Chapter 8 - The Observation

Danilo

What I thought would be a quiet smoke as I contemplated my life choices was nothing but that. Not even five puffs in and the back door at the top of the metallic staircase came flying open followed by a man... rather boy who looked like he was about to burst at the seams.

I had never seen anyone ugly cry worse than Benecio. It was full of sobs and hiccups. I did not even know how the person on the phone he was speaking to even understood a word he said. The Spanish was quick but growing up with Uncle Ronaldo taught me how to be perfectly tuned.

Whoever the boy was, I agreed one hundred and ten percent about his comments about Stephanie. She was a bitch. Not that it was professional of me to admit that as her boss but she irritated me from the first moment I had met her. She was the biggest yes man of them all and even when I made shit suggestions she praised me as if it was the greatest thing on earth.

I was not sure if she had not gotten the memo that I was in fact gay because whatever chance she got to rub on me she did. It felt like I had to wear a shirt printed with the words 'I am gay' just to get her off my back!

To see she was making another person's life a living hell did not make me the least bit happy.

It didn't take a genius to figure out whoever the boy was worked for B&B. Yet he did not look like any staff member we had. Working at a company that dedicated itself to the Cowboy culture you'd expect there at least to be a hint of it in his attire but there was absolutely zero.

He was dressed in beige chinos, black and white vans, a matching black shirt with a gold chain that had a golden cross pendant dangling from it. His skin was a shade lighter to my caramel complexion but perfectly sun kissed that he looked radiant; despite the sobbing.

From his accent it was obvious he was Latino and being in Miami where there was such a huge population of us, I was not surprised. However I could not place my finger on where he was from.

His hair was ink black, with a tapered hairline that suited his 'broccoli' haircut. Each of his curls had a loose spring that slightly flopped on his forehead whenever a breeze passed.

He must have been caught up in his own world to not notice me. I was 6f6 I was pretty hard not to notice. He on the other looked to be around 5ft9 but he still looked like a teenager therefore I figured puberty had not struck yet.

All was swell and well that I almost considered leaving until I heard his complaint about a certain 'Pereira'. My cigarette nearly went down my throat. I was the only Pereira here and I had made quite the commotion today. Was my outburst the reason for Stephanie to shit on his head already more than she normally did.

Pai was not entirely loved by everyone. Actually I grew up seeing Presidents kiss his ass and I did not necessarily crave his power but for you to get to the top you had to be stern. Pa of course had his charms. He had it easy.

The one thing I did not like however was making someone's life a living hell and even if it was second hand I still felt bad.

Eventually when the call ended and he leaned against the wall I could not help but notice how thin he looked. It was evident he was fatigued and I guessed the new deadline I had put out did not make things any better.

His crying had decreased as he looked up to the sky. His light brown eyes looked almost golden as he pouted. His lips were so plump I would have thought they belonged to a woman for a second.

Without a second thought I took one last drag of my cigarette then let out a puff before dropping it to the ground and letting my boot kill it.

A gasp forced me to look up and the once highly animated boy looked like he had seen a ghost.

We stared at each other for a few seconds and I could not help but feel amused. He looked petrified.

"Are you going to kill me?" He stuttered out as he tried to press his body further into the brick wall as if he would disappear.

I snorted, "Are you out of your mind?"

He seemed to be surprised when I spoke. I got that a lot therefore I was not shocked. I looked as Brazilian as you could get yet when I spoke I was straight out of the deep belly of Texas. It was an accent you could not shake off and it always seemed to confuse people much to my dismay.

He blinked rapidly, "What are you doing here? Only employees are allowed back here."

Clearly he did not know who I was either! Had he never heard of Benedito and Bobby Taylor-Pereira. It was pretty hard not to know who their sons were. Fuck I was on a billboard when you entered New York City. My pretty face was on any photo shoot you could get.

"It's a free world," I retorted as I looked to the open alleyway. If that was his attempt at a threat he did a terrible job. I walked past him to the general opening that led up to the street. As I made my way past him I stopped and gave him a grin. "You get really red when you cry."

His face twisted before he looked away, "thank you for the observation."

I let out a laugh and shook my head before I continued on. A good walk around the block would clear my head a lot better than a cigarette.
