I sat up, intending to return the book to the shelf when something caught my eye—a faint light flickering from the window opposite mine. It struck me as odd; ever since I moved into this place, the upstairs neighbors' lights had remained off. So who could it be living right across from me? Our homes were closely knit against each other, separated only by a narrow fence.
Curiosity piqued, I swung my window open, leaning out to inhale the cool night breeze that swept in, perfumed with the scent of blooming flowers and fresh grass. Perhaps the person inside would hear my unspoken invitation and peek their head out as well.
As I rested my chin on my hand, gazing into the enveloping darkness, I spotted a shadowy figure moving behind the curtain. It was unmistakably male, tall, with tousled hair that danced softly in the night air. My breath caught in my throat when he parted the curtains and flung the window open wide, a mischievous expression crossing his face as he caught sight of me.
