Chapter 36 - Awaken Obsidia

Both Grimhild and Chroliosa delved deeper into the deep dark hole, traversing through a series of endless nothingness that would only become more nonexistent the further they traveled.

Magic could no longer be used as the deepened nothingness that surrounded them would consume everything; including willpower itself.

The spirit of time continued free falling, staying above her master with an expression of anxiety. She was worried about their whereabouts, feeling an inescapable dread the longer they descended into the bottomless pit.

"This place… it reminds me of the Infinite Abyss." Said Chroliosa. "Just where are we?"

Grimhild, unfazed, carried onwards through the vast nothingness, waiting to reach the bottom very soon.

"That's because it is."

"Huh?"

The Witch of Justice looked behind her to face the time spirit.

"I've learned to tame nothingness itself and transform it into magic. The darkness you see around you is akin to the Infinite Abyss, but even deeper, and more complex."

"That's… impossible?"

"There is nothing that is impossible for me, Chroliosa; as long as I can perceive and analyze something, I'll be able to take control of it."

Oblivion, a realm within the At'ama that contained the Infinite Abyss; an endless nothingness that becomes more extinct the further one delves into its pits. Grimhild has learned to harness its power and even alter its essence.

The infinite Abyss consisted of infinite-valued logic, where an endless series of truth values were present and functional, but such a framework was irrelevant to the might of the witch. She's learned how to draw out this complex nothingness and shape it to her liking.

"If you used a power even more potent than Infinite Abyss, then this Golem must be a force to be reckoned with."

"Mm." Grimhild nodded her head, facing below. "Obisidia could've easily broken out of something as trivial as Oblivion, that's why I modified the nothingness to be more potent, and deadly to her body."

"That's absurd…"

"I've created a monster…" Proclaimed the witch, regretful in her eyes. "She was meant to be a savior, but sentience was one thing I couldn't control."

"You were only doing what was right, master."

Grimhild closed her eyes in penitence, now lowering her head.

"Thank you for your kind words, Chroliosa. I know that all people make mistakes; even someone like me, and it is something I have to live with, but I want to make things right and redeem myself."

Chroliosa smiled at her response before closing her eyes with a chuckle.

"I'm glad to have you as my master, Grimhild, you're doing whatever you can to make the world a better place, and I can't help but admire that."

There was silence as Grimhild continued downwards, remembering her past.

"I've destroyed this world once before, I only wish to restore it to its proper glory. Nothing more or less."

Chroliosa nodded her head.

"Yes, that is why Obsidia is necessary, right?"

"You're close, but that's not entirely the reason for recruiting Obsidia."

The spirit lifted her brows in question.

"Oh? What did I miss?"

"Kyto dislikes me in his party."

"Ah!" Chroliosa widened her eyes as Grimhild's plan immediately clicked with her. "So you're releasing Obsidia to join Kyto and Elizabeth side-by-side?"

"Indubitably."

"Ah… but isn't that risky?"

"Not entirely." Grimhild stopped within the nothingness as Chroliosa bumped into her backside. "I'll have to simply reprogram Obsidia; either by brute force or various other methods."

"This sounds dangerous…" Said the worried spirit.

"It should be fine." Grimhild lifted her staff, pointing it below their feet. "We're at the last layer of the Infinite Abyss. Beyond this point we'll be in the Dungeon I sealed Obsidia inside. Are you ready?"

Chroliosa cringed, visibly worried.

"Maybe if I retained my abilities as the time spirit, I'd be confident, but I'm nothing more than a mortal woman in flesh and blood."

Grimhild chuckled.

"You'll be fine, just stay behind me and I'll protect you. It's my duty as the master after all."

"Uhm… usually it's the other way around, but I don't mind change." She nervously chuckled. "Ahahaha, yeah, change is good!

Grimhild grinned at her evident anxiety, finding it amusing.

"I find it rather comedic that you were more anxious to buck like a chicken than following me into the pits of hell."

Chroliosa balled her fists, frowning.

"That's because I have pride! Of course, I'd be hesitant to do something so absurd! You're just a sadistic master!"

"Kuhuhu…" Grimhild cackled, now drawing a magic circle at the tip of her staff. "Let's get this over with so you can get your physiology back. You've done a good job up till now, and I'm proud of you, Chroliosa."

The time spirit flushed, feeling her cheeks heat up at a rapid pace.

"O-Oh… thank you, master, that means a lot coming from someone as great as you."

"Naturally." Grimhild snickered. "Now then, Elguveria!"

Dark and purple flames shot out from her staff, breaching the last layer of nothingness.

And just like fire, this spell continued to spread upwards, corroding away the previous layers of nothingness until each one was wiped away in finite time.

"Ah… such magic, it's unbelievable!" Chroliosa looked above her, seeing the entrance they came in through. "The entrance is kilometers above us, how is that possible? Didn't we travel through infinite layers of the abyss?"

"You're applying common logic to something that has infinite-valued logic, Chroliosa."

The spirit rapidly blinked, confused by Grimhild's response.

"I'm afraid that my newfound, mortal brain, cannot think of higher logic than my own."

Chroliosa and Grimhild finally made it to the dungeon, landing on its surface. All around them was an empty, white void, as they stood atop formless black water.

"This scenery is peculiar… just what is all of this?" Asked Chroliosa.

"It's Obsidia's domain. Everything you see around you is an unpainted canvas that has yet to be stroked by a brush."

"Can you explain that… in Yggdrasilian please?" (A phrase for 'can you explain that in English please')

Grimhild ambled forward as the time spirit followed suit.

"Obsidia has the power to use any Elohim authority to her liking. She can choose whatever law there is from Asgard, and project it into the Nie'mada, freely controlling it to her will." Grimhild looked above her. "In other words, she can 'paint' over this white void with any law she so desires, and change the scenery into anything she wants. It can be a vast landscape of fire, ice, cities, mountains, or even a replica of the physical world itself."

"No wonder why you sealed her away with the power of the abyss…"

"Indeed."

Chroliosa noticed Grimhild was staring into the white sky, which caught her attention, so she glanced up, noticing a figure hovering in midair.

"Is that…"

"Obsidia? Yes." Said Grimhild, cutting their words short.

"She appears immobile. Are you going to insert the Fusion Core yet?"

"Yes, I will, but first I must enchant its properties."

"Hm?"

"Rivonza." Grimhild tore open a hole in space, pulling out the Fusion Core from her personal storage. "If I want to ensure Obsidia's obedience, there must be modifications to the Fusion Core; that way I'll be in complete control."

Chroliosa nodded her head, "I see." Crossing her arms, she kept her eyes on the inactive Golem. "But are you sure something like this can even work?"

"I doubt it, but it's worth a try."

Chroliosa widened her eyes before huffing a disappointed sigh.

"Well, at least you're honest."

"When am I not?"

All of a sudden, multiple magic circles appeared around the Fusion Core, altering its components and changing its effects. Grimhild rearranged its entire function and even added a shutdown option in case things went haywire.

"Hmm, that should do it."

"Huh? You're done already?"

"If I were you, I'd gain plenty of distance behind me. If something goes wrong, and Obsidia somehow overrides my enchantments, who knows what she'll do? She's unpredictable and even cruel when it comes to combat."

The time spirit was alarmed and wasted no time to gain distance from her master.

"Understood!"

Grimhild cast Flonta to take flight, ascending to the immobile Golem.

Obsidia appeared to be a beautiful, tall woman, with long black hair, a maid outfit, and a white headband. At first glance, you wouldn't think much of her, but there was more to her that meets the eye.

"She's been untouched, good."

She seemed to be locked away in an invisible forcefield, created by Grimhild herself.

The witch lifted her staff, dispelling the barrier before hovering behind their back, finding the insertion for the Fusion Core.

"Now then, it's time for me to bring you back, once and for all, Obsidia." Grimhild slowly slid in the Fusion Core as electricity spiraled out of control, causing third-degree burns to her hand, but she paid no mind. "Return back to life."

She pushed it all the way in as a burst of magical energy shot from the Golem's body, knocking the witch back a few meters.

The golem functioned robotically, slowly regaining consciousness as it moved its limbs and obtained its five senses.

"I'm… alive…."

"Welcome back, Obsidia. It's been a long time, hasn't it?"
