Chapter 1 - Another Anne

In a dark basement, a tall, slender thirteen year old girl

with brown skin and messy brown hair was sleeping soundly on a mattress.

All was peaceful...until a door above a staircase opened, spilling in sunlight.

"Anne!...ANNE, WAKE UP!" spoke an elderly male voice.

Anne groaned as she looked up as what was an anthropomorphic frog man.

"h-hop pop?" spoke the human girl, drowsy.

"Up-an-att'em, Anne! I've let ya' sleep fer' long 'nuff!" spoke the cranky Frog.

"There are chores that need gettin' done, and that boy Sprig's done wandered off again!"

This news made Anne leap out of bed. "Sprig went exploring WITHOUT ME!?"

"Ah'Yep." said Hop Pop. "An' I need YOU to go find 'em, and bring him back..

(Exclaiming) SO YA' BOTH CAN GET STARTED ON TH' LIST OF CHORES I HAVE FOR YA' BOTH!"

While Anne was in no rush to get started on whatever work that Hop Pop had for her.

She never-the-less want to find Sprig (if only so they could goof off a bit longer before they had to work.)

"Okay..I'll go look for Sprig." spoke Anne. "Just give me some time to get ready."

The old frog sighed. "Okay..just don't dawdle. Sprig's been gone fer over an Hour now."

As Hop Pop closed the door, and left. Anne proceeded to pack her backpack with her essentials.

There was no need to put on clean clothes...given her school uniform was the ONLY clothing that she had.

So, she packed her fully charged phone, her trusty tennis racket, and some snacks.

Putting on her backpack, Anne climbed up the staircase and opened the attic door.

The interior of the Plantar house was small...but, she had grown use to it by now.

Anne approached the front door, and opened it.

She smiled brightly with her fists planted on her hips,

as she greeted a brand new day in the town of Wartwood Swamp.

"HEY, ANNE!" exclaimed a female voice.

Anne looked over at pink Polliwog wearing a yellow bow in a bucket of water. "Hey, Polly!" greeted Anne.

"Where are you off to in such a hurry?!" asked Polly.

"To find Sprig." answered Anne. "he's wandered off, and Hop Pop wants him back home."

"Oh, Okay.." said Polly. "Good Luck!, and try not to get eaten."

Anne snickered. "I'll keep that in mind, girl..see ya."

"BYE!"

Anne began to run from the Plantar farm, and across a grassy hill towards the woodland.

She had her arms spread out, feeling the wind against her as she ran as fast as her long, skinny legs could take her.

Somehow the human girl was in a good mood. Like today was going to be Great.

In the woods, Anne hopped from one giant mushroom to the next as she ventured over to one of Sprig's usual hangouts.

"Sprig!" called Anne. "SPRIIIIIG!"

Anne ran across a fallen tree that acted as a bridge across a deep gorge. "SPRI-!"

((*KA-KLAAAAAASSHH!*))

Anne suddenly froze in place as she gazed up at the sky.

Despite there not being any clouds, lightning was striking the ground from afar.

..but, Anne recognized this lightning. This BLUE, PINK and GREEN lightning.

It was the very same lightning that transported her, Sasha and Marcy to this world

on that night she could never forget when she first opened that accursed music box.

Anne stared as that lightning danced, triggering memories she had almost forgotten.

And, just as suddenly as she saw it...The Lightning then ceased in a blinding flash of light.

Anne couldn't move, as she was lost in her own thoughts: What did this mean?!

Had the same magic that brought her and her friends here happened again?

Before Anne could process this further...she was tackled to the ground by something.

"OOF!"

"HEY, ANNE!" exclaimed a pink frog wearing a cap.

"SS-Sprig!?" exclaimed Anne, mildly startled.

"DID'JA SEE IT, ANNE!?" exclaimed Sprig. "That was a strange lightning storm! Not a cloud in the sky, either."

Anne quickly got back onto her feet. "Listen, SPRIG. that lightning...It wasn't natural!"

"Well, OBVI." responded the frog boy.

"NO!, I mean I saw that lightning before!" explained Anne.

"I first saw it in my own world, WHEN I FIRST OPENED THAT MUSIC BOX!"

Sprig gasped, but then pondered this for a moment. "sooo...You wanna check it out, Anne?!

Who knows?, we might find you another way back to your own world if we do!"

Anne's face lit up at the prospect of 'another' way back home. "Yeah!, LET'S DO IT!"

"YEAH!" exclaimed Sprig.

(("SPRANNE AGAINST THE WORLD!")) exclaimed both Sprig and Anne in unison.

The pair then ran off in the direction of where the multi-colored lightning struck.

[Later..]

Anne and Sprig were sliding down some slippery tree branches when they heard distant noises.

The pair broke from their intended trail, and inspected some bushes.

"h-hello?" spoke Anne. "Is anyone there?"

The bushes began to rustle. Prompting Anne and Sprig to step back.

Something small, and fast was sprinting through the bushes.

Soon, the rustling stopped...and, all was dead quiet.

"um...m-maybe we should go-"

Suddenly, a single yellow eye gleamed within the bushes. "hi'ya, spriiiiiiig...aaaaaannne..."

"EEP!" exclaimed Anne, as Sprig jumped in her arms.

Something finally steppe dout of the bushes...revealed to be a blue frog girl who looked about Sprig's age.

She had a white, mop-like hair that covered one of her eyes and wore a black burlap dress tied with a rope.

"oh, thank frog, It's only Maddie." said Anne, relieved.

Maddie stared blankly at the two (almost as if she was staring into each of their souls.)

"What are you doing out here, Maddie?" asked Sprig.

Maddie blinked her eye. "collecting sticks." answered the frog girl.

"I can see that.." said Anne, noting quite the bundle Maddie was carrying. "but..Why?"

Maddie darted her eyes nervously. "um...n-no reason."

Anne and Sprig stared as Maddie continued to act shifty

(it didn't help that she started to smile...which just came off as creepy.)

"oh...kaaay." spoke Anne. "So, did you happen to see that rainbow lightning?"

"NO." answered Maddie, quickly. "I d-did NOT see that magic lightning storm

that struck over an hour ago. I am only here collecting sticks for no reason whatsoever."

Maddie's eye twitched.

"uh, Mads?" spoke Anne. "are you okay-"

Suddenly, something very, VERY big burst out from a nearby lake.

The three looked up...and, gasped upon seeing a gigantic python looming over them.

((*HSSSSSSSSSS!*))

"AAH!, G-G-GIANT SNAAAAAAKE!"exclaimed Anne, freaking out.

(("AAAHH!")) screamed Sprig and Maddie (who being frogs, VERY much feared a monster like this.)

Anne, Sprig and Maddie all made a run for it...but despite it's massive size,

the Python was lightning quick, and blocked off all exits with it's colossal body.

The trio had their backs to each other as the Python boxed them in.

"OH, NO, WE'RE TRAPPED!" exclaimed Sprig.

Anne grimaced, not sure how they were going to get out of this one alive.

Maddie however, had more fight in her, and pulled out tied bags of her 'magic powder'.

"COME AND GET ME, YOU OVERGROWN EARTHWORM!" screeched Maddie, who tossed one of her powder bags.

The bag hit the Python square in the eye, spouting fungus over it.

((*SKREEEEEEEE!*)) roared the Python, angrily.

"MADDIE!" exclaimed Anne, stunned. "What are you-!?"

The Python glared at the smaller female frog with it's single good eye.

Maddie stood her ground, and showed no fear: "I'M NOT SCARED OF YOU!" exclaimed Maddie.

"ONE DAY, I'LL OWN THIS SWAMP! AND, YOU WILL BOW BEFORE "MADELINE FLOUR, THE BOG WITCH!"

The Python hissed in response...to which Maddie made a high pitched, croaking sound in response.

Anne's usual brown eyes briefly turned bright blue as she felt a surge of courage.

"oh, yeah! Maddie's got this snake's number!" exclaimed Anne.

Sprig stared in confusion. "she does?"

Maddie tossed another bag of magic powder at the Python. This time, it hit it's snout, closing it's fanged jaws tight.

As the giant snake thrashed around, trying to free itself. Maddie quickly turned, and faced Anne and Sprig "HURRY!, Before it gets free!"

Anne and Sprig nodded as the trio began to climb up the snake's body,

and quickly scaled up a tall tree that it just happened to be pressed against.

The three hit among the branches JUST as the Python snapped the fungus sealing it's jaws apart.

"it..can't see us up here, right?" asked Sprig.

The Python looked up, glaring straight at the three.

"it can totally see us." said Anne, a pale expression on her face.

Maddie reached for more bags of magic powder...only to fumble, and drop them to the ground.

"oh, crap." cursed Maddie, her confidence now gone.

"Oh, CRAP!?" exclaimed Anne. "Crap" does not sound good...CRAP IS ALWAYS BAD!"

((*HSSSSSSSS...*)) The Python leered, looking poised to strike.

Anne's eyes widened, she held her breath as her entire, thirteen year long life flashed before her eyes.

"crap!" muttered Anne, frozen in terror.

With lightning fast reflexes, the Giant Python lunged forward.

Anne screamed, feeling like time was slowing down in that exact moment.

There was then a blinding flash...and, Anne suddenly found herself on the ground with Sprig and Maddie.

All three were a good several feet away from the Giant Python as it only just bit into the branch where they were in just seconds ago.

"what..THE HECK!?" Anne was beyond confused.

((*BOOM!, FOOM!, BOOM!*))

The Python screeched as it was suddenly bombarded with fireballs that appeared to come out of nowhere.

Anne and Sprig looked to Maddie..who shrugged. "Don't look at ME. I'm not doing this!"

"LOOK!" exclaimed Sprig, pointing at the Python. "Someone else is up there!"

Anne looked up, and saw a hooded figure sliding down the snake's back

not unlike how she and Sprig were sliding along the branches just recently.

Anne then gasped as the figure came into better view.

It's height matched her own, and clearly had normal, HUMAN hands.

The hooded figure leapt from the Python's tail, and performed a somersault in mid-air.

The mysterious figure then landed gracefully upon the ground, with a stance not unlike a ninja.

The Python finally recovered, and directed it's attention back to the now party of four.

"oh, no. IT'S STILL COMING!" exclaimed Sprig.

"HEY!" called out Maddie.

Anne and Sprig watched as Maddie threw a broken tree branch to the hooded figure.

they caught it with relative ease, and responded with a visible smile and a thumbs up.

The figure then stepped forward, gripping the tree branch like a staff.

As the Python hissed loudly, the hooded figure spun his staff in a circle.

..a circle that formed a glowing hula-hoop ring of golden-yellow light.

The Python lunged, opening it's fanged jaws wide to swallow it's prey whole.

However, as it did this...a heat beam shot out from the light ring, and straight into the monster's mouth.

((*SKREEEEEEEEEEEE!*)) The python screeched, sounding like it was in agony.

It shook it's head as steam billowed out from it's mouth like fog.

Finally, the Python retreated. returning to the lake from whence it came.

Once it was gone, the hooded figure speared the end of the tree branch into the ground.

Anne and Sprig's jaws hung open, astonished at what they just saw.

Maddie was also amazed, but was more excited than shocked.

"YOU DID IT!" exclaimed Maddie, who hopped over to the figure.

"That was INCREDIBLE! Oh, you HAVE to teach me how to do that!"

The figure finally pulled back his hood...revealing a MALE human

with shaggy, auburn hair, and eyes that were two different colors: One Gold, One Blue.

"HEY!, you're ANOTHER ANNE!" exclaimed Sprig. "But..you look kinda Different."

Anne continued to stare blankly at the other human who she certainly DID NOT know.

"That's because he's a BOY, Sprig." said Maddie. "AND, a Witch like me!"

The boy looked at the girl who was still staring at him.

"So, YOU'RE this 'Anne Boonchuy' person that Maddie spoke of.." spoke the boy,

who then approached Anne with a hand extended. "Hi. My name is Olivier Clawthorne."

Anne didn't respond...she only tipped over backwards, and promptly dropped to the ground.
