Emma was crouched by the plates and hummed softly as she stacked the last of the dishes onto the cart.
The sound of Scott and Gwen's joshing drifted in the background, but her focus was elsewhere.
She brushed her hair back, then exhaled softly.
… buzz! buzz!
Her phone vibrated against the glass table beside her.
Emma glanced at it and frowned slightly.
"Oh… it's uh… Maya."
Her voice came out quieter than intended.
For a moment, she froze, her fingers hovering over the cart.
『Maya…』
The name rolled through her mind like a heavy stone sinking into a lake.
She felt an uneasy knot forming in her chest.
『What do I even tell her right now?』
Emma thought as her lips tightened into a thin line.
She hadn't mentioned Maya once tonight, and honestly, bringing up Scott's ex during a moment like this felt… wrong. This wasn't the time to open that can of worms, especially after she had just made peace with Gwen sharing Scott.
