Chapter 99 - Trivia Time

The class was split into two teams, and the game was going to determine which team failed the assignment and which team passed.

Chase was assigned team captain of one team, and Poppy was assigned team captain of the other.

A lot of students couldn't help but laugh at their professor's new hair style, which delayed the trivia game another ten or so minutes.

Once everyone was in their respected groups, they began discussing which questions they should expect.

Chase; however, had his head down, and was focusing on something underneath his desk.

He had used one of the small shards of glass, to do something quite stupid.

With a muffled groan, he began to carve the answers from his cheat sheet onto his forearm.

Now any normal person would have been called crazy, and outcasted for such a thing.

But Chase was technically already an outcast considering he had nearly just been killed by his Social Society teacher, and the fact that he was called a Stray about twenty or more times a day.

After another five minutes, Luke called for the classes attention and Chase had just finished carving the answers on his arm.

Rolling his sleeve up, he wiped a tear from his eye and gave Luke his utmost attention, as if he wasn't going to be blatantly cheating.

"Alright, first question: What year did the Grand Paladin take the throne?"

Chase was going to stand up, but was way too slow compared to The Ivory Princess.

"The year two-thousand, which marked the start of the second generation."

She answered, with an annoying smirk on her face.

Luke nodded, and put five points on the left side of the board.

Michael, who had showed up quite late to class whispered a curse behind Chase.

"Second question: What religion does the House of Voidborn originate from?"

Gideon who Chase had luckily gotten placed on his team, whispered the word "Khaosity" in his ear with several stutters.

This time he was much faster than Poppy, bumping his knee on the desk as he stood.

"Khaosity?"

Luke scowled at him for a moment, and then wrote a plus five on the right side of the board.

Chase heard the usual "Stray" comments from a group of Poppy's friends who had been assigned to the other team.

paying it no mind, he sat back down.

"Next question..."

Luke began to speak, flipping through a paper of random questions.

"What great house fell during the conquest of The Dark Forest."

Both Chase and Poppy stood up immediately, but before she could answer he was able cut her off.

"The House of Envy?"

Luke nodded, and began to write on the board.

"That isn't true..."

Poppy argued.

Chase looked down, lifting his sleeve that affirmed that the correct answer was that of the House of Envy.

She spoke up again.

"Multiple great houses went extinct because of that conquest?"

Luke looked over at Chase for a moment, taking a brief second before finishing writing the number ten. Almost as if he was curious as to what he was going respond with.

"Actually, none of the other houses are considered "Great" houses."

Chase said, a hint of arrogance being hinted at in his tone.

"At the time they were. Are you doubting my intelligence, Stray?"

A couple of her friends giggled, and some of the boys made gasping sounds.

Luke who must have found amusement in the confrontation, had completely ceased his writing and was watching Chase with interest.

Pondering what he was going to say, he shrugged.

"Not necessarily, but do you think a bastard has any right of calling someone a Stray?"

He said quite calmly.

Half of the classroom erupted into audible gasps, while Michael just about fell out of his seat.

Poppy's face turned red, and for a second it looked as if she was going to burst into tears.

Then she just sat back down, ignoring the immature students who had began to get quite riled up.

"That's it, No comeback?"

Luke asked, sounding disappointed by the surrender.

Chase had to bite back a wicked grin, and just turned his attention back toward the board.

Neveah who was sitting to his left glanced down at the blood dripping from his arm, then after a few moments leaned over.

"That's kind of harsh, considering you're using the cheat sheet."

He just shrugged, at the girl's empathy.

"She started it."

After he said it, he realized just how dumb it sounded.

Equan of House Lightning.

Equan was sitting a few seats behind Chase, and reached into his bag.

Pulling out a small paper bag, he began to channel his energy. Which followed with several loud popping noises, gaining him several strange looks from the other students in the classroom.

"What? Can a guy not make some popcorn?"

"No food in class."

Luke grumbled, as he was about to read off the next question.

Equan knew that the clueless teacher wasn't actually going to enforce his rule, so he just hid the bag under the table and waited patiently.

"Next question: What house has ruled the Cinderveil Nation for the last century?"

Once again Chase and Poppy stood up at the same time, this time both giving the either quite amusing death glares.

Equan took a bite of popcorn as the two began to speak at the same time, but the Stray backed off probably intrigued by what she was going to say.

"The House of Nigh-"

Poppy was quickly interrupted by Chase.

"that's Rider's kingdom, Bastard."

"You!"

Poppy yelled, clenching her fists at her sides.

Equan held out his bag of popcorn over to Gabriel, who took a handful gratefully.

The two nodded at each other in amusement, as in front of them: Chase was clearly holding back a smirk.

He wondered what had prompted the Royal and the Stray into such a hateful relationship, but was nonetheless thankful for the free entertainment.

Social Society class was quite boring, considering they never actually did anything. All Professor Luke ever did was just lecture about which houses had rivalries with other houses.

"It's the House of Torment."

Chase said, glancing at Luke.

The professor nodded, and began to scribble another five on the board.

"Luke is such an idiot."

Equan whispered to Gabriel, who was holding back a fair bit of laughter.

"Next question: What house of the Great Trinity was the only one to die out before the start of the second generation?"

In the front of the room, Chase let out a laugh but immediately covered his mouth.

Equan really didn't know any of these answers, he never cared to much about politics anyway.

But he did know the history of the Trinity. There was the House of Orion, which ruled as the head clan for the entirety of the first generation. Then there was the House of Aries, who had taken the throne at the start of the second generation.

And the third, was that of the House of Phoenix, who had been rumored to have died out before the other clans.

However, only a couple of decades ago, a man who bore the phoenix sigil had worn the same jersey that Chase had dawned for the first time since that same man had carried Phoenix to their first championship.

So Equan had to hold back his laughter as well, considering how fast Poppy had stood up.

It was a trick question.

"The House of Phoenix!"

She said, with a smug expression on her face.

"Hah! See stray, I bet you didn't know that one."

Then Chase imitated the sound of an incorrect buzzer.

The Ivory Princess who normally kept her composure, and was actually known for being quite smart compared to a lot of the idiot first years, scowled at the nameless boy for a moment, then turned her gaze to Professor Luke.

Luke shook his head, and just wrote a plus five on the right side of the board.

Poppy looked around in shock, completely at a loss.

Some of her own friends, actually began to laugh at her. Equan had almost felt bad for the white haired princess.

A lot of the people on Chase's team had actually looked toward the other side of room, sharing the same feeling as Equan.

However, the Stray didn't look like he was satisfied yet.

Poppy looked at Luke, with a bit of anger leaking into her voice.

"Surely that's wro-"

"Don't look at him like that, he can't help that the only thing you inherited from your house was the name..."

Chase just with a simple shrug.

Equan's jaw would have dropped to the floor if he wasn't in the middle of chewing a handful of popcorn.

Poppy's friends had burst into laughter, and Luke had raised his eyebrows as if not expecting such a line from Chase.

Granted, I don't think anyone would have expected that from the normally silent outcast of the class.

Poppy squeezed her eyes shut, stood there silently for a moment, and then stormed out of the classroom.

"Hey! That's a detention if you leave."

Luke called out, but it was already too late.

The class was left in an awkward silence, other then the occasional crunches of popcorn.
