikes; each one aimed meticulously at the lad's vital organs.
He frantically backpedalled, his eyes wide with shock as his kunai's barely caught the afterimages of my blade.
Then, without a moment's hesitation, I transitioned smoothly into Komorebi.
My attacks became erratic and unpredictable, designed to blind him like sunlight flickering rapidly through the leaves of a dense forest.
I watched his guard falter, his arms trembling as he struggled to read the chaotic trajectory of my strikes.
Finally, I brought it all together with Shinko.
Leaping high into the air, I brought my sword down in a devastating, heavy cleave meant to split him completely in two.
The boy barely managed to parry the blow, but the sheer kinetic force of it forced him to his knees.
His arms shook wildly under the intense pressure, his defense crumbling before my eyes.
But I didn't stop there.
I seamlessly chained the movements together, repeating the katas in an overwhelming, endless barrage of offense.
Shoyo. Komorebi. Shinko. Over and over again, locking him in a tempest of steel.
I gave him absolutely no room to breathe, let alone find a fraction of a second to launch a counterattack.
That was when the crystalline armoured beast stepped into the fray.
His loyal summon threw himself directly into my path, acting as a living shield to take my ferocious attacks head-on.
Sparks flew wildly into the air as my katana clashed violently against Kuro's reinforced defences.
"Hold steady, Kuro!" the Lad yelled, using the momentary reprieve to scramble back to his feet and regain his breath.
The beast held his ground like an immovable fortress.
Despite the terrifying speed of my attacks, the summon refused to take a single step backward, absorbing the brunt of my wrath.
My relentless assault showed no signs of slowing down.
I was a machine, my stamina seemingly limitless as I rained blow after blow upon the creature's thick hide.
But I was not a mindless berserker.
I recognized immediately that this summon was far too sturdy to break quickly.
Abruptly halting my endless barrage, shifting gears in a heartbeat.
Pivoting with unnatural grace, I slipped entirely out of the beast's field of vision, circling right behind his massive bulk.
My target wasn't the beast anymore; my murderous intent was locked entirely onto the boy.
Kuro sensed the immediate shift in my bloodlust and hastily turned to intercept the attack.
It was exactly what I wanted.
As the beast's defense opened up for a fatal split second, I lunged forward with devastating force.
I drove my blade straight into the summons's gut.
With a sickening, metallic screech, I violently dragged the sword horizontally across his abdomen.
Kuro let out a hollow, agonizing sound before his form destabilized entirely.
The massive creature vanished, desummoning back to his realm in a massive cloud of white smoke.
[ *POOF* ]
"Now it's just you and me," I sneered, stepping confidently through the dissipating smoke with my bloodied sword.
The Lad didn't give me the satisfaction of a reply.
Instead, he hurled a smoke bomb directly at my feet.
It erupted instantly into a thick, blinding grey cloud that swallowed me entirely, robbing me of my vision.
Simultaneously, a deafening explosion ripped through the air as he threw a roll of paper bomb onto the dirt floor nearby.
Boom!
The shockwave and noise created a chaotic distraction, forcing me to raise my guard blindly against the flash.
As the smoke slowly parted, I saw that the boy was no longer alone.
A massive, sleek cheetah had materialized beside him, it's fur as dark as the night, parts of its body coated with crystalline armour, giving it an ironic colour contrast. A razor-sharp long sword clenched tightly in its jaws.
Together, the feline beast and the Nara leaped directly into the fray, launching a synchronized, high-speed assault against me.
Taken aback by the sudden appearance of the armed beast, I was forced entirely on the defensive.
I quickly raised my blade to parry their combined, overwhelming strikes.
The cheetah was incredibly fast, its feline agility allowing it to attack from impossible, erratic angles.
Meanwhile, the Leaf shinobi pressed the offensive from the front, pushing me back step by step.
But my reflexes held strong, honed through years of life-or-death battles.
I suddenly ducked under the cheetah's wide, sweeping swing, utilizing the momentum to spin rapidly.
With a vicious strike, I shattered the boy's guard using the heavy pommel of my sword.
Overwhelmed by the sheer force of my counterattack, the boy stumbled backward, completely exposed.
I didn't hesitate for a fraction of a second.
I lunged forward, stabbing my blade deeply into his chest, right beside a loose, unremarkable roofing tile on the ground.
He coughed violently, collapsing onto the dirt as a sickening thud echoed through the courtyard.
I smirked in triumph, yanking my blade free from his chest.
But instead of a spray of blood, the boy I had just struck vanished into thin air with a..
[ *POOF* ]
I froze, my eyes widening in absolute shock.
"A clone?!"
I tried to step back, to create distance and reassess the battlefield, but my muscles locked rigidly in place.
My body utterly refused to obey my commands.
[ SHOHEI NARA ]
A few inches away from the paralyzed swordsman, the unremarkable roofing tile shimmered.
The transformation jutsu broke, reverting my disguise back into my true form.
I rose slowly from the roof, my hands locked firmly together in the Rat seal.
'I had him.'
The sequence had played out exactly as I envisioned in my mind just moments before.
When the paper bomb exploded earlier, the blinding flash and deafening noise perfectly masked my rapid movements.
It gave me the split second I needed to summon Hayate, manifest a shadow clone, and transform my actual body into the discarded roofing tile on the ground.
All I had to do was wait for my clone to bait Takezo directly over my cast shadow.
Now, he was firmly trapped in my shadow paralysis jutsu, completely unable to move a single muscle.
"What did you do to me?!" Takezo roared, his veins bulging as he strained against the invisible bindings.
I maintained my absolute silence, keeping my focus entirely on holding the jutsu.
There was no way I was going to explain the intricate mechanics of my shadow possession to him and risk his monstrous intellect finding a way out.
Hayate didn't waste the perfect opening I had created for us.
The cheetah darted forward, a terrifying blur of spotted fur and flashing steel. With a swift, merciless strike, Hayate's blade bit deeply into Takezo's exposed wrists.
Takezo's hands spasmed violently, his grip on his katana instantly faltering as blood sprayed into the air.
Without losing a single ounce of momentum, my summon spun low to the ground. Hayate's blade flashed again, ripping a brutal, horizontal gash straight across Takezo's abdomen.
Takezo let out a gut-wrenching howl of sheer agony. The disruption caused my shadow paralysis jutsu to violently snap, freeing him from my invisible hold.
But he was far from defeated; fuelled by the sheer desperation of a cornered beast, Takezo clamped a bleeding hand over his stomach. At the same time, his jaws snapped shut with a sickening crunch.
Hssssss!
A highly pressurized, sickly purple fume violently erupted from a crushed hollow molar in his mouth. In a fraction of a second, the thick, acrid gas flooded the immediate radius, hissing as it ate away at the dirt.
"Hayate, fall back! It's toxic!" I yelled, instinctively leaping away and covering my mouth with my sleeve.
My summon darted backward, coughing as the blinding smog swallowed the wounded swordsman entirely. We were forced to wait, listening to the heavy, frantic pounding of boots as Takezo sprinted away from the cloud.
As the night breeze finally thinned the toxic smog, I lowered my sleeve.
The roof was empty, and I had a guess to where he was going next.
'The gala!'
...
I was right.
Takezo had vanished completely into the dark, opulent corridors of the gala building.
The only proof he had ever been in the corridor was his discarded katana and a thick, heavy trail of blood leading into the shadows.
"Damn it," I cursed aloud, dropping my hands and catching my breath.
I looked at the dark doorway, knowing the danger was far from over. A wounded animal was always the most dangerous.
"Let's go, Hayate. We can't let him get away."
