Toby rolled his eyes at Jax and stretched his legs out of the swaddling cloth to ease the numbness. Meanwhile, Pax, walking behind the carriage, glared at his brother with open resentment. His sweat-drenched clothes clung to his body, making the long walk unbearably uncomfortable.
"How far is it to the village?" he asked Caius, who was walking beside him.
"I'm not sure which tribe this is," Caius replied casually. "Marauders in Sandspear usually live in various tribes, but judging by their clothing and accents, they might belong to the Ashfangs or the Gritborns."
"There are more tribes?" Pax asked, surprise evident in his voice.
"Hmm. There are five major tribes in Sandspear and a handful of smaller ones with fewer than fifty people in the far southern region. But don't worry. The ones who caught us aren't from the Stormjackals. At least we won't end up in a stew pot as someone's dinner," Caius said with a grin.
