Chapter 11 - Whispers of Elforia

The journey to Elforia was long and arduous, with landscapes shifting from barren plains to dense forests. Days passed as Rheus and Luisa traveled mostly in silence, each lost in thoughts about their confrontation at the shattered fortress. The encounter with the cloaked figure and the clues about the Lost Kingdom weighed heavily on them.

As they neared Elforia, the forest thickened, with towering trees casting shadows over the narrow path. The village was almost hidden, nestled deep within the woods—a sanctuary of scholars and historians, known for its ancient libraries and forgotten knowledge. Rheus had only heard rumors of this place, but it seemed like the answers they sought might be here.

"This is it," Rheus muttered as they approached a winding path leading to the village. The sun hung low, painting the sky in shades of orange and red, casting long shadows. "Elforia. Let's hope we find what we need."

Luisa surveyed the village warily. "It looks peaceful, but I doubt we'll go unnoticed. Outsiders asking about the Lost Kingdom will definitely raise some eyebrows."

The heart of the village was dominated by a grand library, its towering structure glowing faintly from within, lit by the warm glow of candles. As they approached, a sense of awe overcame Rheus. This was a place of knowledge, and perhaps somewhere within its walls lay the answers to the Lost Kingdom's mysteries.

Just as they neared the entrance, an elderly man in flowing robes emerged from the shadows, his sharp eyes studying them carefully.

"Travelers," the old man greeted, his voice calm but curious. "What brings you to Elforia? Seeking knowledge, no doubt."

Rheus hesitated, not sure how much to reveal. He chose his words carefully. "We're looking for information on the Lost Kingdom," he said. "We've stumbled upon things that don't make sense, and we believe this village may hold the answers."

At the mention of the Lost Kingdom, the old man's expression darkened. He remained silent for a moment, then nodded slowly. "Come with me. If it's knowledge of the past you seek, you may find it here. But be warned—some things are hidden for a reason."

They followed the old man into the library, where the scent of aged books and parchment filled the air. The inside was even more magnificent than Rheus had imagined. Shelves of ancient tomes stretched to the ceiling, and scholars moved quietly between the rows, absorbed in their studies.

The old man led them to a secluded section, where the air seemed denser with history. "These are the records of the Lost Kingdom," he said softly, pointing to a table stacked with dust-covered books. "The kingdom vanished long ago, consumed by dark forces."

"Dark forces?" Rheus repeated, his fingers brushing the ancient texts. "We encountered someone wielding dark magic. They seemed determined to stop us from learning anything."

The old man's expression tightened. "Then you've crossed paths with those who guard the kingdom's secrets. Pandemonium, a shadowy group with unknown goals, has long sought to control or bury the Lost Kingdom's power. If they are after you, it means you possess something—or know something—that threatens their plans."

"Who are they?" Luisa asked, her voice laced with tension. "Why target us?"

The old man hesitated. "Pandemonium's true motives remain a mystery, but they believe the Lost Kingdom's magic is tied to a royal bloodline. Perhaps..." He trailed off, eyeing Rheus thoughtfully.

Rheus's heart raced. Could his family be connected to the Lost Kingdom? It seemed impossible, but ever since he left home, strange events had unfolded. His family name carried weight, but this connection to an ancient kingdom? He had never imagined such a possibility.

"We need to know more," Rheus said firmly. "If there's a connection, we have to understand it. And we need to know why they're after us."

The old man nodded, though his face remained solemn. "I will help you. But be cautious—the deeper you dig, the more dangerous your path will become. The Lost Kingdom's secrets were buried for a reason."

Rheus and Luisa exchanged a glance, determination settling in. They had come too far to turn back now.

"Thank you," Rheus said, rising from his seat. "We'll be careful. But we need the truth."

As they left the library, the weight of their quest felt heavier than ever. Elforia had provided them with a glimpse of the Lost Kingdom's mysteries, but the real challenge was yet to come.
