Chapter 327 - Chapter 327: Lucas Gets Hurt

"Who is she?"

Scarlett Johansson asked curiously as she watched the blonde waitress leave. "She seems to have a grudge against you, Duke."

"A girl I met in New York."

As soon as Duke said this, Scarlett immediately revealed a knowing expression. "Your ex-girlfriend?"

"Scarlett!" Duke looked at her, and Scarlett lowered her head. "Oh, I guessed wrong."

The waitress quickly returned with their coffee. Her professionalism was commendable. Apart from her initial surprise, she demonstrated the attitude expected of a qualified coffeehouse server.

She politely placed the coffee in front of Duke. "Sir, your latte."

"Thank you."

Looking at her slightly chubby face, Duke asked curiously, "Ivanka, how come you're here?"

"I'm a student at Wharton Business School," Ivanka Trump replied.

Duke didn't ask further but gestured to her server attire. Ivanka Trump understood, shrugged, and said, "I'm working to earn my living expenses."

She added, "Anything else? If not, I need to go. My shift is over."

"Hey, Ivanka."

A girl from a billionaire family working to earn her living expenses? Duke couldn't help but feel a bit more positive about her. "Do you have some time? Can we talk? I think there might be a small misunderstanding between us."

Ivanka Trump hesitated for a few seconds before slowly nodding and walking away.

"Duke, who is she?" Scarlett Johansson asked curiously.

"Ivanka Trump."

Seeing Scarlett shake her head in confusion, Duke explained, "Her father is Donald Trump."

"Oh, so she's the daughter of that pretentious billionaire."

Hearing this, Scarlett couldn't help but wonder aloud, "She comes from a wealthy family, so why would she work in a place like this?"

Just as not everyone from a slum becomes a robber or addict, not all wealthy heirs are like Paris Hilton. Even Hilton herself eventually put effort into her career. Some outstanding individuals hone themselves through various methods during their growth.

Scarlett Johansson's curiosity was soon answered after Ivanka Trump sat down next to Duke.

"Since eleventh grade, my father required me to be responsible for part of my living expenses."

She twirled the glass in her hand and took a sip. "After entering Wharton Business School, aside from necessary tuition, I have to cover all my living expenses."

"You're quite similar to Duke," Scarlett Johansson chimed in. "After he turned sixteen, my godmother required him to earn his living expenses too... Oh, my godmother is Duke's mother."

Ivanka Trump turned to Duke, seemingly doubtful. "Really?"

"Really," Duke nodded. The similar experiences eased some of the initial tension between them. He added, "Overall, it wasn't too bad. My family covered my expensive tuition fees. Since high school, I've been the school's quarterback and earned some scholarships."

The private schools he attended, like Mountain High and California Institute of the Arts, were well-respected but outrageously expensive, costing tens of thousands of dollars yearly. This was one of the reasons for the entrenched social classes in North America; the poor often couldn't afford quality education. The so-called educational equality, like freedom, was just empty talk in this land.

"I also have a scholarship."

Seemingly competing with Duke, Ivanka Trump added, "But my expenses are a bit high."

"I understand."

Looking at Ivanka's clothes and handbag, Duke nodded knowingly. "Girls tend to have larger expenditures."

Ivanka Trump didn't explain further and just drank from her glass.

Duke suddenly recalled their conversation from that night and asked, "I remember you mentioned working part-time as a model? The income should be decent, right?"

"Only for a short while."

Lifting her head, Ivanka Trump tucked her golden hair behind her ear and said, "After a few photo shoots for minor magazines, I quit modeling. The modeling world..."

She shook her head. "It's too chaotic and doesn't suit me."

"But it can bring you fame," Duke deliberately asked. "Don't you want to use modeling as a stepping stone to enter the entertainment industry and become a star?"

"Do I need to?"

Though in the tail end of her rebellious phase, her mind was still clear. "I'm not like that Hilton girl who only knows how to spend money. I have no interest in being a star."

Taking a sip of coffee, Duke slowly said, "Few can resist the temptation of fame."

"My goal is business," Ivanka Trump firmly stated. "Not becoming a celebrity."

She smiled confidently. "Although achieving success in business is much harder than becoming a supermodel or star, that's what gives me motivation and makes the effort worthwhile."

That was true. As the daughter of Donald Trump, a mogul in the business world, gaining fame would not be difficult for her.

After chatting for a while, Duke's impression of her improved. Anyone willing to work hard deserves respect. He extended his hand toward Ivanka Trump. "Ivanka, I suppose you don't mind that little misunderstanding, right?"

Ivanka turned her head and lightly shook his hand. "As long as you don't think I'm fat."

Seeing the previously tense atmosphere between the two dissipate, Scarlett Johansson subtly rolled her eyes and muttered to herself, "Another woman falling for his charm."

Suddenly, her phone rang. Scarlett's agent, Mary, answered and then said, "Director Coppola asked us to return to the set."

"Alright, let's go," Scarlett said, finishing her juice and getting up. She waved to Duke. "Goodbye, Duke. Goodbye, Ivanka."

As Scarlett left the café, Ivanka Trump glanced at her watch. "I should go too."

"So soon?" Duke gestured toward the campus outside. "I was hoping you could show me around this famous business school."

Hearing this, Ivanka Trump looked a bit wary. "You didn't come here just for me?"

Duke showed an innocent expression. "My friend, Sofia Coppola, has her crew at a nearby high school. You saw Scarlett earlier. I came here to find my mom's goddaughter."

Ivanka Trump stood up. "Alright, let's go. I'll show you around."

Leaving the café, they walked along a relatively quiet path on campus, passing an old building and heading toward the spacious school plaza.

As they walked and chatted, the misunderstanding between them was soon forgotten.

However, before they had gone far, Duke's phone rang. After taking the call, he gave Ivanka Trump an apologetic smile. "Sorry, but I need to leave now. Something urgent has come up, and I have to rush back to New York."

He extended his hand toward her. "Thank you for being my guide."

"You're welcome."

After bidding farewell to Ivanka Trump, Duke quickly left the campus, got into a waiting car, and headed straight to the airport to catch the nearest flight back to New York.

At New York's JFK Airport, his family's car was already waiting. Once Duke got in, the car swiftly navigated through the crowded streets toward a hospital in the Upper East Side.

As soon as the car stopped at the hospital entrance, Duke got out and walked quickly into the building, where Tina Fey was waiting in the lobby.

"How's the situation?" Duke asked anxiously.

"Follow me."

Tina Fey led the way and explained, "It's not serious. During an event, the fans were too enthusiastic and caused chaos, leading to the accident."

The two moved quickly, heading up to the third floor. Tina Fey continued, "George was just bumped by a fan and fell, resulting in some scrapes."

"That's good."

Reaching the third floor, they entered a room. Duke first saw Liam Neeson and nodded at him before walking to his mother. "Where's George?"

"He just fell asleep," Leah pointed to a chair opposite her. After Duke sat down, she said, "I've already informed George's girlfriend. She's on her way from Los Angeles."

Duke had rushed back from Philadelphia after receiving a call from his mother that George Lucas had been injured.

The cause was simple. Fans were eagerly anticipating Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, set to release this summer. While George Lucas and some cast members were promoting the film, the security personnel proved insufficient, and the overwhelming number of fans caused a commotion. When Lucas was about to get into a car to leave, several overzealous fans rushed toward him, knocking him down.

Given his age, the suddenness of the incident and the force of the impact left George Lucas nearly unconscious. Considering the longstanding relationship between the Lucas and Rosenberg families, Duke felt compelled to come as soon as he could since he wasn't far away.

Fortunately, after examination, George Lucas was only found to have sustained superficial scrapes.

Duke stayed at the hospital until late. After George Lucas woke up, Duke spoke with him briefly. Once his girlfriend arrived from Los Angeles, Duke returned home with his mother.

With this trip back to New York, Duke's vacation officially ended. He prepared to return to New Zealand to work on the post-production of Critical Emergency, tackling the challenge of editing a three-storyline narrative
