"Hey," a familiar voice called out, and I looked up. A small smile tugged on my lips as my gaze landed on Marcus, and he smiled back as he pulled the chair before me and sat down.
"Hello, Marcus. You look beautiful as always," I said. He pretended to preen at my words and his actions made me smile wilder.
"Thank you, thank you. And you look as gorgeous as you were the first time I saw you," he responded.
I shook my head indulgently. He was still as flirty as ever.
"So, to what do I owe this pleasure?" he asked as soon as he had settled down.
I shrugged. There was no way I could possibly tell him why I reached out. I would have to come up with something.
Which I should have done before he got here.
"Nothing much, actually. I just…wanted to see you," was my tentative response.
His smile fell away. It did not completely disappear. His expression just…turned a little bit more serious.
