Viella woke up to the sound of Marie shaking her awake from her dreamless sleep, her eyes fluttering open as the memories of the hidden dungeon came rushing back in waves. The pain of the cut wound was still present on her chest.
"Where are we?" Viella asked.
"Believe it or not, we're somewhere on the border of the central domain," Marie answered, her figure shrouded in darkness.
Viella pushed herself upright, wincing as the movement pulled at the fresh wound on her chest. The carriage rocked gently beneath them, the only light seeping in from the small window, casting faint streaks of silver across Marie's face.
Viella exhaled slowly. "How did we get here?" she asked, remembering the moments before she completely lost consciousness, the sound of heavy chanting still at the back of her mind.
Marie hesitated. "I don't know, honestly," she admitted. "Someone stepped behind me, and then I just remember going to sleep. When I woke up, I was already here with you."
