Chapter 128 - Home coming

It was the next day and he still wasn't back.

I was pacing in the living room when the front door opened. My heart jumped into my throat as he stepped inside looking exhausted.

Before I could say a word, he crossed the space between us and wrapped his arms around me, burying his face in my shoulder. I stiffened for a moment before exhaling and hugging him back.

"You're back," I murmured, my voice barely above a whisper.

He nodded against me, his grip tightening. "Yeah."

I pulled away slightly and took his face in my hands, scanning him for any injuries. "Did they treat you well?"

He shook his head with a bitter laugh. "You know how it is. They don't give a damn about justice, just about finding someone to blame."

I clenched my jaw. "I should've made them pay for—"

"Rowan," he interrupted, pressing a hand to my chest. "I don't care about that right now. I just, thank you."

I frowned. "For what?"
